Even though I"m not buying one, I hope they do come with Kaby Lake. It'll be bad if every year Apple releases new Macs with last year's Intel chip. I understand why they stuck with Haswell for so long, but the only way to make up for it is to offer the latest chips.

The new Macs are 1000000000000000000000x more exciting than iPhone 7.

A laptop is more exciting than a phone.. ? no way... well..maybe a bit only because of the removal of the headphone jack..

I can't even imagine a number that big, let alone count it..

Apple's Metal came WAY before Vulkan, and supplants aging OpenGL. I do hope they put new GPUs in the next Macs. Seems likely.

Pretty sad to have to carry a dorky dongle around for a 2k MBP so it can interface with the hundreds of millions of USB ported thumb drives and hard drives and printers etc. in the world. Pro Tip - Pro's need to interface with other drives, equipment and media.

Let's not all get jolly good over some specs here....very atypical of any apple lover...

You guys should've learned by now: never ever buy 1st generation apple product. Wait for 2nd or even 3rd revisions before you spend your hard earned dollars.

Nah, always buy first generation. IPod first generation was awesome, way better than anything else out then. iPhone first generation awesome and way better than anything else out then. iPad first generation awesome and way better than anything else out then. Watch . . . well not awesome, but good and about to get a very nice OS update. Sure if you save your money you have more money, which is nice. But then you have to wait a year without the stuff.

This is (if true) exciting news for Mac hardware, as it means eGPUs. Now if Apple just got around to bringing the OS back to what it once was...

But, Apple is getting so stupid these days on the software front, I'm just not sure anymore. It's even impacting iOS. Apple is now doing stuff we used to pick on Microsoft for.

It does make perfect sense if you believe that the delay is related to:

1. Apple waiting for AMD's 14nm Polaris mobile GPU
2. Tuning macOS Sierra to the OLED function bar that will be on the new MBP

I don't think that the next MBP's coming out within the next couple of months will be based on Kaby Lake, but Skylake CPUs.
I can see that. However, skylake would require a special chipset for TB3. I can't see Apple putting in a chip set, then removing it in a Kabylake update six months later.

The Kaby Lake models suitable for the MBP won't be available this year. Only the low-end ones (for the rMB).
I believe the u series kabylake chips will be available soon. You know, what would go in an updated MBA and its Windows analogues like the HP spectre and the Dell XPS. I don't know about the future of the MBA, but the HP and Dells will be available before Christmas no doubt, just like the HP and Dells were last year! with u series Skylake.

5K 27" Thinderbolt/USB-C display with a High end GPU would be an awesome product...

I'm holding out hope for an update Mac Pro with modern hardware. Adding a second, third or fourth M.2 slot would be a great new feature.

I don't find myself interfacing much with thumb drives, hard drives, or printers using physical connections any more. I used to, and I admit I have worried about how a new connector would affect me. But seeing it put the way you did made me realize how long it has been since I used a wire to connect to a printer.

Nowadays, nearly everything I do is wireless, even in my professional life.

Really? The adapters moaning isn't going to go away I guess. There are likely to be a crop of multi adapters for all the basics—mini docks and even combo adapters with AC adapters. Even now, I carry adapters because I have to connect to stuff that shouldn't have a native port these days.

Ethernet? Does the vast majority of the laptop-using world use these regularly anymore?

Firewire? Pretty niche these days.

VGA?

I have an 11" Macbook air, and I use Ethernet and VGA every day at work. We have projectors in every conference room with VGA cables ready for the laptops. I have a direct ethernet connection to the PC under my desk for remote desktop and access to sensitive files that we cannot put on the cloud.

I remember the days when Apple updated the core product line annually, in time for the back-to-school buying season. I desperately need a new MacBook Pro, but don't want to buy a current one if a vastly improved model is right around the corner.

And I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation.

when Steve was releasing a new product we would always be shocked and always say:
"I can't believe they even though of this, how great this is!"

with Timmy new products you always say:
"oh no it doesn't do this, I though it did ! I need to buy an adapter or external device now !"

mark my words !!!!!

1. the mac pro looked nice but created a mess of adapters, cables and external devices

2. the macbook looked great but it was slow, the battery lasted less, one port only and 480p

3. the mac mini was neutered and has soldered ram

4. the iMac has soldered ram and 5400rpm drives

5. the phones and iPad have bumps

6. the watch is so slow

7. i have to stop working in order to charge the mouse with a port underneath

there is always something very very annoying about every single Apple product now !

You mean like the new MacBook Air Steve Jobs introduced in 2008 with one USB port, an 80GB 4,200 RPM spinning hard disk, 1.6GHz Core Duo cpu, and 2GB of RAM? For $1,799.

This is nice. It may not seem like much, but the fact that my iMac from 2011 had a fast Firewire port meant I could put my boot drive on an external SSD and enjoy some very nice performance improvements. It is holding me over for another year at least.
So while I can't see regularly transfering files at that speed and actually needing it. I could see having an input port at that level allowing the next generation of Macs enjoying the ability to externally adding stuff over the years.

USB is so confusing. USB 3.1 gen 2... What's next? USB 3.1 gen 2 rev b?

USB 3.1 gen 2 Alternate mode: dual link

Think about it: Someday, some geek will be looking at the extra pins on the USB-C connector, and will decide to connect a full second USB 3.1 channel to the pins available for alternate mode assignment.

Just about time for Apple to release standard ports on all devices, including Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 Type C Gen 2 and SDXC with extra pins supporting maximum read/write speeds (300 MB/s).

A new Thunderbolt Display would go quite nicely with this. But I would also love to see a 32GB RAM BTO option. I'm still amazed that any computer maker can call a machine "pro" when it's maxed out with only 16GB of RAM.
32GB Ram, and 2TB SSD option as well please ;-)
