Well, Silent Knight has given it's blessing that my setup is functioning as it should, and everything is normal. I'm no longer going to use OCLP. After re-evaluating my needs. I don't need it. Everything I use works on a supported install. I used Mist to create an ISO of Sonoma, and Ventura to put in VM(s), for the few things might need a newer version for eventually. It's been an interesting learning experience, but to be honest, I think my setup tends to be too specific to fit into this community anymore and instead of frustrating myself, and everyone else, I'm going to just use what works regardless of what other people say, or try to fit into a community, when it's not me.

you gave an an idea, after "post-install Patch" I execute revert back install, and then again execute post-install pacth. That brought back wallpaper and grapnic acceleration. Everything is back to normal.
Thanks it worked.
Hello, I have the same problem, sometime I have to execute post-instal patch on my Imac 2012.

Hello, on an 2011 iMac, after a Sequoia update, A friend lost the keyboard and the mouse. Do you have any idea how to fix it without reinstalling Sequoia?

Apple or third-party bluetooth keyboard and mouse? Apple or third-party USB keyboard and mouse? Are they using something like Logitech Unify Receiver which is 2.4GHz wireless? Details matter.

My system is finished. I have my two VMs set up as well. One for Sonoma, and one for Ventura. After turning on reduce motion in both, things run very smooth.
Which of your systems - MacBookPro11,1 or iMac17,1 - did you use? Did you install the latest macOS 15.7.2 Sequoia with OCLP 2.4.1 and VMware Fusion 24H2 (24995814)? Can you enable 3D support in VMware Fusion with your setup?

The latest VMware Fusion 24H2 doesn't start any Windows-VMs (only black screen) on my MBP10,1 with macOS 15.7.2 and OCLP 2.4.1 - only VMware Fusion 13.6.4 is able to boot Windows-VMs and there is no working 3D support at all...

Any positive reports on this? There are some rumors that OpenGL support was removed in VMware Fusion 25H2 and Metal support is not possible with patched drivers...

I quit using OCLP, I'm running Monterey as the host on the iMac 17,1. The MBP really isn't worth using anymore. The VMs are in Fusion 13.5.2. I need a 100% supported system instead of the OCLP guess work, and since all my daily tasks work in Monterey. Fusion with the right settings is good enough for the few things I'd risk installing OCLP for. I decided to go that route to make sure everything works when I need it. I've been back and forth over a couple years between OCLP, and Monterey on this iMac, and I've decided to stay here. As an alternative, I have Linux installed on an external drive. FWWIW: I also have programs that I still use that are happier on Monterey or older due to lack of updates, and changes Apple has made in macOS (not OCLP related.). Ventura would be usable (as the host), if it was a supported OS, so Monterey it is, or Linux until I get a new computer. The two VMs will help some as well.

Mouse X on Imac usb and apple keyboard on iMac usb, just before the update (I thing 15.7.2) everything was correct with Sequoia 15.7.x . I am sur to save this instal of Sequoia if I execute the post install but without keyboard I don't found a solution. It is a good exercice .... Perhaps if I use an USB hub ...

Since I'm strictly using OCLP for recording, and nothing else.

The investment, and alongside OCLP, continues to deliver.

Well, since a majority of stuff I do uses the GPU in some form, that's the one area OCLP can't be guaranteed (on this particular mac.) because of the nature of the process of patching. Since I have a better idea of what I need now, it's much easier to stick with the supported install for the baseline stuff, and either run the other stuff in a VM, which is also supported, and doesn't require the GPU, or use Linux instead, if what I want to do is genuinely served better in Linux over macOS.

Plus, because the iMac is my only usable computer right now, there is the issue of EULA and support. Apple might not offer security patches for Monterey anymore. However, it's still an officially supported version of macOS for this mac, so I feel better about reaching out to the developers of any software I may need help withe vs relying on a community of non professionals. If I wanted community support, I'd use Linux completely. With a Mac, I expect better.

So, Everything is as it should be now. Here is why I decided to go back to Monterey, even though Sequoia was running OK.
Mainly for better legacy support. I have a 2.5G USB Ethernet adapter that doesn't work correctly under Sequoia as Apple removed the drives from questions I had asked about a while back here. So, instead of playing a cat and mouse game, It's easier just to pick what works and stay there until forced to get a new Mac. The other thing is, the desktop Facebook Messenger app is being discontinued in December, so I'll no longer need a newer version of macOS to run it without glitching.

I have a confession to make, I'm the type of person who loads apps on the computer thinking I'll use them at some point, and usually never do. So eliminating a lot of those apps, everything that matters, is still supported by Monterey, and slightly older.
I have my Mac Pro 5,1 setup as a dual-boot... Sequoia or Monterey...using OCLP of course.

Monterey was the last "really good" version of MacOS for that platform...meaning everything "worked as it should", with OCLP.

Sequoia with the latest OCLP works too, for the most part, but there are some "gaps". That' why I still keep Monterey around on a second hard drive.

3D Support won’t work I believe , I asked the black screen question and makj answered, As a temporary workaround you may go to the VM Advanced settings and set troubleshooting to hang/crash will boot then . I also have a boot camp partition of windows 11 which is probably the only way for 3d support using windiskwriter of GitHub to make the install.

I did the dual boot thing for a while, and it caused issues going between which have been discussed earlier in the thread. So, since Monterey is natively supported on this iMac, and I have the RAM and the disk space to accommodate VMs, and nothing I need one for is anything intense, and the only reason I would install an unsupported newer OS, I decided to go this route. It saves on reboot, and the two versions can run together. With all hardware working as it should, as well as all software that I use.

FYI there's another Sequoia 15.7.3 build 24G419 available. RC4 or final I suppose.
Downloading now, more later.

[edits, later]

  • The OTA delta update size on a MacMini8,1 2018 (supported) running RC3 is 1.22 GB:
    • No issues installing using the standard OTA update workflow
    • Smoke testing indicates running fine on this release
  • rMBP10,1 2012 (unsupported) using the OTA workflow was slightly more problematic:
    • In System Settings selected 'update tonight'
    • The download and prep stages completed normally
    • Gave it plenty of free idle time to do whatever in the background, then selected 'Restart now'
    • It did not restart after an hour or two
    • Used SilentKnight to find, download and apply the update
    • SilentKnight immediately triggered a successful reboot, crossed my fingers...
    • After first log in macOS came up OK and OCLP auto-prompted to reinstall root patches and reboot
    • Came up successfully with full graphic acceleration and correct resolution
    • Smoke testing AOK, but still need to run some more apps and check the logs
    • Good luck! Seems pretty good to me.

One quirky issue I noticed on my unsupported machine is that with this 24G419 update, my desktop icons are hidden. When I hold a file move onto the desktop it briefly appears but as soon as I complete the action, the file disappears from view. If I open the folder view of my desktop, all icons/files are there. This could be something in my settings but reviewing Finder settings did not pan out success. I was curious if anyone else noticed this behavior on this version.

Reboot in safe mode. Empty caches. Perhaps create a new snapshot by creating a new building a new OC. Other user same issue?

Thanks but turned out to be Stage Manager setting on my machine. I inadvertently unticked "Show Items" under "Desktop & Stage Manager" when trying to disable the fanning out option with Stage Manager when Cmd+Tab trying to flip through apps.

System installed update 15.7.2. After second reboot it stalls at something like "Starting threadpool" and some words about encryption. MacPro5.1. Anyone got similar behavior?
Looks like encryption is active and gives the hiccups:

Restart. Hold alt. Choose different efi and/or startup volume if available.

Boot from a Time Machine backup and restore to 15.7.1 or 15.6.x

Turn off encryption whenever possible.

Never touched encryption in Sequoia at all. How can I check about encryption from Sequoia installer (planning to build a fresh one)?
If you are talking about FileVault, it is a choice during a standard install so you can switch it off at that time.
It can also be switched off in Privacy & Security settings if you can boot or safe boot and get access to settings.

Apple has tended to make some things like FileVault and automatic updates default during an OS update, so good for OCLP users to pay attention to things like that when updating FWIW.

Why is this happening suddenly?

Why is it saying kWiFiLocWPASecurityTitle?! My house had a problem with Wi-Fi today so we had to get it sorted. Could that be the problem?

It's trying to tell you that you're using an insecure version of WPA (v1) but due to the WiFi patches (I think?) there's a bug with localization strings. Configure your router to use WPA2 or newer to get rid of it.

Here's the proper dialog of what it's trying to tell you:

weak security (WPA) - Apple Community
