There lies the rub. As a dummy I installed the modified installer on another partition of the same HD. Now I don<t have access to it :(
    --- Post Merged, Dec 7, 2017 at 6:31 AM ---
Is there a way to somehow prepare the usb key using Mint MATE? I really did not think through when I did the install on the HD instead of a USB drive... Now I fear that I am completely SOL. I can't seem to be able to do anything with my MBP now.

Lastly I did reset the PRAM as a desperate effort to enable internet recovery. So I would need to disable SIP additionnaly...

I've attempted to download high sierra through the patcher multiple times but it hasn't gotten past this stage. I have a Macbook Pro 2009 (5,5) with 10.6.6 on it. I've left it for hours multiple times without success.

AFAIK, MacBookPro5,1 does not support internet recovery.

You need to get a USB drive with the bootable installer. Once you have that you can simply apply the patch and you'll be able to boot that machine. Do you have access to another Mac to create the USB installer drive?

Also, hopefully you have a backup drive. If it's a clone of your original, you can just boot off that. If not, do you have any OS X install discs (since you have an optical drive)?

Let this be a lesson. Always have lots of backups, with at least one bootable backup preferred, and always follow the instructions!

When you say, "had to update the AMD patch to gain GPU acceleration again...", how did you go about doing that? I've rebooted to my patched installer and run the AMD patch there, but that doesn't re-enable my GPU.

I've updated a MacBookPro5,2 17" mid-2009 to macOS 10.13.2 High Sierra, which has also resulted in the problem already described by many above that Apple WebKit apps, e.g. Safari or the Mac App Store, wouldn't render anything. Firefox Quantum 57.0.1 was also affected in a way that its tabs would crash on launch or opening. Contrary to others, resetting the NVRAM, i.e. Alt + Cmd + P + R, would not resolve the issue on my MacBookPro5,2.

An automation run of Titanium's OnyX tool however has finally resolved the problem.

Just to share my observations: As already reported by @ATC before, the 10.13.2 update is not listed in the list of installed updates if checked in the Mac App Store's 'Updates' tab afterwards. Furthermore, the (manually modified) macOS 10.13.2 Combo Update fails near the end on my MacBookPro5,2, which of course could explain the version provided by Apple's online software update does not appear in the list of installed updates, either.

Here's what happened to me. I found the updates via the App Store - there were 3: iTunes, Safari Technology Preview and 10.3.2. I installed the iTunes and Safari updates individually first, then the 10.3.2 update.

On first start afterwards, I got a black screen. Didn't know what to do so hard-powered off. On next boot, no black screen and logged in OK. App Store started automatically but the window was blank. Having read previous posts, I opened Safari to see if it was similarly affected. Sure enough, the Safari windows were blank also. Meanwhile I got a message from the App Store window that said not all updates were applied - I chose "Install Now". Nothing obvious happened - all windows were still blank.

Per previous suggestions I ran Onyx's Automation script (I'd already downloaded Onyx in preparation). Restarted and now I'm OK.

However, despite About This Mac showing 10.3.2, the App Store doesn't show that I've installed 10.3.2 and neither does the Installation log in the System Report.

Should I be worried about this? And also, should I worry about the "Not all updates were applied" that I received earlier?

Makes me want to re-apply the 10.3.2 update but I don't know how to do it.

Edit: Forgot to say, I'm on a MacBookPro5,1

I also had to run Onyx on 2 macs. MacBook Pro 5,1 and 5,3. Both are running fine after that.

You'd have to try. I only had problems with Safari not loading pages.

This has to be the worst update, every time the MacPro3,1 freezes and cannot wake up.

I have performed the Onyx Automation, but nothing seems to work.

Is the red screen for log in normal ?

How to revert back to Sierra ?

    I've just been reading
    https://eclecticlight.co/2017/12/07/whats-really-in-the-high-sierra-10-13-2-update/
in particular the parts talking about MRT (Malware Removal Tool) and XProtect.

I followed the suggestion to check the versions with LockRattler (from that website) and sure enough mine are showing as versions 1.25 and 2096 respectively. If I understand correctly, these were updated by the recent Security Updates but it appears that they have been overwritten (at least for me) by 10.3.2. back to the previous versions.

As I'm running on an unsupported Mac I didn't feel it right to post a comment on that website.

Anyone here know anything about this?

No problems here on a MacPro 3,1 but I downloaded the full installer for macOS 10.13.2 on a supported machine and used that to create a patched usb installer in order to do a full install 10.13.2 over 10.13.1.

The built-in downloader has issues on 10.6. Update to 10.7 or later, and it'll work.

I hope Apple cools it with the updates for a bit. I feel like everytime I get the bugs ironed out they come out with something new.

Hello all, greetings from Japan. I have been successfully running my early 2008 iMac with this patch (thanks dosdude1) but someone decided to reset pram and restart without taking care of sip leaving me with a machine with no working usb/bluetooth, meaning I have no way to boot into recovery to try and take care of this mess and/or reinstall...does anyone have any advice for my predicament? If you do, please share as this is the only computer I have right now so really need it to come back to life. I really appreciate any advice/help in advance. Have a great weekend, wherever you may be. thank you

Clean install of 10.13.2 successful on a MBP-4.1 15" using dd 2.5.1 patcher. Wifi works because I replaced the wifi card with a newer natively supported one. Everything seems to be working fine. Safari and App Store working without any tinkering. Only one minor issue I have is that safari iCloud favorites not syncing. I've tried turning it off and back on a few times and nothing. Keychain is loading though.

Is your USB drive compatible for such boots on that machine? Many are not.

Also there does no longer seems to be a boot sequence. Meaning there is no chime, no bong sound and the mac in verbose mode tells me it loads from the hd.

I just used the Patch Updater app which is automatically installed when you apply the post-install.

    Hi,

does somebody know why the "Automation" tasks of OnyX fix the WebKit issues after updating to macOS 10.13.2?
I'm just curious. It also fixed the issue on my late 2008 MacBook.

Some other issues still remain, like the "Photos" app being displayed without an icon in the Finder (but the application works, nonetheless). Also, when trying to test the "I am root" bug using the users & groups preference pane, the dialog box / sheet, where one has to enter the user credentials, opens multiple times.

    Cheers
    Oli
