3 updated products today, more to come in the very near future - it'll all be okay, don't worry... ;)

Yeah, and two of those snoozer software updates. Sure more is to come, but it's particularly painful when so many models are SO overdue for an update.

Patience

Just because it wasn't updated today doesn't mean it won't be updated at all. Apple has had a history of releasing hardware updates just after major events, so see what happens in the next few weeks. If I recall correctly the last time Apple updated the mini is was a rather silent update as well, although this update would hopefully be more significant.

Yeah, I know - and I'll be waiting along with a lot of other folks. Point is, Apple had a chance to give Phil a nice start to his keynote career by introducing a little bit more at the last Macworld - hopefully this means that Jobsy ain't done giving his keynotes just yet.

Tony Bennett singing "The Best is Yet to Come"

I think that says it all... and I think it won't be long for it to come either. (I hope)

Let's be honest... this was totally expected!

One of the reasons why Apple wants to move away from these conferences, is this kind of crap from us rumour-hunters.

Every time it is the same ol' story...
Weeks building up to the MacWorld or WWDC Keynote are always full of rumours what to expect, and I think I am not far off when I say about 50% of the rumours actually come true.

Apple have said before that they want to move away from these events for hardware launches, and today is case in point.

The rumoured Mac mini and iMac are sure to be launched shortly. Presumably within a month, but if no form factor is changed and if it is only seen as an update, it will get a silent update.

Remember the new Mac Pro which was launched a week before MWSF '08?
Same test case, same proof.

Stop whining about not getting the products you hoped for at this event!!

The MBP 17" with its great battery deserved the time. iLife 09 and iWork 09 needed a demo. That was great.
Phil has done it well, even if he missed a word or two, but he has done the impossible: doing a Steve-note @ MWSF. And he did it very nicely indeed.

Snow Leopard?
Really, I thought it was already mentioned: it is far from finished! Why demo a mid-way beta @ MWSF?

IN short:
Good buy, MacWorld.
Hello, timely updates and press events for each one.

The rumour mill will get used it.

For me the keynote was all ok - iWork are now localized to swedish and finally Apple released a computer perfect for me to replace my aging PowerBook G4 17" (last PPC model, oct 2005). A matte 17" HD-screen + 256 GB SSD, great! (I couldn't care less about the absence of blu-ray)

Phil Schiller isn't Steve Jobs but he delievered a good enough keynote - the presentation must be fairly much "scripted" and the difference between a Schiller-keynote or a Jobs-keynote wasn't that dramatic after all
(I was expecting a much bigger difference. I guess the difference are more obvious when Schiller just comes on stage for a few minutes during a keynote held by Jobs)

I agree.

I wouldn't be surprised if they update the Mac Mini in the next few days/weeks. They are aware of the Mac Mini - its out-dated and over priced for current times. Also, by launching it at another event (other than Macworld) it would make sense for Apple re-iterating that 'Macworld is not needed'.

Patience :D

Last year Steve took the stage Late January and commented they had released new stuff every week so far that year.

MacWorld this was the first tuesday.
So what's the bet we see a set of rolling tuesday updates and refreshes with a town hall the following week to launch Snowy and "one more thing".

So
13th Mini with small Cinema Display
20th MacPro with big Cinema Displays
27th iMac
3rd Feb Town Hall

One of the reasons why Apple wants to move away from these conferences, is this kind of crap from us rumour-hunters.

Except that Apple's non-conference events have just as many leaks and rumors.

Weeks building up to the MacWorld or WWDC Keynote are always full of rumours what to expect, and I think I am not far off when I say about 50% of the rumours actually come true.

Describes the typical apple event just as well.

Be honest - that was lame

This keynote video has two major things to point our and scream about.

1) No hardware that lots of people have been waited for. No iMac, no Mini, no Pro. Oh yes 17 inch MacBook Pro is a really good excuse. sure (said with irony).:(

2) Shiller is absolutely not good at presenting things. He tries to copy Steeve but cmon couldn't he try to at least make his speech creative a bit ? My personal feeling is that I see Apple's Balmer. Just listen Balmer - Shiller. Their names and bodies and manners are the same. Am I right a bit ?

Yes. those people were right who said that will be a new era with a slight modification - Its the end of the era. God, please no Shiller anymore. Please let it be Jony Ive to present things. HE has the passion.

:apple::( "Sorry Folks two more ... years of winter" (Groundhog's Day)

Except that Apple's non-conference events have just as many leaks and rumors.

The problem is not the leaking.... it is the fact that everyone expects all the rumoured to be launched at these events!
And when they are not launched, or at least announced, people get all frustrated.

I think seeing this would make me even more upset!
UGH. I don't even own a Mac and this makes me mad. Well, I would have soon if they upgraded the Mac mini...

If the Mac mini would have gotten the a 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 1066 MHz RAM, nVidia 9400 M, 250 GB HD... but same enclosure... do you think Phil (or Steve) should have talked about it?
No. It is isn't a machine to demonstrate. It is just an update...
IMHO, if the 17 MBP didn't get the new fixed battery, it might not have been mentioned either!

Of course, I want to see the new Mac mini, and maybe even a new iMac, but I can understand that this keynote speech is not the time and place.
Again, a timely update, and maybe press release for both products will come.
Same goes for iPhone nano.

Craptacular

I am SO glad I didn't fork over the cash to fly across the country and attend this craptabulous Macworld Expo.

I am very disappointed that Apple didn't throw bigger bones toward the community that has been there for them LONG BEFORE anyone ever heard of trade shows. Since this is the last Expo for them, I expected much more from the keynote than THAT!

I have been holding off for so long from getting an i-mac, and now that they have not been updated to quad core should I still hold off???????????? this macworld sucked bad...

What is up with Phil's face? He has 3 big warts on the left side of his face. It reminds me of the three dots in the Terminator TV series.
Maybe Phil is a terminator robot?
:p

So, I'm curious as to what those Apple posters said then. A big picture of iWorks or something! LOL! They shouldn't have even covered them up, seriously!

Annoyance

I cannot believe that these forums have degenerated as far as they have. The majority of you are crying that "rumors" did not come true and your making fun of Phil and his skills as a presenter. Seriously guys, grow up. Now that Macworld is dead, Apple can toss new hardware and software at us in their own time and avoid whingeing bastards.

I used to think that Mac users were a little more creative, but watching you 12 year old boys throw around terms like "crapworld" has persuaded me to think otherwise. It's clear to me now, that if you don't want to be disappointed, stay away from threads like this and users like you (most of you).

I have been holding off for so long from getting an i-mac, and now that they have not been updated to quad core should I still hold off???????????? this macworld sucked bad...

Case in point.

Apple doesn't want you to wait until another Steve (or Phil-) note before getting a Mac!!!
The normal hardware updates will happen silently.... if something really new and / or cool is to be announced it will get its own attention. Press events.. whatever.

Now we know why Steve didn't want to give the keynote. He didn't want all the disappointed iMac & Mini fans to direct their collective anger at him. He threw Phil under the bus on this one. :D

I believe this is the most accurate observation so far. Totally agree.
