I have this issue on an M1 iMac with no external monitors. I do run the betas of MacOS, and I also thought I might be having a hardware issue.

I have a pair of LG 32UN880 monitors on a Mini M4 Pro. I've had this issue with just the secondary one. It flickers, and sometimes just goes dark. With the latest 26.2 update a new problem emerged. Now it resets the display resolution to the default 1920x1080 and doesn't even show any of the higher rsolutions in the Displays control panel. I have to disconnect power to the monitor and power on again to correct it. Rinse and repeat.

Over at the Mac Observer web site they have a complete ( so far ) list of all known iOS 26.x bugs and fixes as well as a list for iPadOS 26.x bugs and fixes. I haven’t yet found one for MacOS yet.

They list 77…..SEVENTY SEVEN…known iOS bugs with fixes. 26 is an unmitigated disaster on all Apple platforms. If you’re able and haven’t yet upgraded to 26…go right now and sign up for a free Apple Beta Test account. After you do that turn off ALL automatic updates in Settings/General/Software Updates. Reboot or log back into your device and go back to Settings/General/Software Updates and look for the new toggle “Beta Updates”. Toggle that “On” and let it cycle for a second. You will then see a choice of Tahoe or Sequoia. Choose Sequoia. After a second or two you will see only Sequoia as a choice. That’s it . You’ll never see another nag screen for Tahoe until you turn off the “Beta Update” switch. You’ll only ever get Sequoia updates….not 26.

For those unfortunate enough to have either willfully upgraded or were forced by Apple here is the link to the Mac Observer page with all of iOS 26 fixes so far.

I am about to download 18.7.3 onto my wife’s M1 iPad Air. This update is what was offered a few days ago - 26 was never offered. It says the file is 390.1 MB. Her iPhone 14 was offered only iOS 26 until I signed up her phone for a Beta Test account. The file I am now being offered on her phone - which is listed as a Public Beta - is 7.18 GB. Is there an issue here? Should I be seeing the same 390.1 MB file that’s offered on her iPad?

Glad this hit the front page. Someone might do something about it.

I have experienced this. It goes away for a few days after an update then comes back again which suggests there's some kind of time-dependent property of it. Also it only happens in default P3-600 mode and not in P3-D65 mode so I'm having to use it in the latter. I mostly use it for photo editing fortunately.

I reckon the whole thing is probably related to the ambient light sensor, brightness control and truetone somehow.

Not to worry, everyone, for Apple’s Official Position on the Matter will save the day: Engineering is aware of the issue affecting a small number of users. Keep your device up to date. No further troubleshooting will be provided.

If I ever get one of those situations I'm just going to sell this ****, take a week off and work out how to get Linux usable on the desktop.

I’m not sure this is a Tahoe-only bug. I started having these issues with Sequoia. If anything it’s gotten slightly better under Tahoe.
Yes M2 Ultra Mac Studio and I am still on Sequoia and it happens completely randomly on one of my displays. And get pretty bad at times, but always comes and goes. I have dual external displays and it only happens on one, so I have actually been wondering if it is the hdmi port vs usb c, but I have an 18 month old so I have not had a chance to try and fix it.

It’s not new in Tahoe. It seems to happen when there’s HDR content on one of the screens. It’s not specific to Studio Display.

In fact, it seems to happen on iPhone too sometimes.
