Now lets see Catia, PTC product line formerly Pro/Engineer [now Creo] and other Windows only products. I'll know then that the traditional Engineering markets are finally serious about making money in the most profitable markets the industry has been moving towards--the embedded spaces.

Oh yes, I'd love to see CATIA on OSX
it's a shame the company I work for has just replaced all it unix workstations with windows machines
I can't see them making such a big change again anytime soon :(

Is it a sign that Apple is sticking with the Mac Pro?
Would have loved to move our Maya licenses to Apple but waiting on new updates.
Not holding my breath :p

Sorry to say, but I think the Mac Pro has been effective EOL'd. Apple clearly aren't interested in the professional and business sector. How many revisions of competitor workstations have come and gone since the last rev of the Mac Pro?

If you run your business using high end software stick to Linux or Windows, at least you know they aren't going away any time soon and the hardware will continue to be bumped to keep up with the latest software.

Boxx's workstations have been updated four times.
Configure it any way you want.
Your choice of any AMD or Nvidia professional GPUs.

I think Softimage, Maya and others would have made more progress { feature wise } if they were not in Autodesks stable.

It was not so many years ago Autodesk used to have a total aversion to the Mac......this turn around is good news.

Fantastic news! If it runs as well as AutoCAD for Mac, they've got another winner! Great work, Audodesk! =]

I'm sorry, but have you actually tried using AutoCAD 2011 for Mac? It's unbelievably unstable. Crashes ALL the time. They had to release 3 updates and none of them helped with stability. Don't take my word for it, look at Autodesk's own AutoCAD for Mac forum.

This is great news. I've been using Solidworks on Windows and always wished I had something like it for the Mac. This fits the bill perfectly.
Autodesk has my respect.

Make all Autodesk products for Mac as long as it isn't Revit. What's the hold up?

It might run better on a mac osx, I'm running it in boot camp and it's a total dog when the models get large. Besides it the only software I need that runs in windows, and most of the large Architectural firms I work with use it.

3ds Max PLEEEZ!

I currently have to use Max on my Mac through Parallels. While this works well, it compromises my Mac's RAM allocation and means that Max runs more sluggishly. It stops me from using Max as my primary 3D design package (as much as I'd like to). If Autodesk release Max for Mac (with all the bells and whistles), I would pee myself with joy!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

Yes, PLEASE release 3ds max for Mac! This has been requested for a LONG TIME!

Let's hope the next 3DS Max / Excalibur will also make the jump... And Softimage, while we're at it...

It'll make all the difference between my next computers being Mac Pro/iMacs or PCs..

"Autodesk made headlines back in 2010 when they returned to the Mac platform after a two decade hiatus."?? Maya's been out for Mac since 2001/2002, Autodesk bought Alias (makers of Maya) a few years ago. I was in NYC for the resleases of the 2003 version :)

Dude. get more ram..

for all the naysayers on the future of the Mac Pro, thanks for your input.
I just ordered 6 more older models (meaning most recent offerings).
We have a total of 24 at work and will keep them going till the last one drops :)

I believe ;)

Got 12 Gig! It depends on how hard you drive Max. If you have a high poly count and you are running Max on a Mac through Parallels, you will have RAM issues more than running natively on a Windows PC. And I don't want to go back to a Windows PC's - been there, done that!
