How do I turn off email for every time someone posts in here ? I seem to be getting email for each post in here.

Flag at top right of page > Preferences in side bar > uncheck "Automatically watch threads that you create or when you reply..."

Seems a point of confusion.

When you reply to a thread, it automatically signs you up to "watch" a thread and receive an email when someone replies.

1. You can turn off this in your user panel / preferences. Uncheck sign up for email.
2. To unsubscribe to all your existing emails (including this thread) there's a link at the bottom of the email or go to watched threads, there all, then unsubscribe.

Now I KNOW I'm getting old! I'm finding this new format difficult to navigate. I'm sure these things must have been discussed somewhere, but I'm having a tough time finding things. Here are a few observations.

  1. I can't seem to find a way to view threads in reverse order, where the most recent posts are first.
  2. I really miss Forum Spy, with its ability to filter out forums I'm not interested in.
  3. It appears that the migration lost most of my subscribed threads, or the new forum software limits the number of threads you can subscribe to.
  4. I click on Watched Threads, but many of the posts that appear first are weeks old, even though I know there is more recent activity in threads I've been participating in. (May be a result of 3.)
I'm sure there will be more as I explore, and I know this disorientation is temporary ... or maybe I've just blown a gasket! :)

Seeing what seems to be a bug. On the main forums page, I get a login button but when I click it I get a security error. When I go into some posts, I see that I AM signed in (seems to be ones I've participated in but this one showed me as logged in also). I had to reply to this post from page 8, when I clicked on page 9 it thought I was no longer logged in.

You'll have to clear your safari cache and cookies and then re-login.

Ok, here is a flaw: I discovered that &$?#*3 no longer seemed to be on my ignore list. So, I clicked on the poster name and put &$?#*3 back on my ignore list. Before, I could see a stripe where &$?#*3 had posted, and I had the option of looking at the post (which occasionally I would do). Now there is nothing. I saw the thread go post #11->13->15 with no indication that there was any post there at all.

I think this is not an improvement.

Is there any way to have the old forum look back? I thought the old forum look was just fine and highly prefer it. I know some may like the new look so I'm hoping there is simply an option to change back, and the others who like the new look can continue to use it.

FYI some of the things I don't like in case anyone is interested:

How many pages a thread is, it's not viewable anymore and requires a mouse hover. Unfortunately browsing it with my tablet is terrible, I can't see how many pages a thread is and can't see if there are any new pages since I last visited because I'm on a tablet and have no mouse hover. PLEASE developers run this forum on a tablet using touch input and tell me it isn't a major pita to use. I used to be able to just click on the bolded last page number under a thread title. I know it brings you to the first unread, but sometimes you want to navigate a thread quickly by pages. I'm not a programmer, is it difficult to just make the page numbers always visible?

Circular avatars are butt ugly and cut off most people's avatars unless they are specifically round. I'm not sure why this was changed, it serves no functional purpose and aesthetically just looks terrible with all that white space around it.

Why so much white on off white? Do the developers ever use their computers at night or into the dark? Are they comfortable with all that brightness in their face? Thankfully in Windows I can enable a high contrast mode which doesn't change graphics. Still though not all elements work in high contrast mode so it can be a pita.

New Posts is pretty much Forum Spy, Mr. Oldie, but I don't think you can filter stuff out.

Hope you have some remaining functioning gaskets.

Hmmmm... truncated and greyed out quotes (look at the end of the quote, if it's long).

That will go over well in some sections!

Yes, I see the up-arrow.

If that's the case, New Posts is a poor substitute for Forum Spy. With New Posts, you have to keep refreshing the page to see the newest posts, unlike Forum Spy, which would scroll posts as they appeared. Also, losing the ability to review recent posts in all watched forums without having to see posts from forums you're not interested in is a major setback.

Look at the bottom of the quote. There is a very, very faint "click to expand" thingy there.

Some CSS tweaking needs to be done, for sure.

Nice improvement on my iPhone but the lack of borders between posts on the computer I'm not used to. The contrast of the green used here is also better than some of the other sub-forums.

I actually prefer New Posts, as the Spy kept racing away when I wanted to tap on a link.

I hope you manage to adapt and don't blow another gasket.

Yes, that fast scrolling was avoided by excluding forums like Apple Watch, especially during product introduction or release times.
I hope you manage to adapt and don't blow another gasket.
I'm sure I'll manage to catch up, as I have so few gaskets left!
