That’s ok, I won’t buy an Apple laptop then if it has that notch then, I’ll spend my money elsewhere, Apples loss at the end of the day. I accept it on my iPhone, it would annoy me endlessly on my laptop screen, wasting space for no real reason.
Im sure they won't miss you in the slightest.

If 2021 Dell XPS can come out with a almost no bezel laptop not sure why Apple can't..??

What’s the point of a notch when it is useless in fullscreen? I guess the XDR black screen would match the black color of the notch well.

well, look at that - who would have thought???
Notch haters, get on with life, it's going to stay for years to come
It's weird how bitter and antagonistic some people are toward those who aren't on board with this. Were you one of the Touch Bar defenders who thought it was here to stay as well?

The notch really killed the excitement of the new laptops for me.
Agreed. With no Face ID I just don’t see any justification for it. There are notchless phones with front facing cameras, so why can’t Apple fit a camera without a notch on a laptop?

It's funny because if the area either side of the notch was just bezel, people would not freak out nearly as much. but because there is extra screen for the desktop menu bar, everyone is freaking out.
Minor terminology quibble: I think of the aluminum frame around the display as the "bezel", and the inactive areas of the screen as the "borders".

To your point: If Apple had left the top border at 1/4", the whiners would be whining that it was too thick, and did not match the side borders.

"The screen is not centered! The borders are uneven! It hurts my eyes! Where's Jony Ive when we need him?"

So, if Apple caves to the whiners, the 2022 version loses the notch, and we get nice symmetrical 1/4" borders all around the display area. But then the whiners are back:

"Look at all the wasted space! Why couldn't they make the display larger? Even if they needed some area for the camera and ambient sensors, they could have used the areas on either side for something. Maybe status readouts? Menus? Then we could make the desktop larger!"

Whiners gotta whine.

the only people that would've whined are tech "enthusiasts" that think paper thin bezels are a feature most people care about.

The notch is the new TouchBar, and the TouchBar(the best thing since sliced bread said Apple once) is gone… 🤣

How long it will take for Apple to ditch that Display 💩 again? And what kind of Frankenpart will they introduce to replace the 💩 Notch? Best thing ever, the new TouchKeys?

Can’t they simply stop innovating their asses and just release a classic normally shaped MacBook Pro without any fancy brain bug inventions?

Edit: Ohhh god, will the Apple Car also have Notches, e.g. Windshield Notch? 🤣

the lack of Face ID is a crime. its so much better for this form factor than the other devices even
That feature is not as easy to implement as you might think. And I know that in many corporate environments it would be forbidden to use. Because the camera would have to be on all the time, if the screen/account is locked. Or you would have to signal to the computer somehow that you are back. But if you do that, by touching the trackpad or a key, you can use TouchID right away anyway. And would you allow it to work with external equipment as well? I would say, that for security reasons only the internal camera should be allowed. Limits the usability of such a feature again dramatically. Many people use the Laptop at the desk with an external monitor and an external camera (including myself).
In short: there is no real incentive and no easy way to implement FaceID on Mac. It is not worth the effort. Of course all the nerds out there want this extra whistle on their toy. But not everything that is technically possible makes also sense from a usability standpoint.
That's also why you still don't see a foldable phone design from Apple. The benefit of such a design is outweighed many times by the durability issues. The competition tried desperately to gain market share by "innovating" a lot. Most of the stuff comes and goes. Apple is watching closely meanwhile what really makes sense and incorporates the features that really seem to make a difference in daily use and user adoption.
That doesn't mean that Apple gets it all right all the time and sometimes it feels as if they are late to the game. But overall they play it pretty smart.

This is objectively wrong. I use full screen CONSTANTLY. It's essential for power users on the go to be able to use multiple virtual desktops and swipe between them.
You are a sample size of one (1).

That's an anecdote, not evidence.

Does that Dell XPS have a mini LED backlit XDR display with 1600 nits of brightness and a 120hz pro motion screen? If Apple can do it, not sure why Dell can't.

Is the camera even comparable? Maybe the camera module Apple uses is just too big to squish into that tiny spot? Having the notch allows for technically a larger surface area sensor - which they confirmed that's what they did.
