Them bringing back ports on their new laptops won't magically bring back ports on a computer I bought last year and intend to use for 4 more years. It's funny how companies think they "solved" a problem by releasing new products, but never think of those who bought the previous products not long ago.
Some people really live in a bubble and think everyone buys the new product each year.

How is the track record for other computer manufacturers such as Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Asus, HP, Huawei, LG, etc? Do they ever have bugs that take a long time to fix?
Relax. No, hardly irrelevant. Unless you're expecting 100.0% perfection 100.0% of the time. Perhaps that exists with the other computer manufacturers? Or maybe somewhere else other than planet Earth?

Maybe finding another computer manufacturer and rewarding them with your currency would help make you un-pissed?
Hello, let me introduce you to a local celebrity named Expectations Management. She works in Apples PR department and might not be doing a great job right now because the end-users are more vocal than her competitor's because she's always saying things "Just Work" and now people are coming for her head.

In summary, and in conclusion, don't make excuses for Apple by using straw-man arguments. Of course they aren't 100% perfect 100% of the time. However, they bring the excess criticism upon themselves due to a perceived higher standard of their own creation.

Cripes, dude.

I have 2 USB Hubs in which both drop the connection during file transfers of both large and small files using the OSX Extended Journed Format option on a western digital 5tb external drive. Even when plugged into the machine directly they drop transfers. I think it is Monterey as Big Sur or previous OSX versions never did this. It is so annoying!! PLEASE FIX!!

Have no idea where you were coming from in the first paragraph. Likely it was a failed attempt at humor.

Moving on...Not making excuses, dude. Simply wondering where Apple slots in regarding bug fixes with respect to the other dozen or so computer manufacturers. Show me some data. Try not to let my legitimate questions trigger you.

I have a 500GB external SSD. After upgrading, it would take minutes to mount every time I rebooted. Previously, it was instant. I was able to get it to mount in a couple of seconds by converting it to APFS. It was fine under Big Sur.

Some Mac users who upgraded to macOS Monterey this week are experiencing problems getting USB hubs and other USB-based devices to work properly with their machines, based on scattered online reports.

There have been several reports on Reddit, Apple's Developer Forums, and Apple's Support Communities about the issues. In some cases, users say the the USB 3.0 ports on their hub no longer work since upgrading to Monterey, while HDMI, USB-C, and other hub ports continue to work as expected.

In other user reports surfacing online, the USB hubs fail to work at all. Some of the problems even relate to Apple certified hubs. Reddit user Flyersny81 relates their experience:
In other cases, the USB hubs work except for the power delivery port. For some, it's the additional connectivity provided by external displays that no longer works, with the power delivery affected in particular. From Apple's Developer Forums:
Many of the reports are from owners of M1-powered Macs, but not all. Some users have reported similar issues on Intel Macs. Based on user discussions, USB issues were reported in early beta versions of Monterey, suggesting this could be due to a legacy bug that Apple has still not patched.

As such, the problems appear to be evident in all versions of Monterey, including the latest 12.0.1 version. Suffice to say, anyone who has yet to upgrade to Monterey and relies on a USB hub is advised to hold off upgrading until Apple issues a fix.

While admittedly have a more shall we say “thrifty” hub (albeit 11-1), pretty much all oorts stopped working…for sure USB…2.0 and 3.0…RJ45 ethernet stopped working, and the HDMI became spotty at best…and worked fine under Big Sur. Ended up splurging for a brand new Anker, cost way more…but all worked fine from minute I plugged in.

I reported this months ago in the beta, and then there were...crickets.
I was having zero issues when I was using the beta for months. I had no issues until 12.0.1 came out.

Anyone having any issues with 12.1 beta?

Oh...so that's universally true and absolute? And if the above doesn't happen no software bugs get fixed?
Pretty much how it is on iOS... I've reported the same bugs (including entirely broken features) to Apple only to watch them persist being broken for FIVE MAJOR OS REVISIONS.

I had a weird issue with my 2019 MacBook Pro ports sporadically not working and forcing me to do an SMC reset to get them to work. This happened before and after upgrading to Big Sur. Even Apple tech support told me it was a logic board problem.

And then, it magically went away. I haven't had the problem for a year. Weird.

Shoutout to the saints at TwelveSouth tech support. I drove them crazy insisting that their StayGo hub was defective when it was actually the Mac. My sincerest apologies. ;)

I just did a search of the articles and all the comments and I still have a question: where does one find what third-party products are "Apple-certified"? Searching the 'net for an answer produced nothing satisfactory. At Apple.com, the only USB adapter there is a Belkin. I posted a link to this article on several of the Mac forums to which I belong and several responders asked that I ask this question here: anyone have an answer???

Anybody tried with thunderbolt hubs vs usb-c hubs?

This update has caused lots of issues on intel machines TBH. My 2013 Mac Pro can’t even install it because of a “firmware” that can’t be updated.

I was testing beta and noticed a huge improvement and wanted to release it across the board to a lot of production machines but now I will be waiting probably a few months. Maybe even a year.
This might help: Mac Firmware Versions

I’ve read this a lot… question is though, if everyone were to take this advice, no one would ever update… no one would find bugs and there wouldn’t be any updates…
Your question is hypothetical. Do you see everyone ever doing the same thing?

This makes me nervous about the upgrade I was going to do this weekend. I rely on a couple of (pretty generic) USB hubs for HDMI, USB, audio and Ethernet. Can we put together a list of working send ones with issues?

No issues with my Cal-digit hubs on both Apple Silicon , nor Intel, thank goodness!!!

I use a Sabrent HB-MAC7 7 port powered USB 3 hub with my 2020 27" iMac. I've got four external drives and a multi-card reader continually connected to it. No issues after upgrading the OS

Found my own answer. https://mfi.apple.com/en/how-it-works.html It's Apple's MFi program, but there are no MFi-certified hubs that I could find; primarily cables and chargers,

Anyone have any reports regarding Monterey, Intel 2020 MBP, and ikling 9-in-1 hub?

Glad to see Apple is still using early adopters as beta testers. Since Jaguar in 2002. And back then they weren't forcing out a new release every year either.
