macOS Big Sur Installation Failed: 'An Error Occurred While Installing the Selected Updates'

I've been watching this forum for updates on this issue since 1:30 PM CST. Because I was receiving the same error message as everyone else had been receiving.

I can confirm VPN does work for circumventing whatever is going on.

I got that repeatedly over a few hours. I just gave up. I'll wait and see if there are any huge bugs, and maybe wait until the .1 release. (.2?)

Just tried again, different system, and within seconds, FAILED. *sigh*

Downloaded and installed using the link from Apple’s download server.
It’s a legit installer.

i’m just trying it out and will reinstall until the official one from the Appstore has been figured out.

Still not working for me (SoCal). It did prompt me to upgrade to the latest Safari browser. That was weird.

I got that too. Updated Safari and after it installed, I was able to kick off the Big Sur download.

SoCal here. Hangs at about 3 gigs before getting repeated previous error. Done this about 4 times now. I see the new safari update but haven't downloaded it yet.

Started downloading, then stopped with the error.. I just kept clicking Upgrade Now over and over, and it started downloading.. got about 1GB then stopped, so i just kept hitting the Upgrade Now button until it started downloading again, then it stopped again after about 3GB.. rinse, repeat...

OK, so I was able to download Big Sur sucessfully using the direct link. Downloading from the Software Update tab fails every single time...

Like many people I am downloading here and there whenever it decides to work. Funnily enough got a Safari update in-between and that went through without an error. at 7GB downloaded and 12 minutes remaining. Let's see how long this one lasts this time..

Hi,
For me, I've to update from 10.15.4 to 10.15.7, after run "sudo softwareupdate --reset-ignored". For some reason, version 10.15.7 was not previously updated. Anyway, now, I'm installing Big Sur version
(From Spain and no VPN)
