Is there still an issue in Sequoia with 2015 MBP 15" with HDCP playback content on external monitor? Can anyone test that on 15.7.5-6? I have the AMD Radeon R9 M370X and Intel Iris built in. Last time I tried Sequoia back a while after it was launched, I couldn't play my Apple purchased movies or Comcast or other HDCP content streaming on external monitor. I went back to Monterey as a result.

I tested on an iMac 2015 4k with a cheap AOC 1080p exernal monitor (HDCP compliant), running OS 15.7.5.

On Safari 26.4 could not play HBO Max nor Disney Plus. On Chrome and Firefox it worked but no HD.

Apple TV and Prime Video both worked at 4k since they both have native apps. Also tested old iTunes purchases inside TV app and works fine.

Disconnecting the external monitor didn't make any difference, same results.

edit: Same results as well for a 15 MBP 2012 wih Apple Thunderbolt Display, running Sonoma 14.8.5.

Thanks for the info, but yeah, that's not a mid 2015 15" MBP. That's what I was looking for. I think it's the AMD Radeon R9 M370X that's the issue. There's something about the driver and HDCP support in anything above Monterey, last supported OS.

Hey. I am having a problem where Disk Utility asks for password (5x) on launch, every single time. I just hit cancel now (used to type password) and it then is ready for use without any problems. Sometimes, going to Settings/General/Startup Disk triggers the same sequence. Sometimes not. I am not and never have used FileVault and I have 2xpcie SSDs, 2 SATA ssds and 3 HDDs in the macpro. No particular drive is ever mentioned.

I am a bit wary of deleteing keychain items as that might cause a whole host of issues I am not ready for!

Any ideas? Its mainly a PITA and not a show stopper but I would like to stop it.

TIA

Open Console.app, filter by process. Disk Utility or search diskarbitrationd or disenter, then launch Disk Utility and watch what fires. This tells you whether it's the privilege helper, a drive-specific mount request, or something else entirely. No risk at all.

To permanently eliminate the incessant Tahoe nagging, install the Tanoe script by Dr.Donk, an r/OCLP member:

it blocks the Apple update server in etc/hosts file and is easily reversible

(also, while leaving it active, one can update Sequoia via CLI in any case)

Works great and is highly recommended!

https://github.com/DrDonk/Tanoe
I can't see the DrDonk method being of any use other than stopping the Badge appearing and the odd notification; better than nothing - but the main aim is to get a badge reminder when there is a relevant minor update - which the DrDonk guide clearly advises won't happen.

Have tried the Sequoia Beta route and it's survived a couple of restarts ie no badge for 15.7.6 but it's only been a couple of days; have never seen any reports of how long it's likely to last; most reports seem to be from "enthusiasts" who seem happy to do a 17GB update for every Beta/RC version of each minor update.

Sequoia 15.7.6 is an RC and on my MBA M2, with Software Update set to get Developer Betas, that update was a 4.4GB download, not the full installer, which evidently isn't available yet.
See post #3 on the thread below, for a good method to get rid of the Tahoe nagging, and with the public Beta setting, it should prompt for the 15.7.n updates.

I just tested my Apple TV movies and shows on an external monitor (with 2015 MBP 15", AMD R9 M370X) over HDMI on macOS 15.7.5 and it worked fine.

OCLP on unsupported Macs will always require full installers for updates because OCLP changes SIP settings and breaks SSV.

if you revert patches I updated to 15.7.6 it was 737 mb on my mid 2014 MacBook Pro no issues then repatch using OCLP 2.4.1 using a usb wireless adapter.

REALLY!! Wow that's great! Maybe I'll go ahead and try and update this thing...again.. I did go ahead and make an OCLP Sequoia boot disk. I'll do one final backup and give it a whirl. Hope the issue wasn't my monitor the whole time.. I tried HDMI and HDMItoDVI way back. Neither worked. Thanks!

You should be able to test it with an external drive like I did if you want to be extra careful.

You can test it on a television as well - then you'll know if it's the monitor that's the problem instead of the Mac.

Well, I tried to boot off the stick I made. Selected the EFI partition and then the Install Sequoia item. Presented me with a circle with slash thru it. Couldn't get past that. I redid the stick from scratch. Same thing. Not sure what's going on. I don't recall having this issue before..

Have you tried resetting NVRAM?

Well, the issue still exists with OCLP/15.7.5 and HDCP playback.. With an external HDMI monitor attached, I cannot view video of my Apple purchased movies. I only hear the audio. I can unplug the external monitor and the video appears on the built in.. Same issue from the beginning with this thing with Sonoma. This is so disappointing. Well, I guess I go back to Monterey again..

It might be the monitor doesn't support HDCP passthrough properly - have you ever tried using a different cable?

My Apple-purchased movies and shows worked through an HDMI-DVI cable with sound.

Yeah I've tried cables and different monitor, all that work fine under Monterey.. I went thru all this last year when I tried this before. I was hoping the issue would be fixed by now. It all works fine under Monterey. Anything above that does not.

Thanks.

So I did that and launched DiskUtility with diskarbitrationd as filter. I got 5 of these lines after 5 x click on Cancel buttton of the permission request dialog:

Code:
Succeeded authorizing right 'system.volume.internal.mount' by client '/usr/libexec/diskarbitrationd' [127] for authorization created by '/usr/libexec/storagekitd' [220] (2,0) (engine 351338)

The "engine" number was unique in each line. Does that tell us something? I have no idea what that means 😉

I have no external drives connected, just the ones inside the mac (2xpcie ssd, 3x hdd, 2xsata ssd). There are some partitions which have OS installs (three of them bootable my Mojave stand-by). No encryption whatsoever used ever. Nothing changed with the drives since before this issue arose (at some point in the Sequoia versions cycle, I dont know exactly when (15.7.3?) but relatively recent)

I saw this post on apple discussions forum - would anyone know the terminal commands mentioned and which ones might need to be removed. I see they are attached to APFS drives that contain a system (some bootable and some not) via terminal "diskutil list".

Check for drives that are encrypted or at least are being flagged as encrypted. I assume if this is one drive and you cancelled the prompt, this is the one thats not being be mounted.

diskutil apfs list

You could also connect the volumes one by one and check for the prompt appearing.

When you found the drive:

diskutil apfs decryptVolume diskXsY

Interesting conversation happening here where someone asked for the status of the KDK for Sequoia 15.7.5. Since when is a bug report required to prompt the release of a new KDK?

“KDK releases are tied XNU builds, not system releases. We release a KDK for "most" system updates because the kernel was rebuilt in that release but that isn't true of all releases, particularly security updates "later" in the update cycle. In this case, we have released a KDK for 15.6 (24G84), but we will NOT be releasing a KDK for 15.6.2 (24G90) or 15.7 (24G207). That's because those other releases are all using the same kernel as 15.6 (24G84), specifically "xnu 11417.140.69", so you can KDK we read 15.6 (25G84). Note that the command:

<span>uname</span> -v<br>
...will print the XNU build version.”
