Jobs knows that Apple Inc.'s primary responsibility is to its shareholders, not to little fanbois, nor to people like you or me.

As a matter of fact, based on Apple's financial performance over the past 5-10 years, I think Jobs has reacted better than any other S&P 500 CEO during that time.

I will agree with you that money isn't everything. You definitely nailed that one! :)

Money DOES help resolve a LOT of problems and it allows choices. Can't argue with that.

I'm unsure about Jobs' responsibility to investors though. For many years investors in the large part ignored Apple - recall Steve had someone else in charge when the IPO was announced & official and was ousted. However I completely agree as a CEO and Apple as a team they've done GREAT; first best move: iMac, then iPod, going Intel! That Intel move helped the fanboys and juiced up the investors sweet spot like sugar addicts.

I think its time I figure out how to purchase some stock directly (via online trades). I think its set to go north of $350 in less than 8mths.

Make this stock purchaing part of iTunes. That could be big :).

last two days the worst...

do PC people feel this way when the know Balmer is gonna pull a monkey boy soon???:rolleyes:

Really? People think there will be NO mention of anything Mac? Sorry, I just don't see that happening at all. It may be small, but I honestly expect at least one Mac hardware update.

Two hours is a long time, surely at least 15-20 minutes can be set aside for the Mac... I'm sure there will be a TON of disagreement on this, but who really even knows? Exactly. We'll just see on Monday. :)

That's fine, we were counting on you!

Thanks,

AAPL shareholder

God, you are a f n douche bag! Do you need to mention that you are an Apple share holder in every thread you post in? Why do you constantly feel the need to state this over and over? Go flaunt it on Yahoo finance! Spell fanboy right also.

1. Yes
2. iPod is usually the subject of a September announcement, not WWDC in June. Predicting AppleTV is tough. My guess is that there will be no mention of AppleTV at this keynote.
3. No, some people will be pleased. In the long run, AAPL shareholders will probably be pleased. A lot of fanbois here aren't shareholders though. Shame. They could probably finance their Apple hardware purchases if they had decided to be a part-owner. Oh well.
4. MR will provide excellent coverage of the event itself, of whining non-shareholder fanbois, or possibly both.
5. Good luck.

Yeah, September is always iPod month. Just added it in for completion :p

And of course shareholders will be pleased -- but this website contains mostly fanboys, who are never pleased!

Imagine if instead of buying my first iPod (3rd gen) I used the money to buy AAPL stock...damn.

Stating that I am an AAPL shareholder is relevant to most MacRumors threads because most discussions revolved around what Apple should or shouldn't do, particularly regarding product roadmaps and releases.

When you are A (PART) OWNER of the company, you will look at the situation with an eye for something that WILL MAKE MONEY.

That's basically how Apple's senior management team will assess potential forks in the road. That's why they didn't get into the low-margin netbook business: very little benefit to shareholders. Apple is very careful about limiting their activities to very high-margin markets. Their worldwide phone sales are marginal (a few percent) and yet they are raking in something like 30% of the industry's total profits, simply because they are focusing on the most profitable sectors.

Too many people here don't see things from a business perspective. If they were shareholders, they'd probably see things differently.

Some day, you might actually invest in a business and you'll start seeing things from a different perspective.

I did not invest in AAPL for charitable nor sentimental reasons. I invested in the company to make money. If I sense that there is a better place for me to invest my money, I will take it out of AAPL and put it somewhere else.

Right now though, there is no other S&P 500 component that is anticipated to do better.

I suggest you read some of Apple's SEC filings as well as those of their competitors. They're all freely available. No one pointed a gun at my head at told me to invest in AAPL. If you think your money should go somewhere else, that's fine.

It has happened before, believe me. People are pissed off, too, when this happens.

Reports of Steve's demise....

Were grealy exaggerated...

Long live the spoilers!!!

I want my 4G iPhone!

My 3Gs succession planning... give it to the missus...
:D

Hopefully this isn't the case on Monday. We'll just have to wait and see.
I expect minor Mac announcements. This past week, the rumor sites have been speculating about a Mac mini update. Apparently, all outstanding orders have delayed fulfillment dates. That's typical when Apple is moving to a new model.

Frankly, I don't expect Steve to mention the Mac mini at all in the keynote. It would likely show up online at Apple.com, the Apple Store (and retail partners) alongside a press release.

With as big a deal as these things are, I'm still surprised they aren't broadcasting live. Especially if they let the TV networks re-broadcast portions, it could really give them some huge play.

If the government can do it (and well: wh.gov), Google and Microsoft too, Apple seems behind-the-times. Might also free up some seats for REAL developers to attend instead of flooding the place with reporters and blogers.

Apple gets better focus from the live non-broadcasted event.

If you're a tech blogger, are you going to be more focused if you're in a room with Steve Jobs, or if you periodically walk to your computer to watch the videocast while you're doing laundry?

Remember, reaching ten thousand fanbois with a live video stream of a press event will do nothing to increase Apple's sales. You can say that developers who can't make it to WWDC should be able to hear the keynote, but in reality, there's very little that can't be summarized in a short article or video summary a few hours later.

Apple has this one figured out right.

Perhaps, but I doubt it.

Buying stock isn't difficult. You mail in a check whatever online brokerage you choose, or you walk into the local Fidelity/E-Trade/Schwab office and ask to open an account if you want to save the postage. Provide your Social Security Number (for tax purposes). I don't know if there's anything else these days; it's been a really long time since I opened a new brokerage account.

That said, AAPL is not a particularly popular holding with retail investors; the majority of AAPL investors are mutual funds, institutional investors, and index funds. (Clearly, it is not held by most of this forum's participants.)

Odd, it seems like so many forum commenters would just die to be able to work at Apple, yet so few care about owning part of the company (Apple employees are typically given some stock options when hired), especially because the stock performs so crushingly well. One year target price from at least one reputable analyst (Brian Marshall, BroadPoint) is $350.

What exactly is the spoiler free stream?

Here's the spoiler free introduction:
"Click here for Steve Jobs' keynote at the 2010 WWDC"

Here's the non-spoiler free introduction:
"Click here for Steve Jobs' announcement at the 2010 WWDC that the iPhone will have a physical keyboard, that Xcode 4 will run on Windows, and that all of the "NS" prefixes in Cocoa will be replaced by "SJ".
