Has anyone else seeing that their devices do not show up with an 'lsusb'? I have experienced that I can plug my dock back in and of my two external USB drives, one will show up and mount, the other won't even show up on USB.

I've found that an older USB 2 external hard drive causes my Mac Studio to start-up extremely slowly (7-8 minutes) with 14.4. I thought I had malware, and did a full reinstall, etc, wasted 2 days trying to figure it out.
The drive was problematic with 14.3 and wouldn't eject, needed to be force ejected every time.
It just leaves you thinking when is it ever safe to update? 14.20?
Productive week so far, thanks Apple.

With 14.4 I have the “Mac needed to restart due to a problem” occurring if I leave my MacMini (M2/8/256) on for a few hours. I have an SSD connected via USB C and I wonder if the issue is related. Anybody else experiencing this?

Apple needs to re-assess the Mac Pro. This is where PCIe expansion is much better. But I just cannot justify a $3,000 increase just for PCIe. Ugh.

Got 5-6 times kernel panic / day on my 2023 MBP16 M3 Max after I update from 14.3.1 to 14.4. Formatted my SSD and installed 14.3.1 - works like a charm.

I've been having harddrive ejections since Venture, where they suddenly eject several times, and I get the message that I didn't properly eject the harddrive. Maybe this is related? Never happened in Monterey.

Some Mac users who updated to Apple's latest macOS Sonoma 14.4 software release are experiencing connectivity issues with USB hubs and monitors with USB ports, with several reports of mice, keyboards, and other peripherals no longer being detected.

While Apple works on a fix, a handful of users have had some success by changing the setting "Allow accessories to connect" to "Ask for new accessories" under the Security section of System Settings ➝ Privacy & Security.

Have you had a problem connecting peripherals over USB hubs since updating to macOS Sonoma 14.4? Let us know in the comments.

(Thanks, Matt!)

This is why I never update, even minor updates, for a few weeks until I learn if the update introduces new problems. Props to all those that update right away so as to let me know....

I need to do the same, sounds like same problem. The sudden restart even broke my AFPS encrypted external drive as it wasn’t ejected properly. How did you downgrade to 14.3.1? Is it possible to download that version and install from USB perhaps? Or easier way?

So this is only for MacBook Macs but not desktop Macs? I don't see this on my iMac M3 "Allow accessories to connect" to "Ask for new accessories" under the Security section of System Settings ➝ Privacy & Security."

Just tried my OWC Thunderbolt Hub, with my 3 connected Thunderblade drives, on my MBP16 M1 Max. No issues.

I have a 1.5TB microSD card in a flush-mounted adapter always attached to my M3 Max MacBook Pro for extra storage. After the 14.4 update I got a message, "Drive ejected improperly," after the reboot. Since then the microSD card is not detected by the OS. The card works fine in a Caldigit TS4 reader.

Thank god my M3 Max MBP still seems to work well with my Dell WD19TB dock and attached monitors after the update.

Pretty sure Apple dropped the "It just works" motto around the same time Google dropped "Don't be evil".
