So I guess everyone is just going to ignore this addition which was very controversial a year or two ago:

- Expanded Communication Safety protections for children now detect videos containing nudity in addition to photos shared through Messages and the system Photos picker

Is Apple going to include something that scans your local files now under the guise of security? And also thinking that this will fly under the radar and no one will notice? I'm an Apple fan, but this is severely questionable and raises a lot of red flags. Using child porn as an reason to remove personal privacy protections is always the excuse. What's next, no more encryption? It goes without saying that protecting children is of the utmost importance. But this is not the answer.

I hope more people notice this item in the list and are troubled by it. This makes me not want to upgrade to any further MacOS versions.

Exactly what features are you seeking in a mature desktop OS?
It took me awhile to think of one, but more options than 30 days on the time delay to delete a file from trash would be nice. Why is that not a configurable parameter?

But really, the point is valid. Snow Leopard seems to have everything I need. Even when I fire up the old Tiger machine the only problem I have with the OS or desktop is the lack of ExFAT support.

Oh, and I can't log into the server (Monterey) from Tiger anymore. That is occasionally a bummer.

... or let the user set a freely adjustable max cap for the battery charge

Those may be surface-level changes, but there's so much more under the hood.
This is true. Reading over the release notes I was taken by how many features are "AI" (for some loose value of AI) related. It's not splashy stuff like ChatGPT (which I've yet to find compelling for real world use) but the little tweaks: finding pets in photos, better typing prediction, adaptive airpod ANC, personal voice. The DWIM nature of MacOS (and iOS) continues to improve year over year in useful ways.

Oh good, more useless features like Stage Manager.

I'm still waiting for them to restore Save As so I don't have to hold a key down every time I want to do that. I still don't get why they think that's a good idea, as if nobody ever saves something under another name, in a different folder, etc.

yes, i understand that...
stuff like shift+cmd+. isn't something i'd necessarily want to change, it's just that ctrl+h is still more memorable and cogent to come up with again all by yourself, if you haven't been working on a specific OS for a long time, despite the . in the Finder shortcut being used for hidden files too
Mac has been using the command key as long as I can remember. And how hard is it really to remember or learn that the modifier key is command on Mac compared to control on Windows and Linux? It all depends on what you’re used to of course, but I don’t think Apple should alienate its long time user base by suddenly swapping out command in favor of control.

i never said they should swap out any command?
i just stated there are some better / more intuitive ones

also, none of my suggestions were meant to be absolute and exactly those that Apple should be focusing on...
they are just suggestions for improvements on the actual OS, for features that could be improved... forget about changing long established commands, but there are still many things, which could be improved, as others have pointed out too.

many of those are really minor things, but such things can actually drastically improve something, instead of yet another add-on that the marketing team thought sounds splendid on paper, which again comes with it's own share of inconveniences and shortcomings, because there was not enough time to develop them fully, or even made sure that it is really needed when there are already existing things in the OS which could do that, and more, much better, with just some slight changes.
and those new shiny thins will never truly become great too, since they are too busy holding the deadline for next year's new gimmicks

so what i'm really trying to say is: focus more on improving the actual OS and it's long existing tools... than adding further bloat, which, in most cases wouldn't even need to exist if they just improved the existing tools

I really wish Apple would stop with the yearly OSX releases. Its exhausting wondering if your apps are all going to be compatible and in the end I just end up waiting several months until I know everything works and there won't be an app I need that hasn't been updated or crashes regularly.

Just refine what we have and go on a two year cycle of upgrades. Then they will seem more significant.
Sure. MacOS Sonoma - the last major upgrade to the OS you’ve always known and loved, the last version of MacOS that you’ll
ever need.

i personally think both have their place...
there are things where GUIs are way easier and faster to work with, but there are also things that are way easier and faster via keyboard
so why not make use of both?
for instance, for a mostly mouse centric use, i'd personally put Windows above macOS, but the combination of mouse and keyboard is imo superior on macOS.
Some of these macOS keyboard “shortcuts” require the dexterity and muscle memory of Eddie Van Halen tapping out “Eruption.”Oh well, “Hey, Siri! Command Control Home, please.”

yes, some of them can be convoluted.
overall though, i think they might be the best of the OSes i know
and thankfully i'm not too reliant on the truly complicated ones.

much of this simply comes by the use of cmd instead of ctrl for many of them, which in my experience makes changing your hand positions less prominent than on other OSes
though you could of course use the right ctrl instead on those, but i still prefer the simplicity of using cmd on the l/h side

but i also love things like cmd + , to open the settings in most apps.
i'm not aware of some comparable command for this on my Linux distro that works globally for almost every app.

Ah yes, Snow Leopard, I remember it well.
TBH, I would be cool if they rolled with that schedule. 1 year new OS with new features, 1 year with just optimisations, making everything a bit faster and polished.

Impractical to utilize anything longer than annual marketing revolving against WWDC hardware/software technology advances. Apple hasn't done it different since 2011 Tiger.

This is a sly attempt by Apple to access our cat photos! 😺

I'm not sure why but I couldn't find anyone that would do a 2017 battery although many said that a pre 2015 battery replacement is no issue for them ?
The newer MacBooks have the battery glued to the top case. It's a much more difficult repair on the newer ones because of that. I have to use solvent to dissolve the glue, instead of just removing a few screws.

I really thought they backed off of this?
