Unpopular opinion: Lightning is a better connector physically than USB-C. Sure... I know why people want USB-C on an iPhone. (Standardization, faster transfer speeds, charging...etc.) But from a durability standpoint... I think Lightning is better.
Not a better connector. A MUCH better connector for a mobile device. A half dozen devices and over a million miles of travel and I have never had even one cable or port failure.

That's funny, because there's no hard evidence at all to back up this claim. USB-C cables can last just as long as a Lightning cable if well maintained. The only issue would be needing to probably clean out your port every now and then, but that has nothing to do with durability. Not to mention, Lightning cables are heavily limited by Apple. And sure, they'll probably heavily limit their USB-C ports on their phones too, but even if they do, it won't be because of the cable. It would be because they themselves chose to do so. All around, USB-C is just the better cable.

(Also, just because the lightning cable may FEEL like it's in tighter, it doesn't change anything related to the USB-C connections that work perfectly as well)

Look at the port
Look how it shines for you
And everything you do
Yeah, it was colored yellow

Apple came along
Apple designed a port for you
And all the things you do
And it was colored Yellow

🤷‍♂️

It's been a particularly long week, so thank you.

We can get high resolution photos of NASA flying helicopters on Mars, everyone here on earth has a gigapixel camera in their pocket, yet the leakers all seem to use digital cameras from 2002. Who knows what the hell this is.. it's such poor quality it could be anything.

At Newark's new airport terminal the other day, there was already a universal charging standard that powered my iPhone, my neighbour's Android phone, and my AirPods. Qi is an existing universal charging standard and the newer spec charges at or above the USB-C fast charging speed.
That won’t charge my Switch or MacBook

I would trade in each of my lightning cables in for $5 off usb-c to usb-c cables
I would trade them in for free if there was a guarantee none of it would go in a landfill or any body of water, and would be recycled responsibly.

Really gotta say I’m disappointed in USB-C as the connector. Lightning is much more robust.

USB-C on the phone has that tiny flat piece in the middle. That’s a huge point of weakness. Lightning is open all around.

Lightning never loses grip. If your phone falls, you can pull it back up from the cord for cryin out loud. USB-C weakens over time.

To Apple’s detriment, they crippled the speed of lightning, making it laughably slow. Hence in part the ruling of the EU

I have not been happy with Apple of late, and part of me really hopes they keep the speed of USB-C down to usb 2.0 speeds. Go for broke. Really cement how anti consumer they have become.

Neat. Now we can mass throw away lightning cables to help reduce waste!
Obviously you don’t understand that a one off transition is less impactful than keeping producing hundreds of millions of cables each year that eventually would end up in a landfill. This is a good change and there is no excuse for apple not having done it before being forced to do so by the European union. Thankfully the EU intervened and stopped this nonsense.

I dont know if calling Elon, Enron was a typo or on purpose but either way its a great comparison. Same house of cards just a different company.

I was working on a trading desk when the news of Enron hit and boy was it a wild few days.
Haha ok, Enron put up thousands of satellites and sent a car to Mars too haha

Needs no help as they’re already intended to go the waste bin on a regular basis anyway.

No cable is meant to last forever. At least with one standard I don’t have to spend money on Lightning when USB-C is used for almost everything else.

I agree with that, I always preferred lightening to usb c. But standardisation far outweighs the supposed durability benefits of lightening (I never have a usb c connector or port fail on me).
