My only comment would be the difficulty of navigating out of threads and in and out of individual forums. It would be nice if the links for navigation appeared at the bottom of the thread versus the top (or both).

www.dpreview.com does an excellent job in this area.

Otherwise, I think everything else is perfect. :)

Colors are very neutrual and don't get in the way of what is more important which is the content. It may be a personal preferance, but I feel they are fairly pastel and watered down though. What I would like to see is a better color coating system. Color is an amazing thing!! Bring in some nice color to headings to set apart articles, categories, make it easier to navigate through, etc. Also by using nicer colors the text will pop better and be easier to read/notice quickly. In reply to the comment about bringing in aqua, mac style coloring, I think that, that is overdone as well, but we do need to relate to apple better. Apple is a very colorful/creative company!

Layout is nailed pretty close, everyone is pretty used to it anyways and it wouldn't need to be changed much. I just feel that everything else that comes along with it needs a REFRESH!

If you want to try some different colors out/mock up... I'm willing to listen.

When I did the site refresh, it was hard to settle on colors. It was hard to get used to stronger colors. but I'm open for suggestions

Brighter blues and reds, sounds good to me, the colours are a little dull at the moment, sorry.

I will draw up what I have floating around in my head, and post a link in a couple of days. At the least it will be entertaining, but I think some awesome things could be done simply.

Didn't want to make a new thread, and this is sorta related to this:

On the URL bar at Macrumors.com the Macrumors logo is there, but when you go to one of the subdomains (forums.macrumors.com; buyersguide.macrumors.com, etc) the vBullentin logo is there instead. Any reason for this? Is it possible to have them all have the Macrumors logo?

Just thought I point that out. :) No biggy.

It's fine the way it is, slight tweaks and refinements maybe.

But, readability and ease on the eyes is quite significant compared to the flashier sites.

Heck, we complain about annoyingly colorful and obnoxious signatures and tars.

What would happen if that was the normal forum skin/style.

Maybe they can point to some skins/styles for vBulletin that are more like what they are thinking.

I love the site the way it is. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

When I redesigned my own site, I discovered that Safari, has a small bug regarding the display of Address Bar icons. If you change the *.ico file, Safari will not recognise the new one, and insists on showing the old one. This drove me nut's for ages, untill I discovered that Safari had this problem, the answer is to use a little freeware app called Safari Icon Manager, to delete the one that Safari has in it's cache.

You can get it from version tracker

Just go to Safari->Empty Cache .....

Please Arn, don't go for any "brighter" colours... The site is fine just as it is, colourwise... any brighter would just be streneuous after a (short) while...

I agree with an earlier poster that the navigational row, with User CP, FAQ... New Posts etc. could be Bold (or a bit bigger), but other than that this site is a haven on a really overdesigned web...

Doesn't help, but it's easy to fix: Quit Safari, delete the contents of ~/Library/Safari/Icons/ and restart Safari... all favicons gone... ;)

If this site changes because of someone not liking it, I will boycott MR.

Well instead of just talking about it, why don't we just create mockups of some ideas we have? I know I will.

As for the site, it's ok I guess, but it's really nothing that sets it apart from any other site... The dull colors remind me of pre-XP Windows, personally -

Thar be swabbies among us who want t' subversively change th' look an' feel o' MacRumors. I will nay stand fer it. If th' colors change, legibility will suffer in th' name o' design? Nay. They's way it be set up now, it be muted an' very easy on th' eyes. Th' lack o' graphic buttons means th' site loads faster an' wi' less visual clutter. I`m sorry but ye be mistaken if this site ought e'er change.

Ah, that's good to know...
For an example of what not to do, look here: Linkety. The colors and site design aren't the greatest... they do use vB software however.

What do you guys think of a design like this? I really tried hard to make it non-flashy, maclike yet non-aqua, and easy on 56kers all at the same time -

Check it out here

Comments?

A bit too harsh on the eye... the angles and everything, not the colors.

I think that looks really nice! Something similar to that would be great here!

This is harsh on the eyes...

At least tweaking the styles is probably more sane than going for a full skin makeover.
