"The MacBook Pro needs some new hardware as well, but that could be updated silently"

And tomorrow, please!
... you know how many people would be returning unopened Apple products (folks saving as Christmas gifts) if Apple refreshed, renewed, updated ANY major Apple product before Christmas?? Think about it... between Thanksgiving and Christmas, Apple is just going to stay quite and empty inventory. Besides, they're still a little uneasy from the iPhone rebates.

I'll just take some wild guesses rather than rational ones:

MacBook Mini - $599 Starting price, lower performance than a regular MacBook, no built-in DVD drive ($149 extra), perfect for schools
That would be awesome!

Mac mini won't get an update at macworld because they hate the mini. They didn't even mention it until the Q&A when it was updated with the imacs a few months ago.

I think we'll see/hear more about the iphone SDK.

New mac pros seem likely... but if they're getting updated on stage, it needs to be a fairly impressive update. New chips and new graphics cards are great, but they make for a lousy presentation.

IMO the big news (one more thing?) will be the thin macbook/pro.

And we'll see a preview of OS 10.6 HouseCat! :D

I think we will see silent upgrades for both the MBP and MP...like others have said, it seems like Keynotes are only for new or significantly revamped products, not simply speed bumps and the like. My personal opinion is that if the MP is just getting bumped speeds and better graphics etc then it will not be on stage--if there is a redesigned case plus some surprises, then I suspect it might get an honorable mention--same with the MBP though I think it would be less so.

I don't foresee the MBP getting anything significant, I think it will be a quiet upgrade to Penryn and that's about it. I think we will have to wait probably until next year until we see the MBP up on stage. I also think the big new product is gonna have to be this slimbook or slim MBP or tablet or whatever the hell it ends up being. I don't think we'll see a MB upgrade, quiet or otherwise until next May-ish. It might get a total redisign at 2009's MWSF.

New Apple TV, new iTunes and no new iPhone till the middle of next year, it would be incredibly retarded for Apple to deliver a new iPhone (even if concept) just a month and a half after the European release. People talking about a new iPhone in January are completely deluded.

As much as I'd love to see that happen, no chance before Macworld. Apple would not let anything else detract from their gala event.

Indeed. Apple would probably have a bigger headache from returns and complaints if they released silent updates now or before Christmas.

That said, the wait is hard to bear. I'm right at the edge man

Maybe not to you, but it's a big deal to a lot of people here. It's the oldest piece of hardware in the lineup.

Ignore those who speak out of their asses. They don't venture into the Mac Pro forums enough to anything about what is happening. All they know are consumer chips, misspellings of Intel chip family names, how to put RAM in (even that is questionable) and maybe a hard drive if you make it easy enough (ala Macbook). When it comes to hardware, they know next to nothing and it is apparent when they minimize Xeon Penryns as a "not a big deal," yet when it comes to the consumer Macs (everything else) getting Penryn it is the biggest thing that ever happened.

Seems like a really tough position for Apple to be in, based on what I've read here. People are starting threads to make predictions, and most are expecting big, revolutionary stuff. Hopefully, that will happen, but how many bullets do they have in the chamber?

It seems to me that Apple is the type of company to do two things:

1. Come out with new, innovative products.

2. Make their existing, successful products even better.

If that's the case, don't hold your breath for a major update to the Mac Pro, Mac Mini or AppleTV. They simply don't sell. Don't get me wrong... I own a Mac Pro and and Apple TV, and love them both. I just don't think they get a lot of attention. On the other hand, people flock to the notebooks, iMacs, iPods and iPhones. I see them doing something to carry on the momentum of those products.

iMacs and iPods have recently been refreshed, so I'm not expecting much there.

I think the iPhone will get a capacity bump. The iPod touch is already at 16 GB, so there's no reason the iPhone can't be too.

I'm also hoping for the 3G network for the iPhone. But I'm also nervous that they might not do it just yet. They experienced a lot of backlash from the quick price drop. It may still be too fast to tell all their early adopters that, if they would have waited a few months, they could have had 3G.

I do believe that iTunes movie rentals will be announced, and be big.

At any rate, I think it will center around iPhone and iTunes. Maybe (hopefully) a new Mac.

safe bets:
mac pro update
macbook pro update
some type of software change, like an updated .mac or whatever
iPhone software improvement

less safe bets:
mac pro enclosure change
new displays
itunes movie rentals
atv update
mac mini update

long shots:
tablet mac
mac mini discontinued
mid level desktop
some other brand new piece of hardware

And as for the keynote itself, the surest bet of all is that there'll be a lot of blah, blah, blah, about leopard and how many zillions of things apple sold and how successful everything is.

Do you think that we will see a new ipod remote or a new Airport express at Macworld?

My prediction is af
New Itunes ( rentals and HD material)
new Macbook Pro and
a new Apple TV (maybe with bigger HD and 1080p out, plus 5.1 out)
Maybe a new Iphone

You know how sarcastic that was?

With no MacPro update yet, it's more and more likely
that will be introduced at MWSF08.

I'm starting to think (hopefully) that the whole Pro line will get attention, so updates will be:

MacPro
Macbook Pro
Xserve

i don't see any major iphone updates since it was released today that 3g will not be released until the late part of 08 so i think all the focus will be on the computer lineup (hopefully anyway) maybe new ipod colors too for fun :D

Maybe something like this........... I found it on flickr

I would pay $2000 for that. Bring it on.

It happens every year; people dream big and expect Apple to deliver the world to them. Macworld expo comes, people are mad that it didn't live up to their expectations. Then it all starts over again for the next time. Either people are really slow learners or they just enjoy playing the game...

...don't hold your breath for a major update to the Mac Pro, Mac Mini or AppleTV. They simply don't sell.

I'm not sure where you got your info from, but the Mac Pro is a big seller. It's aimed toward the professional market rather than the consumer market, so walk into any film studio, recording studio, graphic design house, etc. and you will see at least one there.

... well, all I really care about is the MacPro, really.

I think it's a new influx of newbies to the forums. Them and a bunch of new complainer that want to just start trouble.

Amen... the Mac Pro not selling is just wrong. It's the only pro tower that Apple has. The Apple TV and Mini may be the non sellers, but the Mac Pro is still a hit, even with 16 month old technology.

Same here, and a MacBook Pro update as well.

Agree with this but would add the rumored macbook pro "mini" somewhere up there as well as possible airport extreme support for time machine (please god, please) although its a longshot

1. iTunes Store Updates
- Movie Rentals
- HD Content (maybe)

2. iPhone Update & SDK

3. AppleTV Software Update

4. Update to Apple Cinema Displays
- new thinner display enclosures

5. Redesigned MacBook
- Apple is so over the 'plastic white' look expect migration over to Aluminum

6. New Ultraportable
- We know that Apple is working on a Tablet so I would not be surprised if Apple's ultraportable is a convertible Tablet PC.

Other stuff: MacPro update, refinement of MBP design.

I wouldn't be surprised if they released upgrades to:

- MacBook Pro
- Mac Pro
- Cinema Displays

On the other hand, it wouldn't make sense to me to release upgrades to:

- MacBook
- Mac Mini (except perhaps introduction of Black Mini)
- (i)Mac

High probability of news regarding:

- iPod
- iPhone
- Apple TV
