Hi everyone! I'm using Monterey on my MBP8,3 with OCLP (I believe it's the latest version) and suddenly today my login stopped working. I haven't changed the password (I checked by restarting the Mac in recovery mode and the password works normally). The problem only occurs with normal login. I tried changing the keyboard layout, etc., but nothing works. Sometimes, after the login failure, the computer freezes... Other times, it shuts down with three error beeps... Maybe this is the end of this machine's life? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would look at the 3 error beeps first...
That's a typical error resulting from memory problems. Try reseating the RAM memory, first with only one stick of RAM. If it boots normally with only one stick installed, move that single stick to the other slot, and try to boot again. If it boots normally in either slot, add the second stick. Make sure both sticks are seated properly.
If you cannot clear the beeps, with both sticks installed, then go back to a single stick. 8GB will still work pretty well.
You may be able to troubleshoot to a single stick that tests bad (or to one slot that seems to always be bad. Try to always watch the sleep LED, does it ever flash 3 times (even if there is no actual beeps, just flashing)? That can still indicate bad RAM.

Used OCLP to get Monterey 12.7.4 on my 2011 MBP, and the Tahoe update springs up, which I'm not bothered about, but can I download the Monterey 12.7.6 that's come up or will it break OCLP, plus it's over 11GB so basically the same as the initial download, but the other one that shows up is Safari is 17.6. What's the rule here, Are either of them safe or will it mess everything up.
