I love it!

How often do websites (like Facebook) make changes that are just absolutely terrible and effectively ruin the site? I'm so happy to see MacRumors make a change that not only improves the look of the site ten-fold but improves usability and organization as well. Great work!!

The reason I don't look at the site on my iphone is the horrible design. Looks like I won't be looking at it on my computer any longer either.

I use a 27" monitor. The fonts are the size of my finger for god sake. And I can't command - to reduce font size because the page shrinks miniscule. Horrible, horrible layout. I have so much dead space on the sides of the forum. It should adjust with browser window size.

To all those saying they should bring back the vote button, please consider that they were always something driven by the community and not very good for the kind of image that the site is trying to bring. Voting adds a layer of unfairness to the mix, and that is simply not good for a news site that is supposed to be impartial.

Besides, not a single person has noted that you can vote up or down in the forums still. Basically that means the voting is still there, just limited to being only displayed in the actual forum post related to the article. This is a much better way of doing it because it seperates opinion from the front page, where news should be impartial.

Overall I love the new design. It has been needed for a long time now. The site no longer looks like it is stuck in 2003.

Yes!!! This is the first site I know of that hasn't gone to the Disqus like-only comment system upon upgrading. I'd much rather. When did the internet become so afraid of people disliking / disagreeing with things?

Edit: Hmm… but the article likes and dislikes seem to have gone away. I thought it was really interesting to see which rumors the community thought were real and which of Apple's actions they agreed / disagreed with. Please bring this back.

Agreed. All it does is shows the fanboy divisions on both sides.

I totally disagree.

When a story (like, say, the recent iOS tracking issues) comes out and gets voted very negative on a site full of fanboys, well that really means something.

You're telling me that you see fanboys voting against something Apple's done and you don't consider that notable? Because I found it facinating to see which moves Apple's fans endorsed and which ones they turned against. That's news.

And you're not just saying you don't like it, you're saying you didn't even notice it? Really? You thought they were all just 50/50 votes? That's not what I saw.

Good Work!!

You honestly dont like it? I think it is great! Very refreshing.

I think "Fluid" should be the default option as when I first saw it it looked constrained but when I found the fluid option it really looks great.

Hate to be a complainer but...the fluid option does not work properly. The page does not fill my 30" screen like it used to before. Yes, the fluid view is wider than the fixed view, but I prefer the page to fill the screen entirely -- less vertical scrolling. Right now there seems to be a pixel count limit that is set at 1280 (half the res of a 30" ACD).

Please make the fluid option truly fluid.

OMG CHANGE!
Change = Bad.
Mac Rumors = Changed.
Therefore:
MacRumors = Bad.

There, that should sum up the 9 pages of complaints I didn't read in order to make this post.

Personally, I like it. It's different, and will take some getting used to.
The only suggestion I'll make is to put something along the edges besides white. I generally browse with a fairly wide window, and white borders keeps giving me this impression that the page hasn't loaded everything. It doesn't need to be filled with content, just something.

I don't like the column thing. I want front page news that covers the whole page. I don't like distractive info in the right column… The same on the buyersguide, why frontpage news on the left. It distracts.

Other than that, great :)

I concur ("conquer" if you are Carl from the Simpsons of course) with most everyone else so far.

But...yea, my 27" has alot of white space now, even with FF only taking up 60% of my screen normally. I miss the wider MR...even using a % value instead of pixel width would be nice.

Apples site is not exactly a forum where people write lots of text which will now run a little longer down than across.

Do you really prefer to read things across rather than down? After each line your eyes would have to jump across the screen...

I think there is a reason books are printed in a vertical orientation.

I like the new design, although it seems to draw more attention to the ad slots, which may be intended. I think the old three column layout somewhat minimized the draw of the ads.

Is the forum going to get the updated look as well? Because it still looks like the old design and looks horribly out of place.

I don't like it! On big screens there is SO MUCH white border = complete waste of space. is this designed for iPad users or what?

I like the redesign. I agree with someone earlier that many redesigns completely screw things up, but this one followed Apple's mantra: keep it simple.

I would say bring the vote buttons back. It was a good way to get a quick impression of what people thought. I don't understand at all why people are against them. If you don't care about the votes, just ignore them. Period. It's not that they added any complexity to the layout or ate the cookies in your fridge.

My Two Cents...

Usually I prefer narrower, but I'm finding the longer stories on the home page harder to read. I want to stop sooner. Maybe a small increase in font size or leading?

I will miss the Vote button. I liked it because I could see at a glance if a story that struck me as, say, neutral was polarizing or extremely negative or positive to others. When the vote was a surprise to me, that was my cue to take time to read the comments and learn what caused the response of others. For me, it was one of the most useful items on the site.

Looks great! Although I think I prefer the stories to be on the right hand of the page and the other stuff on the left hand side of the page.
