macOS Golden Gate 27.0 Beta 4 - What's New?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently running the latest macOS 27 beta. With each new beta release, I've noticed that app compatibility and overall stability have improved, which is great.

However, I still have the feeling that the operating system itself has gradually become slower. Right now, it feels noticeably sluggish at times, even though I'm using a MacBook Air M3 with 24 GB of RAM.

Once the final version of macOS 27 is released, I'm thinking about doing a completely clean installation:

* boot into Recovery,
* erase the internal drive,
* install a fresh copy of macOS 27,
* then restore all my data, apps, and settings from a Time Machine backup.

Since I shouldn't lose any data, do you think this is worth doing? Has anyone experienced a noticeable improvement in performance or overall system responsiveness after a clean install followed by a Time Machine restore, compared to simply updating from the beta to the final release?

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences and recommendations. Thanks!

I do a complete wipe and fresh install on all my Apple devices every year when the new OSs are released. Only difference is that I don’t restore from a backup - I “set up as new” then log into iCloud and let my data resync. It’s actually a quick process - installing a fresh OS is much quicker than upgrading. I do have to re-install my apps manually, but again this doesn’t take long and it’s a good opportunity to just install the stuff you use regularly and forget those apps you never use. My personal opinion is that most of the issues I read about on these forums would be solved with a wipe and fresh install 😂

This has been precisely my strategy from the start!

It honestly removes so many problems others report. It serves as 'spring cleaning' as well, as by the time a year runs through my phone is packed with apps I've tested and don't use, and my laptop is packed with experiments that start to grow fur =)

There's a new Shortcut action in macOS 27 that lets you integrate Describe a Shortcut into other shortcuts, producing a new shortcut as an action output. The generated shortcut will also appear in your gallery.

I was running off battery, and noticed it draining much quicker than usual.

A check in terminal (top -o cpu) and I killed AMPDevices.framework which was pretty much maxing out my CPU.

Everything back to normal, although I'll be keeping an eye on things.

Beta 5 is hopefully very very close. Yesterday, Apple published a new model catalog and base model update for the base Apple Intelligence model, along with Expressive Voice configs for every American and British Siri voice.

The new Expressive Voice configs require the new base model. The server isn't serving the new base model to current builds, so it seems that they're staging assets for a new macOS Beta version.

My Ethernet adapter (Ubiquiti 10G) stopped working with this beta after working fine on the previous ones. Shows "Self-assigned IP" but giving it a static IP doesn't work either. 😫 (Macbook Pro 14 M4 Max)

This seems to have been just a coincidence. After upgrading to b5 and having the same issue, I rebooted my switch and reseated all cables and it now works. Ooops.
