macOS Sequoia 15.2 Beta Shows Weather in Menu Bar

In the latest macOS Sequoia 15.2 beta, there is a new option to add the weather in your current location to the menu bar of the Mac. The menu bar weather feature shows the temperature along with an icon for the weather conditions, like a cloud if it's cloudy and a sun if it's sunny.

Clicking into the icon shows an hourly view of the upcoming conditions and temperature, along with the weather in other locations that you have saved. You can also open the Weather app from the menu bar interface.

The Weather icon can be enabled by opening up the Mac's Settings app, going to Control Center, and scrolling down to the "Menu Bar Only" section. Weather joins other options that include Clock, Spotlight, Siri, and Time Machine.

The macOS Sequoia 15.2 beta is limited to developers at the current time, but Apple may release a public beta in the not too distant future. macOS Sequoia 15.2 will be released in early December.

I don't mean to be negative, but I don't see the point of this. If it still requires a click to show the forecast then how is it any different from the current feature? If I want to know the current weather then I can just look out the window, which is bound to be more reliable than asking a server somewhere else.

It shows the summary without needing to click. I like it more than the sidebar widgets, which I just could never get into the routine of using.

Hey… nice (and unexpected) addition to macOS.

In the future they could integrate some kind of Activity Monitor on the menu bar, showing the CPU, GPU and RAM.

That's fun. For years, I used an freeware app called Meteoroloist for this. Lots of interesting options and customizability, but maintained by volunteers and I'm sure nowhere near as slick as a native OS feature will be.

The point is that you can quickly see the temperature outside in your menu bar. That's pretty much all there is to it.

Dare I mention for how long this has been a thing on Windows? I had been using an app called Meteorologist to get the same feature on my Mac. Time to also add a decent calendar as menu bar option.
