Great Idea for Next Super Bowl Ad

START VOICE OVER NARRATION

"In 2009, Apple said farewell to big convention announcements. From now on, starting this April, all announcement will be made via live feed at your local Apple Store."

Show the woman in the jogging suit using the hammer to drive in a key pin to the projection screen scaffold.

"And in 2009, you will understand why we no longer announce like 1984." :apple:

Macword is kinda stupid, who puts a trade show right after xmas anyway?

I can understand why things aren't ready or not a good time show off. I can see in a few months the previous rumors will come to fruition.

The most boring Keynote ever.

Hugely disappointing. Unbelievable almost.

The cumbersome 17" MacBook Pro - no big deal at all there. The software - nothing groundbreaking.

Apple - blow us away with a superb MacPro?! It's way overdue.

*** sigh ***

Gimme a new iMac pleeeeeeze!!!!

Damn, I need some new iMacs for my business, and I'm ready to buy NOW but nothing pisses me off more than buying new computers just to see newer better cheaper models come out a few weeks later.

Hey Phil, wasn't there just "one more thing"???

Saving some

Info on Snow Leopard - like estimated release date.
Blu-Ray support in Snow Leopard?
Other new hardware - iPhone Nano, iMac, mac mini
Updated iWeb (more than they did), iDVD?

Really I'm mostly interested in what is going to happen regarding Blu-Ray support.

Since this was the last appearance of Apple on Mac World, I'm sure they have saved something for later. Saving for another event (their own) kind of proves that Mac World is less important.

I would not be worried.

Now do you see why Apple is opting out of these trade shows in the future? :p ;) Let them release products on their own schedule, and not have to worry about conforming to people's expectations of releasing certain things on certain dates lest they get all sucky and disappointed.

I agree.

I wouldn't be surprised if they update the Mac Mini in the next few days/weeks. They are aware of the Mac Mini - its out-dated and over priced for current times. Also, by launching it at another event (other than Macworld) it would make sense for Apple re-iterating that 'Macworld is not needed'.

Patience :D

Apple has posted the QuickTime video stream of today's Macworld Expo keynote by Phil Schiller. Apple made a number of announcements at today's event:

- Apple Releases Aluminum Unibody 17" MacBook Pro
- Apple Announces Changes to iTunes Stores: DRM Free, Variable Pricing
- Apple Releases iWork '09
- Apple Announces iLife '09

All of these announcements had been the subject of pre-event rumors, although several expected releases, including new Mac minis and iMacs, did not come to fruition. We will post a full rumor wrap-up in the next few days.

No Thanks! Not worth my time! ;)

Yep - see my post above - Apple doesn't want to be tethered to these trade shows any more and be forced to release products on certain days in advance, so this will give them more flexibility. Apple has released updates to products lines shortly after major events previously, so I could easily see them updating the iMac, Mac mini and Apple TV in the next few weeks.

I've been following the Mac community since before the 2.5GHz G5 came out. Have been an avid Mac fan since. Honestly, I know my way around the hardware & software of a Mac.

Not once have I got one of these freaking streams to display!!

Is there some readme I'm missing out on? Is it sheer numbers stressing the servers?

F

Try going into Quicktime preferences and set the streaming protocol to HTTP.

Everything that was announced today looks good but I *NEED* a new Mac mini ...

I fully agree with this. I use iWork a lot and a number of improvements were really needed. I do not know whether I like the new internet based stuff, but we will see.

The only issue I have now, is the lack of new hardware (new screens and MacPro). I have to spend the money before mid of January to have it booked on the last fiscal year. Doubt whether that will be the case :(

Not totally disappointed, but somewhat of a letdown for me and my crew.:(

This demonstrates exactly why Apple is planning on abandoning trade shows - they want to release products on their own schedule without having to be tied down to specific dates when people will have high expectations for them. It's probably going to be better this way...

mac mini

why do they do this to me? are they really going to hold off releasing this thing for another few months just to spite people for releasing pre-release news/reports/rumors. mofo's.

Honestly all I wanted to see was Snow Leopard, and I remember people saying a while ago that it would be at Mac World, pretty disappointed in the no-show.

At best it would have been a demo, which wouldn't have been that exciting considering no major new features are promised.

Out of all the possibilities, this was probably the LEAST likely considering that apple said it will ship midyear.

Yep. Apple's big markets are general consumers and students. And they don't like to announce products too far in advance of when they are available.

So they would really want to announce major products in the summer and before the holiday season. Early January is about the worst time to target for major releases.

I agree, not much significant to show about it that hasn't already been shown I'm guessing. We'll get some more info on it in the upcoming months I'm sure....

I Know that people say this after every keynote, but this time it's true! Worst Keynote EVER!

-No iPhone Update (Push?!?!)
-No Online iWork (I laughed so hard when he announced iWork.com and it's best feature is to share docs online)
-Integrated Battery in the 17''
-No new Mac Mini (?!?!?!?!? WTF?!!)
-No Steve (although Schiller wasn't that bad)
-Horrible band playing at the end of the keynote
-Top Songs now 1,29 (come on people, we all know that only old and unpopular songs are priced at ,69)
-No Iphone Nano
-No new iMac
-No Snow Leopard announcement or new infos.
