I’m betting it’ll still be usb 2.0 speeds.
It'll almost certainly just be what the 14 Pro is since that is the SOC it'll be using and as little change as possible saves $$$...now the 15 Pro USB-C could be taken to a normal speed level since it'll be new as part of the base design.

Significantly lighter and minimal camera bump is my wish list. Going to be very hard to upgrade from a Mini otherwise.
The 13 mini will be good for the next couple years, no real need to upgrade.

There was no reason to prevent the iPhone 14/Plus not getting Dynamic Island. Apple needs to avoid mistakes like that in the future. I'm committed to upgrading to iPhone 15 Pro Max, but iPhone 16 Pro Max might keep me waiting.

I agree they should have included the Dynamic Island on the regular models. But I think their strategy worked. Seems like the Pro Models sold much better than the regular ones.

We can get high resolution photos of NASA flying helicopters on Mars, everyone here on earth has a gigapixel camera in their pocket, yet the leakers all seem to use digital cameras from 2002. Who knows what the hell this is.. it's such poor quality it could be anything.
From the article: Note that the published images have been edited to be lower quality as requested by the original source that shared the photos, as it makes the origin more difficult to trace.

I am looking forward to having the same cable for every device, iPhone, iPad MacBook Air, my Android work phone, Nintendo Switch. This is going to be fantastic.
I thought I really wanted this too…. But then I realized that I always charge my phone using wireless…. In fact I don’t remember the last time I plugged a cable in to my phone

Still have no idea what took Apple so long to implement this change. Maybe we will never ever find out!
The same reason any company does anything: money.

Apple owns the lighting standard so any accessory company that wants the little “made for iPhone” stamp on the box has to pay for the privilege. It’s millions of dollars of money for nothing and no public company is going to voluntarily give that up.

I wonder how (if at all) the switch to USB-C will affect Apple's MFI program. Will they have a universal port but in a proprietary implementation?

Unpopular opinion: Lightning is a better connector physically than USB-C. Sure... I know why people want USB-C on an iPhone. (Standardization, faster transfer speeds, charging...etc.) But from a durability standpoint... I think Lightning is better.
With resolutions and quality getting better and better on these phones equaling much bigger files…. Transfer speeds are very important to a lot of people. And there simply is no comparison. USB C blows lightning out of the water

Still seems a little sketchy that an almost-final sample would come out so ahead of time.
Not even the Gizmodo iPhone 4 leak was so early.
Oh well.
Product designs are finalized many many months before release. Almost a year. Think about all the parts that have to fit together. They need to be designed, tested, contracted to manufacturers, paperwork, quality checks and probably hundreds more steps that are subject to delays before they see consumers. I’m under the impression it’s a common misconception that these things that are incredibly complex are just thrown together a few weeks before they manufacture them. It’s just not so.

The dynamic island outline in the photo looks smaller than the current one? Less wide by quite a bit?
Whats more visible is the cut out for faceID. If you look closely you can see the smaller camera cut out to the right. Same as the 14.

So no physical keyboard this year huh?
Apple should integrate quirky updates like that into their product lineup. They could call it Special Edition or something. Every year a new surprise special-interest feature. People would collect them and debate their virtues endlessly.

looks still like "an iphone". 2024. Minor Upgrades (Camera, Bezel etc.) People will still buy it anyways. Android isnt better either. Same trash design, plethora of pre-installed apps, easy to install viruses and root, un-reliable apps and no value after sale. Just another year 2024. *Repeat in 2025.

I agree, there'$ no rea$on at all for Apple failing to bring new tech to their ba$e $erie$ device$ and making the price gap between the Plus/Pro phone$ $o $mall. No reason at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 48 MP sensor doesn't end up in the 15/15+ and even if it does, RAW mode in 48 MP might still be limited to Pro devices. Imagine having the same sensor but being software locked to 12 MP output only.

Someone (like Apple) aught to come up with a recycling program. There's not much copper in each cable, but not nothing either. Add up all Lightning cables ever sold, and it's probably a very substantial amount of copper.
Apple always welcome you to give them your cables. Don’t expect any compensation though.

Same here but I’m also just cautiously optimistic. They could pull an Apple and try to put some “secure verification” to where only mFi USB C chargers work (if that is allowed under the EU law, that is.)
