That's not a user preference. The reasoning was that the forums move so fast that it didn't seem that useful. I can understand for subforums, but did you use it on main forums too?

arn

I liked it, to see if any topics caught my eye. Maybe I'm the only one though.

Circular Avatar Fix

Add the following to your user stylesheet:

Code:
.avatar img{
	-webkit-border-radius: 0 !important;
	-moz-border-radius: 0 !important;
	-khtml-border-radius: 0 !important;
	border-radius: 0 !important;
}

On mine I have the corners rounded slightly, just by replacing "0" with "3px".

it hard to read text on the all white..a more creamish grey like we have right now is really good. And the username under the thread title is distracting to read the topic because of the same font color and almost same size.

Image viewing behaviours: a comparison

Clicking anywhere on the expanded image …

Anyone, please compare behaviours at these two URLs:

Behaviours in response to clicks on views of images are smarter in the xenforo.com/community area.

Postscript – correction

Sorry, I originally gave the wrong URL for (b). I wrote http://xenforums.macrumors.com/threads/test.1880069/#post-21248603 I should have written http://xenforums.macrumors.com/threads/test.1880069/#post-21248614 … now corrected.

I was in two minds about whether to post that myself or not... remember, if you do this then it'll only affect you, and everyone else will still see the rounded avatar. Try to make sure it looks OK when rounded :)

And for what it's worth, the unprefixed border-radius seems to be sufficient (at least in Safari).

image is too big on the first one. Cant view on screen.

second link is ok but wasted space. Its like I have a 13" macbook air but I'm really on a 8"

why why why?

on this forum screen is maximised and used. It looks way better.

And the (softer) colors on the second link are meh to me though the harsh lines on this one are beginning to stand out (now)

I don't know whats the point :D

No hint of pinning in search results

With these example search results, whilst I know (from personal familiarity) which one of the five is pinned, there's no on-screen hint to show that the pinned topic is, in this case, at the bottom.

Behaviours at https://xenforo.com/community/media/img_0928.169/

image is too big … Cant view on screen …

Here, with 1,920 x 1,200 (MacBookPro5,2, 17") the entire image is on screen both before and after the first click on the image.

Alternatively, when I click the intuitive magnifying glass icon 'Full Size Media' I get full size media, scaled so it's entirely on screen. The scaling down ceases when I click with the magnifying glass pointer.

yea thats taking up the full width of the screen, just the image is not scaled properly/decently. see comment bellow.

When I click the image it appears onscreen fully. Just when viewing the topic is scaled too big for my screen so I have to scroll to see it all, up down which is not pleasant at all.

I've just been browsing the new forum new posts and I don't like it as its jarring on my eyes/mind. I prefer the look on this forum as its consistent and easy to read. Why does the new forum need to look like a zebra?

It's definitely more responsive on my iPad 3. I also like the quick navigation menu.

I don't care for the new quote style, the heading (tan) box is unnecessarily large and I think it looks better when the entire quote is in one colored box, but that's just my opinion.

I agree. I liked to scan them too.

I also wish it showed sub forums for the Special Interest section.

For example, it just says "Visiual Media" and I have to tap the folder icon to see the sum forums.

Woah! Well uhm... that will take a while to get used to :p

Ok well... it's nice so far but one thing that really bugs me is the arrows box thing popping up in the lower left corner.

yeah, i can see those arrows slowly making me go mad enough to murder the closest person to me. if you can't use home/end keys to navigate, then get off internet!

Silent search failures

… snapshot of our current forums from May 8th …

In the established forum and in the test forum, seek the following words:

measurements presented GoSquared

In the established forum there are two matches, both within the timeframe of the snapshot. The second is an exact match for each word but there's no highlighting, maybe because the word matches are within the title of a reply.

In the test forum, no matches are found.

If content is properly indexed, then failure to find the matching words at http://xenforums.macrumors.com/threads/is-yosemite-really-that-bad.1860215/page-7#post-21210094 is a bug.

everyone gets an avatar?

is this a dream? is this real life?

Sorry, we meant to say that everyone but you gets an avatar! ;)

When this was a smaller community, recognizing the core group of most established members was more important, and frequent image fetching was a bandwidh concern. Things are different these days. With hundreds of thousands of members, any clue to help you recognize other members is welcome.

Legibility of quoted texts; appearance of poll results and voters' identities

… the first post looks nice.

Thanks. Still, I dislike the forced use of italics for quoted text. Upright is more legible.

In the test area, is that poll open?

Appearance of polls

I prefer the appearance in vBulletin, especially when viewing results of polls and identities of voters.

Some comparisons (spoiler alert) – attention, please, to the results of each poll:

agreed. The forced use of small width is spoiling the poll on the new forum. Why oh why did we buy bigger devices just to be forced to be made to look as if we are using smaller devices? the world has gone crazy the patients have taken over the asylum haha

In the Xenforo community forum the image has an X at the upper right to exit the expanded image that is not present in the MR version for some reason.

Just looked at forum on my iPhone in Safari. It's all set up for that isn't it with little if any regard to computers eg my MacBook Air.

I like the round avatars.

I'm concerned about the touch targets for the "jump to first unread post" links in the list of threads. Everything else looks like it was made with touch in mind, except for these super tiny barely visible blue dots. Are those adjustable somehow? They just seem incongruous with the rest of the design.

And, yes, the theme is designed for iPhones and iPads and other mobile devices and not so much traditional computers. Sorry, but that's the way the world is going.
