The problem is not the leaking.... it is the fact that everyone expects all the rumoured to be launched at these events!
And when they are not launched, or at least announced, people get all frustrated.

And the reason people get so pissed is because apple lets so many months pass in-between updates. If they didn't let the systems get so out of date, people wouldn't be so hyped about updates.

If the Mac mini would have gotten the a 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 1066 MHz RAM, nVidia 9400 M, 250 GB HD... but same enclosure... do you think Phil (or Steve) should have talked about it?
No. It is isn't a machine to demonstrate. It is just an update...

And if that were the case they could have just put out a press release today and not mention it at the actual keynote. But instead they didn't update at all.

How many years has it been since a mini update? How many more months might it be?

I got pissed so I bought a Dell Quad with 20" widescreen monitor for $800. Got firewire 400 so I can still use my camcorder. Use Lightroom for photos which I did before and Premiere for videos. Still use Safari for web browsing and google apps for calendar, email, etc. The other side ain't so bad. And I don't feel frustrated as hell when they DON'T release a new product

The majority of you are crying that "rumors" did not come true and your making fun of Phil and his skills as a presenter.

For the record, I'm complaining because the products announced were incredibly underwhelming regardless of rumors or expectations.

No Al Gore. YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

And if I'm not mistaken the speaker did point it out that there is No iMac and No mac mini and No iphone nano. Why would he do that? Obviously he was prepared with such information and was told to tell everyone about it at the end of his speech. That's weird. What was that all about.

Cannot Believe It

Totally amazing... I have been hanging out for the mini to be updated... I even dreamt about it last night!!! Wake up and get online to check... and it was true - no update to the mini. I just hope what many are saying is true - that it is updated over the next couple of weeks. :( I mean come on :apple: the iphone nano - do we need it? Nah, not really... but the Mini? It has been how long?!?!?!?!?!

Info on Snow Leopard - like estimated release date.
Blu-Ray support in Snow Leopard?
Other new hardware - iPhone Nano, iMac, mac mini
Updated iWeb (more than they did), iDVD?

Really I'm mostly interested in what is going to happen regarding Blu-Ray support.

Didn't you hear, BluRay is a "Bag of Hurt!" according to Steve, himself. I doubt we will see it in 2009 from all I have seen and read. I guess maybe in a Mac Pro but not in a MacBook. I personally am happy without hard media. I think digital via iTunes is great. But, I do understand it is becoming the industry standard. I mean, if Dell, HP, and Sony can do it, why the hell can't Apple???

I was sad there was no Mac Mini or Media Server. I really was thinking about going that route, especially if it was a "media" type deal in between a mini or Apple TV, but some Mac capabilities too.

IEHO (In Everyone's Humble Opinion) the Mac mini should have been updated before. I agree. Dunno what's keeping them.
The iMac is doing fine if you ask me.
We all know the Mac Pro is waiting for the server CPU of the Nehalem.
MacBook Pro's are fine.

Again I understand the frustration of the old Mac mini. For one reason or another it didn't get the updates alongside the MacBooks as we all expected.
Since the 10.5.6 nVidia-Mac mini rumours, we are expecting it.
And, really, it will come. Just not today. MacWorld keynote speech is not the time and place to "show" an updated Mac mini.
It is there for software demo's, cool new product announcements etc. Showing the press how well Apple are doing etc.

I think (based on no facts) that apple is either going to have one of their special events really soon (late january, early february) or it's just going to be a silent update. No one is expecting any external changes to imac, just the internals. They can then have people buying up the new imacs and then a month or two later have a special event for the mac mini. Judging by this I'd say the mac mini still has a few months to show up. Still think (and hope) imac update is happening really soon.

LOL!
You base your well thought-out investments on.. what?

For those who hold up to shame those who complaint.

Just think for a minute that people expected to buy their first iMac or Mini which will not be outdated in a month or two. They have their reasons to cry. If you are okay but try to understand those who are not. Oh yes and some are not teenagers so mind your manners.

You know, from all that I have read about Apple being done with Trade Shows, and that they want to release on their own terms, I guess today makes sense.

I read that they are waiting for a quad core CPU for the iMac which will be released late this month. Makes sense we do not see the iMac. Maybe Apple will have an event next month at its HQ.

The Mac Pro. Waiting on Nehalem. Right?

The Mac Mini.... WTF? There is no reason to not have a new Mac Mini... Surely not a quad core CPU for that...

iPhone Nano - thank GOD! I would hate to have to develop different Apps for the two different iPhones.

Tablet, later in the year was consensus.

The MEDIA SERVER. Big disappointment here, as this was my vision for a new Mac for my Entertainment NEEDS!

I AM DISAPPOINTED. I even took the day off from work for that worthless keynote... what a JOKE!

Pre-revision keynote script:
"This year it's all about the mac. And since you're already talking about new macs, I'm going to talk about something else"

Compare this keynote to the 2005 keynote when the Mini was first announced. Now THERE was a keynote all about the mac.

Schiller wasn't very convincing, but on the other hand he has some pretty big shoes to fill. However, the first engineer (the one with the round face, sits to the right of the screen) in the 17" MBP battery video was priceless. The way he delivers his lines, it's just like a POW video. "Apple is treating me well, and we are constantly working to create new and better batteries".

If so many of you didn't build your hopes up upon baseless rumours (in particular, regarding the mini), rumours circulated primarily to intensify the enthusiasm you're helping to create, you wouldn't be disappointed when nothing happens.

Surely?

I was hoping for am update to iTunes. :(
I have passed 148 applications. I need more pages or an iPod Finder application to launch those that I cannot see. :(

That's what I was hoping for!!!

People buying their first Mac wouldn't have known about this MWSF, unless they are "informed" by so-called Apple-"insiders".

And you don't know if the Mac mini / iMac / Mac Pro will get updated next Tuesday.

well i decided on this a long time ago though! And I still have a macbook pro unibody. But I decided to not give my hopes up whenever apple 'might' release something. builds great press, but never lives up to the hype.

Cure for insomnia

Wow. What day is this? I feel like Rip-Van-Winkle. Do I dare hit the play button again?
