Meanwhile my hubs are useless, and even the wired keyboard I had plugged into my M2 mini caused a panic eboot. Sigh.

Oh I hear you, believe me -- it's the type of thing that should be treated as a nearly "emergency fix" IMO

A platform vendor OS release should never be rendering USB hubs non functional
It's totally ridiculous

Beyond ridiculous. THIS is why my opinion of Apple has soured over the past year or more and the money I spend on Apple products has dropped considerably since I got this M2 Mini last year. The hardware is great, but the software has REALLY fallen off. Like you said, this should have been fixed ASAP, now it's one week later and I can't even run my Plex server because this is causing panic reboots, and I can't even plug in my favorite mouse, an old-school wired mouse, an APPLE MOUSE, because THAT is causing panic reboots. Ridiculous. Don't even get me started on homepod OS.

100% agree
I went back to Monterey and I'm staying here for the foreseeable future.
It's fast, stable, smooth -- everything works.

Before Sonoma for a bit I was on Ventura and that had also reached a great state and would be a good place to stay for awhile also.

Getting dragged along for the never ending "beta test of macOS versions" is exhausting and not what most of us want for a primary/work machine.

Of course, I am missing out on the latest emojis 🙄

I'm tempted to fire up my aging 2015 air and run everything off of that. Fan noise city! Or go pick up what is still my holy grail of MBP, the 2015 15". My friend has his for his graphics business and music and it runs like a champ.

But emojis!

Just acquired a nearly new 2015 15" MBP a few days ago -- running Monterey dead silent and buttery smooth with OCLP and a new NVMe stick.

It's probably my favorite Mac ever -- save for my 17" PowerBook G4, which will always hold a special place in my heart.

I wish I never sold my 13" two years ago. Big mistake. Ran like a champ but I never used it. If only I knew how bad the MacOS bugs would get.

May go your route and grab me a 2015 15".

At least M$ addresses the issue. Apple doesn't they just ignore it. You know its bad when your regional Apple SE gives up on trying to find answers and just says, "You have to be patient I'm sure they'll patch it soon." Still waiting for Apple to fix the Webkit security issues. Seems like they just don't care.
Oh no they don't.

I wasnt aware that the update causes issues with USB hubs so i updated without thinking. Fortunately the Acasis swappable SSD storage hub has no issues. Would’ve been a real bummer since I use the SSD as the primary storage for Lightroom.

The way they "fix things", it'll probably languish like this until a new version of macOS in the Fall
Either that or put the fix in 14.4.1? Either that? Or the bitter skeptical answer, but which is in way, in a mass way to the truth of the matter. They fix things in every single update.

Are you on Intel or M CPU?

Sadly I can confirm my Sonnet Echo 11 Thunderbolt 3 Dock does NOT WORK ANYMORE, it's completely dead after the update, not even power passthrough. This is a disaster.

One time updating macOS wasn't an issue as we knew it will be smooth sailing, we all just updated as it wasn't like the Windows NT or Windows update experience.
How times have changed, now when they is a macOS update we all wait to see what issues and bugs it has.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but some of us have had luck reconnecting USB peripherals after logging out of the current session and then back in again. It's not permanent though. I have to do this every so often ... maybe after a reboot or something.

Just wanted to give a warning on this issue for anyone considering installing 14.4.1 (which is supposed to fix the USB issue).

I installed yesterday for my M1 Ultra Mac Studio and am now having issues with certain external SSDs. Namely, it's WD Blue and Black SSDs in the USB-C Sabrent housings. My Mac will randomly disconnect the drives during file transfers, and files that say they're transferred to the drive aren't always there now. Tested all ports, tested other disks, and tested these with another computer–it's definitely the new patch. Seems like whatever Apple did to fix the USB hub issue has reduced power output enough to cause problems with these.

Super frustrating–I use these drives professionally for video editing as they're the fastest on the market. I'm going to have to revert my OS.

Warning to others!
