You can upgrade your current system or start from scratch, but always use an usb installer when upgrading to a new version (from Ventura to Sonoma for example)
For « point » upgrades, you can do it OTA

I am running Sonoma on iMac 11,3.
I have a weird problem with my wireless keyboard:
I am able to use my wireless keyboard in Boot Picker, but then not in macOS Sonoma.
When I pair it to macOS Sonoma, I am not able to use it in Boot Picker...
Magic Mouse works in both...

Anyone who can explain or help?

I am now deciding whether to go back to Catalina, the last supported OS on this machine or update to Sonoma 14.2, its currently on 14.1. Could this be causing the problems as it is on the latest OCLP.

Try the NVRAM reset in OCLP. At restart when seeing Open Canopy - the OCLP boot-picker, hit the Space key, move the curser to the far-right and reset from there. 🧐

Just a stupid question:

I have a MacBookPro11,5 (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) with OpenCore-Patcher 1.3.0 running macOS 13.6.3. Since I no longer use this machine, what would be the upgrade path if I want to upgrade to Sonoma? My wife has a profile on this machine, so this is now her's.

1. I remember back when I upgraded to Ventura, doing a Software Update through System Preferences was not recommended. Is that still the case?
2. I just assume I create the macOS Installer in OpenCore-Patcher, I can install directly from the external drive I install Sonoma to and/or complete an Erase and Install?

1. ❗️ *NEVER use Memoji* as User Pic / iCloud User Pic with OCLP
   👉🏻 ATTENTION❗️ iOS 17.1+ your Contact Photo in adress book sync to iCloud and so to your Login pic. 😱
   *** So DON'T use Memoji there either❗️***
2. ❗️ *First install OCLP* (if upgrading i.e. macOS 13 ➡️ 14 ALWAYS❗️"Create macOS Installer")
   OR IF you're on macOS "Sonoma" then first❗️check if there's a NEW version of OCLP and install this *INCLUDING* new "Build and Install Opencore" to you start disk + check/install "Post-Install Root Patch"
3. Now you could use the system updater to get the latest macOS 14.x version – but better is to wait till OCLP developers push out a new OCLP patcher version that includes the corresponding macOS update.😉
4. ❗️ *Install the root patches* – in "secure boot mode" always the best

⚠️⚠️⚠️ 👉🏻Currently, it *seems to be safest to always perform the updates* - not just the upgrade to macOS Sonoma 14.x.x - *using the OCLP USB installer.* ⚠️⚠️⚠️

Noticed some longer delays than usual when doing an OTA atop Beta2 update. Patience.

iMac 13.2 running Sonoma off an SSD in a USB enclosure. Keeps crashing, particularly when I open Word or Powerpoint (not always straight away but within a few minutes, its more stable if I just browse etc. It keeps freezing and won't wake from sleep.

It was running Catalina on the 128GB internal SSD but kept running out of space as the drive was so small. The big internal HDD is broken and I don't want to try and get inside it as screen is glued in. I installed Sonoma using OCLP on the external SSD and I don't know what has caused the instability, whether it is running on a USB SSD or the OCLP patcher. I have done this on my 2011 MacBook Pro with broken GPU and it works pretty well (I am posting from it). Will try reinstall, re-patch etc but this is my wife's computer and she just wants to use it. It could be because I migrated from the internal SSD and Office hasn't installed properly... Just looking for ideas and other's experiences...

I dabble in Sonoma but I greatly see the logic.

I already have a problem with my MBP 2012 Retina. Just hangs. My problem I created, no need for me to bug people here. You guys have too many other serious issues to worry about.

In fact, Apple NEVER supported to run OS from USB drives, though in the past they could run like a charm.

All I can tell you , by my experience, is that OCLP Ventura and Sonoma runs perfect from SATA/ESATA drives in my Mac Pro´s 5,1. From USB, often runs very very badly, with constant hangs. Sometimes, I could´t even install them on an USB drive.

Never observed problems running from a USB SSD on MBP5,2 and MBP11,1 (now 14.3 betas, OCLP 1.4.0n). Using three different USB-to-SATA interfaces.

14.3b3 running fine also here on MBP11,1. Installed OTA over 14.3b2 (which was also installed OTA), OCLP 1.4.0n from 1 Jan.

I waited about 4 hours, same thing. Progress bar at 50% aprox. and didn't move. Tried restarting, no luck

I have the same quad core i5, 16 GB ram, 500 GB SSD with 1.3.0 and 14.2.1 and everything works great. However, I have not tried PP but Word, Exel, photos, Safari, music, maps, etc all work as intended. On 14.2.0 I had to reboot every 4-5 days. On 14.2.1 I haven't rebooted since installing 10-12 days ago.

Been using Apple's BlueTooth KB and Trackpad perfectly on both Metal and non-Metal Macs since OCLP v.0.0.23. Also have two third-party BlueTooth KBs, they too function with OpenCanopy w/o fail. That "wireless" KB may be the culprit, not OpenCore. 🧐
