Just found out that for non-AVX2 based machines (like cMP3,1 to 5,1 with their Xeons) Safari browsing without frequent crashing and page reloading can be restored by going back to Safari 18.6. Interestingly, the version stated for Sonoma works very well on Sequoia, while newer ones do not.
See DL link here, thanks to the full installer web-listing by Mr. Macintosh.
That's precisely the reason why I use Safari 26.1 for Sequoia 15.7.4 on my Mac Pro 5,1. Use the Mr. Macintosh page to download the relevant installer. You needn't go as far back as 18.6.

sorry if the following questions have already been answered, but I wasn't able to find answers with the search.

Running 15.7.4 and OCLP 2.4.1 with default patches on my mbp and seeing a couple of annoying issues:
  1. unable to make screenshots / open the Screenshot app. Could work that around using 3rd party tool Shottr, but it can only make fullscreen screenshot - region screenshot also doesn't work (I can cut it in Preview manually of course).
  2. Ethernet not working unless I have cord plugged in before booting the mbp, en0 interface is simply missing.
I have also found an older 15.5 install with OCLP 2.4.0 on an external disk that I had been using for initial tests and screenshots work there, even video recording does. But same issue with Ethernet. I also observe that 15.5 is running smoother.

Are there any solutions to the above? My primary interest in running the latest macOS is to get access to the latest Xcode toolchain, right now it requires macOS 15.6+.

… Yes, the new 2.5.0n works as expected. And now I also understand a mistake I made regarding the double password prompt for FileVault: previously, I had said that when building OpenCore with Host Model selected in the OCLP Settings, then there is a double password prompt, one at boot and the other at login; while if the specific model is selected in the Settings, then there is only one password prompt, at boot (as should be): but now I understand why it probably is so… When selecting the specific model in the Settings (in my case, MacBookPro11,3), for some reason Library Validation and AMFI get disabled (I hadn’t realised that before): so this is probably the reason for the different behaviour at boot (and building OpenCore from the specific model with those enabled of course got the double password prompt again, exactly as when building from Host Model). And you definitely don’t want to have Library Validation and AMFI disabled, so I’ll have to live with the double login prompt until this is fixed (strange glitch, BTW, present also after decrypting and encrypting again: the passwords should be in sync, but it looks like they are not)…

Edit: The Microsoft Teams crash at launch was due to inadvertently running with Library Validation and AMFI disabled (see the mistake explained above): now it starts correctly again.

… While the Homebrew bug with the Swift runtime seems to be stably fixed, also in this new 2.5.0 nightly build (very good): with no more warnings about missing cask quarantine support, etc., but only about being a Tier 2 configuration (which is indeed the case, with OCLP’d Macs).

Updated my HackBookPro6,2 (Intel Arrandale CPU, non-metal Nvidia Tesla) to Sequoia 15.7.5 (24G624) and applied post-install patches (Modern Wi-Fi, Nvidia Tesla Graphics) with OCLP 2.5.0n (commit b9df76e). All appears to be working except <Shift> <Option> screenshots. These screenshots still work until I apply the post-install patches. I suspect this is because Apple still has not published an updated KDK for Sequoia

I'm still amazed that this old laptop can run Sequoia and receive updates from Apple. Posting this with Safari Version 26.4 (20624.1.16.18.1). Continuing to keep this hack alive as a hobby and not much else. Sequoia is surprisingly responsive on this 2010 laptop.

Why can't you build and install a new Open Core EFI with the correct options?

EDIT: Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post?

First time updating OCLP Sequoia on my recently-acquired 15" 2012 MBP with the 15.7.5 release today. Which means something new for me compared to my other OCLP machines, as apparently I need to run the update via terminal because the Software Update tool doesn't work with the 15" MBP's GPU?

Am offering slightly longer odds on this completing without a hitch versus me somehow accidentally downloading Tahoe 26.4 and bricking the whole thing. 😅 😬

Software update should work, it will download the full (large) install due to being patched previoully. After the update you must re-apply the Post-install Root Patch (it should prompt you automatically).

I have the same machine. And if it's like mine it will not work great on Sequoia, the video driver is very buggy, specially when using an external monitor.

Do you see video glitches (artifacts)? Like on these images.

Mine never worked correctly after the 15.4 update. I had to return to Sonoma, it's very fast and stable on Sonoma.

It’s a little difficult to explain… I had discovered that when building OpenCore with the specific machine model selected, then there was only one password prompt at boot (I have FileVault enabled): but I hadn’t seen that when selecting the exact model in the Settings, then Library Validation and AMFI automatically got disabled in the Settings (which is a strange glitch, indeed). If re-enabled, there is no difference between building with specific model and with the host model (default): so having only one password prompt at the beginning must have been because Library Validation and AMFI inadvertently got disabled. The real glitch here is that with the default OpenCore build process I then get a double password prompt, both at boot and at login: which shouldn’t be the case and is indeed strange - but I don’t know why…

Terminal download has reached 100%. Now hoping it's doing the usual 'preparing update' magic before prompting for a restart command. I've updated a bunch of OCLP devices before, so I know I'll need to repatch. Just usually do point updates like this straight from System Settings, which apparently isn't possible with the 2012 15" GPU 🫣

Ouch. That's not great. I've not seen anything like that on mine, but I haven't tried it with an external monitor tbf. Had a bunch of problems getting the initial install done (constant 'error preparing the software updater' in OCLP). But once I got 15.7.4 installed and patched, it's been fine. 🫤 (Unless this 15.7.5 update goes badly).

Edit: It didn't go badly. 😀 Minor panic when I rebooted via Terminal and the MBP booted back into 15.7.4 without patches and then OCLP gave the build mismatch error when trying to re-patch. But I tried the update again in Terminal, it found the 15.7.5 download and then rebooted/installed correctly.

I have an iBoot issue on my MacBook Pro 13.2: since the latest Sequoia 15.7.5 (24G624) update, SilentKnight has been reporting: iBoot 529.120.1.0.0; expected 13822.81.10, need to update iBoot firmware.

However, I even reinstalled macOS Monterey on the MacBook Pro, then reinstalled Sequoia, with no success. Can anyone help me?

SilentKnight doesn't officially support OCLP Macs. Firmware 529.120.1.0.0 is latest firmware for your MBP 13,2 installed w/ Monterey, the latest supported macOS for your model. OCLP unsupported Macs don't receive firmware updates.

Reposted with a few edits from the Mac Pro area, to reach a wider audience that might need to know this important OCLP information. My 5,1 and my newly-minted OCLP 2.4.1/Sequoia software installation are running fine, and are perfectly adequate for my relatively simple needs: I have no complaints so far.

However, my procrastination-driven timing (in waiting for software packages to mature and/or go EOL before adopting them) is impeccable. I installed OCLP and Sequoia 15.7.4 on Saturday, March 21. Yesterday, I went to the OCLP site on OpenCollective to make my donation, now that I'm actually adopting the software. I definitely wanted to support their efforts, which have been unceasing, and very dedicated. And I discovered that they have discontinued accepting donations, because they are apparently dissolving the effort. It would appear that OCLP itself may be going EOL.

Needless to say, this is a very sad development. I waited a little too long to support the effort. I can still capitalize on it, of course, but this is one of the great shareware success stories of the past few years, and I am very sad indeed that I didn't contribute earlier. It would appear that the introduction of Tahoe has effectively killed this effort. I mourn.

And if I'm actually wrong about this, please tell me so. I'll happily eat that crow...
