Hi everyone! I'm using Monterey on my MBP8,3 with OCLP (I believe it's the latest version) and suddenly today my login stopped working. I haven't changed the password (I checked by restarting the Mac in recovery mode and the password works normally). The problem only occurs with normal login. I tried changing the keyboard layout, etc., but nothing works. Sometimes, after the login failure, the computer freezes... Other times, it shuts down with three error beeps... Maybe this is the end of this machine's life? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would look at the 3 error beeps first...
That's a typical error resulting from memory problems. Try reseating the RAM memory, first with only one stick of RAM. If it boots normally with only one stick installed, move that single stick to the other slot, and try to boot again. If it boots normally in either slot, add the second stick. Make sure both sticks are seated properly.
If you cannot clear the beeps, with both sticks installed, then go back to a single stick. 8GB will still work pretty well.
You may be able to troubleshoot to a single stick that tests bad (or to one slot that seems to always be bad. Try to always watch the sleep LED, does it ever flash 3 times (even if there is no actual beeps, just flashing)? That can still indicate bad RAM.

Used OCLP to get Monterey 12.7.4 on my 2011 MBP, and the Tahoe update springs up, which I'm not bothered about, but can I download the Monterey 12.7.6 that's come up or will it break OCLP, plus it's over 11GB so basically the same as the initial download, but the other one that shows up is Safari is 17.6. What's the rule here, Are either of them safe or will it mess everything up.

I installed Monterey on my 2009 MacBook Pro in early 25. It was a struggle, but I finally got it done when I installed a solid state hard drive. It has been working fine since then until now I am trying to start up the computer. It gets about a third of the way through the startup boot and just stops. I am traveling with the laptop so I don’t have my desktop to try to figure stuff out any help you can provide would be appreciated.

A new installer for macOS Monterey 12.7.6 (21H1320) is available... Apple has probably updated to correct the expiration of the current certificates in January 2027. However, the build number remains unchanged.
The history of Monterey 12.7.6 is weird.

There's a RC 4 21H1317 with date July 16, 2024.

There was a 21H1319 for awhile but it disappeared? It has files with modification date of July 17, 2024 which I installed in September. 21H1319 is the version I see in the app's Info.plist file. I don't remember if this was labeled 21H1319 in the OCLP or gibMacOS downloads list.

This new one shows a version of 21H1320 and a date July 29, 2024 in the downloads list. I don't see any files modified after July 17, 2024, and in fact, all the files match 21H1319 including the Info.plist file which contains 21H1319. The date is strange because the recent Big Sur 11.7.11 20G1443 has an updated date of Feb, 2, 2026.

Hi @joevt

You are right, it’s strange, I couldn’t believe my eyes, but if we look at the Apple servers, we can only notice this:

As you said, last week Apple released an update of macOS BigSur several years after the retirement, Mr. Macintosh has also written about it.
https://mrmacintosh.com/macos-big-sur-11-7-11-update-released-years-after-retirement/

It would not be the first time that Apple has republished complete installers in order to fix certificate expiration.
This was also the case with macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G65), officially released on 2018-07-09 but on Apple servers we find macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G66) on 2019-10-19 with a slightly different build number.

Mac Pro 5.1 with Sapphire RX580 8Gb

HDMI to DVI connection

I stopped using the HDMI ports for two monitors and switched to the DP ports because of stability issues in Windows Server... I ended up discovering that it's a problem with this card itself.

No updates at all... stuck in 12.7.4 Monterey.

Changed the cables to DP - DVI (previous using HDMI output from the Rx 580) and stayed stable for 3 weeks.

Have some crash's about power management from the CPU (two) and from graphic issues (five) but learned that after restart sometimes the OCLP need to disconnected the monitors cables and put back in... hardware basic stuff.

Don't like mess to much with low profile stuff but after reading some things about EFI Rom and other stuff i can tell you i'm a bit nervous

🙄
