No doubt that many of the underlying features like this were sorely missing from the old vbulletin software. The quick replies, the quoting and tagging features, the alerts, the ability to get a quick preview of a thread with a mouse hover, etc. are all welcomed!

Here's my list of changes
_ vertical center the post date
_ shrink the height of the date bar, the 'New' button is useless. You could even remove this bar altogether (white background)
_ refine (thinner) the top post blue line
_ the style of quoted text looks out of place (very different style than the rest)
_ use the colours of the logo for some elements!

What I don't understand is why they didn't do that assessment before launching the new site. ... Sure, they're building some of those features back now, but how many people will they lose in the meantime?
I don't have the answer to the "why" and even if I did it wouldn't make any difference at this point in time except to satisfy curiosity. The most beneficial thing that we as users can do now is to have patience and continue to report issues. If we dwell too long on problems we risk robbing ourselves of the ability to move forward.

Bigger font option would be nice. I like to hold my iPhone down in my lap sometimes and my eyes could do with a zoom feature :)

As well as a custom theme. Black with white ink may help.

I agree that they are doing a really good job of taking feedback into account, and acting upon it. What I don't understand is why they didn't do that assessment before launching the new site.

Members were offered an open invite to test out the new forum three weeks ago, to provide feedback and submit suggestions before it launched but only a small group of members responded. We are obviously getting a lot more feedback and suggestions now it is live. :)

Yeah you're right! I've just zoomed out to 90% on Chrome and think it looks/feels much better!

There was probably a specific plugin used with the new platform as indicated to allow the auto-sizing on different devices/different browsers as is being experienced. This way a uniform new experience is felt across the board and the background site platform software can remain company/device agnostic.

We recently executed a similar change to our own company website during a recent conversion to make all of our websites features "more accessible to more people on more devices using more software"

I was involved in the test site as soon as I was made aware of its availability. What I'm talking about though isn't really what I saw there. In that case, the test site was already largely built, and they were looking for bugs and feedback on specific rendering problems (for example, in IE, my primary browser that I browse this forum through, the test forum didn't render in any recognizable form until just a few days before it went live). What I'm talking about is more an assessment, done primarily by the site owners and editors, of the existing features and styles of the site that should be retained in any move forward, and then, perhaps, having that list vetted by some group of users to make sure they weren't missing anything big. It seems to me like very little of that was done. The appearance is as if a design firm was hired that wasn't at all familiar with the site as it was, or the customizations that made coming here unique as compared to competing sites.

Okay after using it for a while, some thoughts. The ability to easily see when the OP posts in a thread is missed. The white is a little blinding after some use, just a slight bit darker I think would be easier on the eyes. Also, I may be really slow here, but I don't see any way to see when a new post is made on the main page? I used to like seeing the latest posts in whatever forum and going to those specifically, then marking the rest I wasn't interested in as read. Now it seems you have to open up each individual forum to see if there are any new posts? Again, unless I'm just being really slow. The latest replies window is sort of there, but not really the same thing because it just lists everything (and not just the forums I'm interested in).

Also, is there a way to introduce a Cmd+Enter shortcut to post when you're in quick reply?
Also part 2, is there any way to make "mark as read" a drop down instead of a whole new page? I like it being a quick action rather than multiple clicks and pages ahead.

Otherwise, yeah, really enjoy what you guys have done. Kudos.

Please make it HTTPS all the time.

Seems like the older format squeezed more into the same size area - this seems quite spread out - now I see 2 1/2 posts a screen instead of 3 or 4.

Otherwise its okay.

How is objectively arguing what in detail makes it harder to read it not nuance? Again, people complaining here are not disliking the looks per their taste. In this context here, the looks/aesthetics don't follow function, but vice versa. They say it is hard to read, hard to scroll, etc.
They complain about the look organizes things!

I can't understand how a forum staff member (arn) can like/up-vote a post that is just ridiculing other people, that have well and objectively stated, what their reason of concern is. This is like an admin encouraging people to not follow netiquette.

you TOTALLY missed the point of my post. i wasn't talking about the look of the site at all - i ignored all that - it was tangential from the article, which linked to comments from 2001 regarding the iPod.

it was about people not being able to wrap their heads around apple and making really bad predictions. kinda like today.

Xenforo is what we use at UnionVGF.com. It's, by far, the most visually appealing forum software to use. There are some great styles available for it. Audentio is one of the best style developers there is for Xenforo and you made a right choice using them.

When you make a reply. And/or a multi reply but change your mind. When you come back later it's still in the reply box at the bottom of ge screen. Is this intentional design or a feature? haha

@Zxxv it's intentional - it's saving your draft. One of the positive features of moving to the new platform.

seriously though I know there are these new red up down arrows in the bottom corner kind of both hidden and at the same time distracting but you should also put a 'Reply' fixed button a the top of the page before the first post that takes you to the reply entry box at the bottom of the page. It is just the place and way people expect to see it. Other then that I like the new look for the most part.

Looks good! The design is modern and feels fresh. Question, is there a way to go straight to a new/unread post for the mobile layout? I see the option on iPad and laptop but not for phones.

I'll never understand comments like these. You're doing the very thing you just told others to stop doing: expressing an opinion. One could also post, "Stop liking, this is a terrible upgrade. boo, arn"

i'll never understand why people don't want to make the internet a more positive place. when was the last time you walked up to a stranger and said 'your shirt is god-awful, you're a moron for wearing it' or 'your website is ugly, what a monstrosity! i hate it, Person i've Never Met!!!'

i'm not saying the internet should be negativity free, i'm just saying barely anyone picks their battles. no one actually thinks 'does this REALLY affect my way of life, or am i just being a jackazz?'

negativity has a place and is an essential tool for change. but people seem to be so narcissistic on the internet, 'change' just amounts to 'do what i want the way i want it or i'm a very vocally unhappy person and everyone should know this.'

someone even mentioned this new redesign sacrifices function for form, and yet another mentioned jony ive. i have yet to notice how either of these are based in reality.

I guess it's ok, so long as it doesn't carry over into another topic where you hit multi/quote reply and have to then sift through everything to undo it.
