You don't consider the 17" MBP to be a product update?

Nope, as I said before, if it didn't get a new type of battery, it wouldn't have been worth mentioning!

It is only worth time at a keynote speech if there is something MORE to announce than a simple update!!
Mac mini with better CPU, grfx, HD.. is NOT anything new. It simply is an upgrade!!
Last year the Mac Pro' 08 with 1600 MHz FSB, 8-Cores, GeForce 8800 GT card etc. was not announced @ MWSF, but silently upgraded one week before!
Please, people, try to understand!

If something new like a new form factor, or new hardware feature is there then it gets time on stage.

To be fair Apple has already said that 10.6 will be this summer. Absolutely no reason to expect it today.

Agreed. As for the iMac and Mac mini product lines, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see updates in the next few weeks. Just because updates weren't announced today doesn't mean we won't be seeing updates for another 6 months.

But on the other hand, it COULD be another six months for all we know. That's what makes it so frustrating, particularly given Apple's poor track record for timely updates.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5G77 Safari/525.20)

Apple should be getting scared now. Instead of giving the people what they REALLY WANTED, such as imac, mac mini, cheaper macs, they did the things that they thought we might just like and find interesting, but not desperate to get our hands on. How about going back to revolutionary, instead of being evolutionary?

People buying their first Mac wouldn't have known about this MWSF, unless they are "informed" by so-called Apple-"insiders".

And you don't know if the Mac mini / iMac / Mac Pro will get updated next Tuesday.

Um...what? You do know that a decent amount of the people the come to MR don't have a Mac and are waiting for updates to certain product lines, especially the Mac Mini, one person in particular that comes to mind is iParis, who has nearly 1400 posts here and certainly knew about MWSF.

No Keynote on iPhone

When I try to watch the 2009 MWSF Keynote on my iPhone I get the October 2008 notebook announcement instead. :(

Also... the podcast of the keynote isn't available yet.

True, it's anyone's guess, but I'd put money on sooner rather than later - just my opinion of course - and yes, sometimes frustrating regardless. ;)

I totally understand why today's roll out was not so exciting. But the software updates are very cool and the DRM free iTunes too, but rolling out really great products in the worst economic time in fifty years would be a bad idea. Even for Apple.

Yes the die hards here are drooling for the latest and greatest but most people out in the civilian world are cutting back big time. They are holding on to their laptops and desk tops for another year. They don't need to replace a perfectly good iPod or iPhone with something slightly cooler, faster or hipper at the moment.

There is plenty of time for Apple to roll out new gadgets but January 2009 is not the right time.

I really thought Phil was a better at giving speeches than this. He seemed very nervous today.

New Hardware?

I think we will see the updated mini and iMacs at the end of January when iLife 09 ships.

They will ship with it installed. No case updates just internal hardware upgrades. This makes sense to me because if they changed the look etc they would have been revealed today.

Just my thoughts.

Come on... sure, there are people who consult rumour sites for their purchases, but there were 9.7 million Macs sold last fiscal year, and not 1% percent of those buyers would have let themselves be advised by us...

Nobody is asking for "new gadgets". For the most part we just want machines like the mini brought up to current specs. Really great would be nice but considering the state of the mini we'd probably settle for "sucks less".

You can only be referring to the Mac mini.
And yes, I understand it. It has been about 580 days since the last update, and of course that is far too long...
Maybe there is a problem in getting the essentially MacBook elements into it..? Maybe nVidia can't deliver enough for both MacBooks and Mac mini's, and therefor Apple choosing it all for the MacBooks, and nothing for the Mac mini.
Maybe Apple really is developing Media Server-ish software, which must be bundled with a new Mac mini, and simply isn;t ready yet.

Apple want to make money. Apple want to sell up-t-date products. There is something about the Mac mini. We just don't know.

We should know by now that MacWorlds and WWDC's are not for product updates.
We shouldn't be disappointed.

Maybe Apple started shipping New Minis to Key Partners when MacColo released the State of Mini blog and still hasn't caught up enough with demand to put stock on shelves.

The thing with the mini is they can't pre-annouce it, it's a stock item in so many places. All the previous updates appeared in the wild before launch, to avoid the need to return old inventory.

Exactly.
The Mac mini will probably get silently updated. And hopefully within the next two weeks. Similar specs to the MacBook Unibody.

I've been following the Mac community since before the 2.5GHz G5 came out. Have been an avid Mac fan since. Honestly, I know my way around the hardware & software of a Mac.

Not once have I got one of these freaking streams to display!!

Is there some readme I'm missing out on? Is it sheer numbers stressing the servers?

F

I always had that same problem, until I got a new Router.

I now understand why Jobs bowed out. Yawn Fest 2009. No update to mini. :( I can already tell this will be a yawner of a year. I had so many expectations. So Sad. Maybe they surprise us later this year. BUT no Mac Mini,,,,, oh wait I said that. I'm still upset about it though.:(:(:(
