FYI: Tried 23A339 as a daily driver. Can't recommend it. Despite new ssd and 16gb of ram. Too many processes maxing out the chip in the background. system feels laggy and sluggish overall. There is s CGPDFservice running constantly in the background. Also photos/photoanalysis and music take huge amount of resources. CPU is always maxed out. Maybe this is a specific issue to this machine, however it's no fun at all. Maybe it's time to retire the 9,2.

I'm inclined to agree with you but it is still very early days. I'm confident things will speed up and settle down when Sonoma matures to a 14.5 release as Ventura is now. OCLP 0.6.9 is also still only a nightly build. I'm sure things will improve for us 9,2 owners. Hopefully the 2012 has a few years more service to offer.

I recently OTA updated my 9,2 to the Sonoma RC and it failed miserably. lol I probably did something wrong.
Rendered my machine unbootable. Now back on Ventura. Noticed Mac model and year info is now missing from About this Mac. Weird....oh well....runs great on Ventura regardless.

Now...how to get that model and year info back?

Tried Beta 7 and RC on my Macbook Pro 12.1 (13, Early 2015). Beta 7 was laggy, RC was much smoother. Wait for Sonoma and OCLP 0.6.9 releases to install it for daily use. Ventura runs great on my macbook, Sonoma little worse, but still good. Temperature is higher on 5-10 degree, but can live with that. But Ventura is really cold and smooth as for Macbook that doesn't support anymore. Even better than officially supported Monterey. Hope Sonoma in 1-2 updates will be like Venture, or not much worth. Now came back to latest Ventura

Comparing Mini7,1 unsupp to Mini8,1 fully-supported performance running RC and OCLP069n, Aug. 23 build, finding any differences is difficult, at best. Aside from the temporary MTLCompilerSevice crash when launching the Weather app which resembles an old OCLP issue.

Here on the Air 2012, 4GB RAM, SSD m2 1TB WD, it has been working very well, very similar to macOS Ventura 13.5.2 that was previously available, I chose to do an upgrade and not a clean installation, since we don't have the compiled file yet of 14.0 RC (probably on Monday or Tuesday).

I didn't have any problems with the applications I use daily:

For basic use, which is my case, it is working relatively well, I have nothing to complain about the performance, since everyone knows the Air should not be used for tasks that require a lot of resources, that was never the purpose of these devices.

Early 2015 11-inch MacBook Air spec'd 2.2 GHz Dual Core i7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Samsung 970 EVO 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD.

After upgrading my Air to the 1TB SSD, I did a fresh format and clean install of MacOS 14 Sonoma Developer Beta 7 (23A5337a). This is the laptop I have been using with each new OS. Due to lower memory the performance takes some hit but it is still adequate enough that the very slight lag does not bother me.

I can take this laptop as is to surf the Internet or stream videos

Since this post I have since upgraded my MacBook Air to Sonoma Release Candidate 2 (23A344).

Hello to all,

I had no unexpected issues while installing Sonoma-Betas through version 7, however, after successfully installing Sonoma RC OTA on both machines (RC downloaded directly from Apple), patching process fails on both computers with following message - see attached screen shot.

I can boot Monterey on iMac 13,2 or Ventura in MacBook Pro, 5,2 and everything functions well (including graphic acceleration on the MacBook Pro), but, when running the Sonoma branch patcher 0.6.9 ( from September 13th), both machines fail with the same error. Tried other version of patchers, on applicable machines, and all produce the same error. Seems I have some cleaning to do. I will wait for downloadable Sonoma-RC installer and try to install from a USB thumb drive.

MBP6,2 running Sonoma 23A339 with OCLP 0.6.9 Sonoma-Development 09.13.23 is outstanding. As has been the case since OCLP was released, our experience with OCLP depends largely on the Mac Model. While Ventura 13.5.2 is still my main OS, switching to Sonoma (when I do) will be a pleasure.

EDIT: For those who use Hackintool, I see that Hackintool 3.9.8 now works perfectly in Sonoma 14.0 RC1 patched with OCLP 0.6.9 Sonoma-development 09.13.23. Prior to RC1 on my MBP6,2, hackintool would not properly display loaded kexts and USB port mapping in Sonoma. For me, this is another indicator that Sonoma/OCLP is ready for prime time.

My configuration is as follows:

• MBP6,2 (non-metal Nvidia Tesla)
• Sonoma 14.0 (23A339)
• Open Core Legacy Patcher 0.6.9 Sonoma-development 09.13.23
• Open Core 0.9.5
• AMFI and Library Validation fully enabled (AMFIPass.kext 1.3.1)

Exact same issue with my iMac 10,1. After the install and set up completed, Bluetooth was working fine, but after first and subsequent reboots I have same issue you have reported.
I’ve tried reverting and re patching but no luck. Only thing left to try is to install again.

I'm really looking forward to moving my rMBP10,1 to Sonoma. I like it on the supported Mini, but will wait until Sonoma and OCLP 6.9 are released. I've stayed away from installing beta-anything on the rMBP10,1 mainly because the graphics on it are far superior to what the Mini produces and it would be a bad day if it stops working.

I did an OTA update on my MBP11,2 from Ventura 13.5.2 to Sonoma RC + OCLP 0.69Nightly. I had a lot of issues with Finder and Safari (freezes, unresponsive screen, etc.).

Then, I decided to create a new volume and did a fresh install on it. So far so good. I still did not (and will not) migrate all the apps I had in the previous volume because many of them I don't use anymore (but some of their services were still running on the background...) I will install an app just when I need it and after a while, will delete the old volume.

Looking forward for the release of Sonoma and OCLP 0.6.9.

I don't switch to a new version of macOS as my "production" macOS until Apple requires the macOS upgrade for Xcode (e.g., I won't switch from Ventura to Sonoma until the new Xcode requires Sonoma). Historically, Apple doesn't require a new macOS for Xcode until version x.4 or x.5 of the new macOS. The fact that Sonoma already runs so well is encouraging. I don't expect to abandon Ventura and switch to Sonoma until 2024.

Your are right about Xcode. I have an issue with Xcode 15 in Sonoma, there are projects failing to debug with the "rpc server crashes" message. There are projects debugging ok. It's an issue I have read in some places over Internet, here in MR or even in Apple communities.

URGENT: If you are having problems with freezes and crashes using OCLP 0.6.9n and macOS Sonoma 14.0 RC, remove the IntelPowerManagement kexts from EFI/OC/kexts and config.plist

They are what are causing this problem, including hibernation, and the system itself already manages all of this well, it already has these kexts natively.

If you don't want to have freezing problems and want hibernation to work correctly, remove these kexts.

They have problems from Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura and now Sonoma.

And I have no problems with freezes and crashes using OCLP 0.6.9n and macOS Sonoma 14.0 RC.

That's why I informed anyone who is having problems, as they were installed on my hardware since OCLP 0.6.7 and extended to OCLP 0.6.8 and OCLP 0.6.9n; Every time I removed them, the system started to behave correctly, without problems with crashes, freezes or random restarts when returning from deep sleep. Today everything works correctly without these extra kexts in EFI.

Are you talking about these two kexts? Still installed by OCLP AFAIK.

That must be dependent on the hardware and/or the OCLP version. As posted above, I don't have those kexts after a Sonoma RC & Sonoma branch OCLP 0.6.9n install on an iMac 15,1.

I tried just running the OTA upgrade from Ventura to Sonoma RC on my MacBookPro11,1 - OCLP 0.6.8 installed.

The upgrade finished and I can log into Sonoma, but the graphics are super slow and Wi-Fi doesn’t work. As usual I go to the post-install menu to do the root patching, but OCLP says it is an unknown (or unsupported) OS and won’t let me…

What can I do?

Thanks for the reminder…. I already jumped though, and screwed up my MBP. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, and I will just wait for the official OCLP 0.6.9. Right now I keep getting unsupported OS when I try and patch root.

Thanks Webg3, this is good for my 3rd party SSD drive NVMefix.kext already added, it helps battery drain, Universal control works too. Thanks Devs.
