Blood donation

Well the race was yesterday so today was blood donation. Gave a double red cell donation in San Diego.

Brought the camera to pass on my picture.

Keep going and giving when eligible!

Today is my second time donating.

I also donate to our GeneTox department but they don't give the cool armband and treats.

Another Double Platelet Donation on 6/1

Good platelet count yesterday (6/1) resulted in another double platelet donation at Inova. Yeehaw!!!

How did it go?

Apologies for the late response.

27th of May I successfully gave blood for the first time!
Me and 3 friends all went along in a free period off school, all for the first time.
It was an interesting experience.
When the needle first went in, it felt really weird and I went a little dizzy, but it settled down from there and all was good!
Apparently I'll be finding out my blood type or something like that in the mail soon, and I plan on going back to give more in the future.
Nice to know I might be saving someone's life! :D

Yikes! Platelets. I'm a poor college student.

Made weight by 1 lb.

I had no idea you could donate platelets twice a week.

Sorry, didn't notice this before my last platelets donation (I think it was a triple, but that isn't mentioned on the blood bank's site) on 5/29. I'll try to get some pictures with my next appointment (6/12). I'm a regular and have been donating a while.

Donation done!

One unit of blood donated, no I'll effects at all :)

Slightly OT: Apologies for the slightly strange looking photos, both taken with my iPhone and attached via Dropbox and my personal webserver while this post was written on my iPad. Both photos should be rotated 90 degrees clockwise. If anyone can suggest an easy way of attaching photos from an iPhone or iPad (i.e. one which doesn't involve uploading to dropbox, downloading to my server, hosting them there and then attaching within the MacRumors attachment manager from the URLs) then I'm all ears!

Alec

Good for you guys!

We've reached 20 units of platelets. Next stop: 60 total units of blood and platelets.

I donated on the 27th of may with fellow user Mickbab, I gave what you would call one unit of blood i guess.
I did not react too well though, after almost 400ml had been taken my vision went really blurry and i almost threw up.
I really want to find out why this was and how I could prevent it from happening if I went again, because it is something i really want to do.
If anyone has an explanation of my reaction it would be appreciated.
I have been thinking maybe blood sugar levels might have been the cause?
Also I am definitely not scared by needles or the sight of blood so this would not be a cause.
Thanks.

Another double platelet donation

I'm hooked to the machine as I type. Another double platelet donation....84 minutes later.

I also just heard that yesterday was World Blood Day.

Hope to get one more donation in by the end of June.

Mike

Sounds like your blood pressure just dropped a bit, which usually isn't a problem as most people feel slightly anxious anyway. Make sure you drink lots of water before you go and if you have problems with hypoglycemia, definitely eat something before and after

I donated one unit of blood today. It was my first time and not bad at all. I was a little nervous so my pulse was at about 120 at first but then I calmed down and they actually let me donate

Here's photographic proof (to an extent):

Donated whole blood just now. Enjoying the after donation cuppa

Will attach the photos when I upload the photos to my mac

EDIT: Uploaded photos.

Wow, I did not know MacRumors does this. Luckily, I recently donated blood last Monday. I did not take a photo but I hope this serves as proof!

Also, last Monday (coincidentally the same date I donated blood) was the Worldwide Blood Donation Day! :)

I've given blood about 4 or 5 times in my life so far, but haven't done it for over two years now. I've got some medical conditions that might exclude me now, but I'm not sure. Should probably enquire and find out so I can organise an appointment if I'm able to. There's a donation place about 5 mins from my house so I don't have much excuse beyond the medical conditions. :p

Congrats to everyone donating for the first time, and cheers to MacRumors for organising such an event, it's a great idea!

+1 for giving blood and saving lives. I really hate needles and it's an extremely stressful task, but I still do it. There's no reason to not do it unless you medically cannot give.

Me giving blood last week at the bus that comes to my office.

Today, June 28th, I gave one unit (450 ml) of whole blood, at Finnish Red Cross Blood Service here in Kokkola, Finland.

It was my eighth donation.
