well, that's where we disagree. I think one's about fair play and the other isn't.

I could do 100+ in a week if I really had to. But I have a training plan and a busy life, and no online challenge could possibly be worth my compromising those things to the degree that it would take to run 100+ miles in a week.

If both of us decided to go completely all out? I have no idea who would win. But it would be a really, really bad idea.

all i have to say is that i could run however much it took, while not uploading so you didn't know what i was doing.

but i'm not that type of person.

and like you said, it's a really bad idea. i'm not gonna do it.

i really don't see why we keep arguing over these petty things. just go run

Thanks for the welcome and encouragement. I'll make sure to send ziwi a pm with my email address.

I don't know of a way to make your iPod beep. I simply look at the time on the iPod itself and use that as a guide. I carry it in my hand, so it's not a problem. I tend to look at it to gauge when my pace is too fast etc.

As for the couch-to-5K program. Up through week 3, keeping track of your progress is very easy. Starting in week 4, though, it might get interesting as it starts mixing up the runs and walks with differing times for each. I may actually have to bring a cheat-sheet with me so I don't forget what comes next. Tonight I accidently did a 90-second-run-then-90-second-walk segment twice.....and what was I thinking about when I screwed it up? YOUR post asking about how you keep track of the time!! :p Oh well!!

Get out there, and remember: Beat the pavement like it owes you money!:D

Planning on starting the couch-to5k program tonight so I was looking for the schedule and and discovered that someone has recorded pod-casts for each run which look like they contain all the timings - so no clock watching. No idea what the music is like as I'm at work so can't really have a listen. Don't blame me if its terrible!

Hope that helps JimmyDreams.

yes you could. the only difference is that's not as much of a change for you....

Wow, you're really spoiling for a fight, aren't you?

Running 100+ miles would be a big change for me. But I assume you're talking about the uploading again.

If you want to pretend that my uploading a couple of moderate length runs every 2 or 3 days is the same as uploading a 100 mile week all at once then go right ahead.

And if you're going to keep complaining about this issue you might at least upload your own runs every day. Don't tell me you do, because I've been watching the challenges, and you don't.

no, i'm not looking for a fight. but i won't back down either.

running that much would be a big change for me as well, and not in my best interest. and you're right, it's not what i was referring to.

i'm only keeping up with this issue b/c you keep up the walking issue. as far as real rules go, there are no rules against when you upload, or if you run or walk. so technically, these are very similar debates.

but i do upload everyday if i can. i know i did all last week. sometimes it does take awhile for it to show up in the challenges

Alright, I'm done arguing. This isn't going anywhere and it's getting annoying.

Let's have a good last week of November running everyone. :)

is the challenges widget working for anyone? It used to work for me... then it started requiring me to log in every time I wanted to see the progress... now it won't show me the progress at all (thinks I'm not in a challenge). Is this just me?

i don't know. i never did like those widgets that much. they seemed to only work half the time for me. so i stopped using them.

maybe they will update them soon

Don't work for me either. I downloaded them earlier to see what they were like but they both gave the message that I needed to have Challenge / Goal. I had a look in the Nike+ forums and from this thread it seems they've been like that for quite a while.

ah, thanks - good to know it's not just me. Hopefully they'll actually fix this, as it's a known issue.

yeah, hopefully they'll just start over from scratch on them also. or at least get them working properly. maybe Apple should help them out

I'd like to think that they'd fix them but it seems like they've been broken for a while so I'm not overly optimistic. I wouldn't think it's a major thing to get them working if they did before, but I guess they're just not that fussed about sorting them out. Wonder if the windows versions work?

Started the Couch to 5k program tonight.

I used these podcasts: http://www.podcasts.ullreys.net/

They are brilliant. The guy on there tells you when to walk and when to run so no looking at a watch or repeatedly hitting the centre button.

The music is mainly generic dance/house. Not very exciting but not offensive and it does the job - having some talking to you and urging you on is a real help. Can't say it was a walk the park but it certainly made it much easier.

Even got Paul Radcliff at the end telling me it was my longest work out (time and distance) :)

I'm actually looking forward to my next run on Thursday!

ya, seriously. Come on nike - it's a couple of widgets!

yeah i know. it seems nike+ isn't at the top of their list

good job! very glad to hear you found something that is working for. it makes a difference when you're exciting about doing something.

hope everything continues to go well for you. keep us updated :)

I just started the Ullrey "Couch to 5K" as well, but I decided to start on week 3 (is that cheating?). I agree - good idea, decent execution. The music is fine - nondescript techno with a beat that's a little off my stride, but I can deal with that. Cheers to whoever suggested that first.

So my question to those of you that run a good bit more than me - can I still walk on my off days with my wife, or should I not be doing anything? I'm used to running 2~3 miles every morning and walking 2 miles with her in the evening most days, but this plan tells me to take a day off between workouts. Can anyone clear up for me what constitutes a "day off"?

Walking a few miles can certainly still count as a "day off." :) The idea is to not engage in anything so strenuous that it would make it harder to run on the next scheduled day. I think a walk of a couple of miles might actually keep you loose and help you feel better on your next run, so go right ahead!

yeah i agree here, especially if you are used to walking anyways. walking is good for any athlete, no matter what shape they're in.

Guys can I be added to the next set of Challenges? I was involved in the early days but haven't been running for months.... I need some motivation! I started again on Monday but need to join some challenges... I joined a couple on the Nike+ site like US vs Europe but I did enjoy the 'banter' of the MacRumors ones!

I'm sreedy25 on the nike+ site.

Are there any ongoing or are they just about to end and start again in Dec?

glad to have you back! ;)

i'm sure ziwi will see this and send you an invite to the next group of challenges. we are doing things a little differently than before, but i'm sure you'll like them. the current challenges end in just a couple of days, so you're just in time for the next bunch.

cheers ;)
