New error message:
The update was not found
The requested version of macOS is not available.
Once more getting also the warning that "Updates for this Mac are managed externally"
I returned this to Factory Presets before but it seems like it didn't work.

macOS update status now shows as resolved but I'm still having same issue:

I wonder if my partial download is corrupted. Anyone know where the partial download is cached?
I don't think that's the issue.

I've been trying to update my iMac all evening. Like everyone else, the download started and I was able to download several GB before getting the error. Then it started happening as soon as I hit the Update button.

Like you, I thought that maybe the partial download was somehow preventing it from retrying successfully once the status went green. So I tried to update my MacBook - which had never previously tried to download it. And that fails too - straight away with the same error.

Out of curiosity, some members mentioned that the issue what due to an issue with Akamai : how did they figure this out ? Can't find this in my logs.

Nope, still fails instantly (in Belgium) when I hit the update button.

Not good, Apple. Not good.

Again wondering if someone knows where the installer is stored...I can't find it. It used to be in Applications, but its not there and I can't find it in Alfred searching "macOS Big Sur" or any other installer name for that matter

I never understood the concern about sharing a serial number? Can‘t imagine you could do a lot with it other than check the spec and AppleCare status?
Yea, a serial number isn't the same as your phone number, SSN, Credit Card number.

It's downloading on my iMac now, but not my MacBook Pro. I'll just use the installer from the iMac when it's done.

Edit: I lied, it failed again at 2 GB.
