'Macworld|iWorld' for 2012 - how not to brand, market and design.

OK it's terrible. Name is convoluted, confused, extraneous and passé. iFanevent - a lesson in how to patronise the audience, undermine the credability of your own event and sound outdated and out of touch with the sophistication and maturity of Apple and third party manufacturers offerings. The logo has 4 different degrees of letterspace tracking, condensed/capitalised/standard/light type weights. Horrific hierarchy and no visual impact. Was this the Designers first time in a DTP app by any chance? Like a kid in a sweet shop.

Fail.

Dorky name. Sounds like a trekkie convention.

What's wrong with a Trekkie convention?

Ha.. I'm shocked MacWorld is still around. When I was young, I read it a lot, but haven't touched it in 20+ years. I would be interested to see how many readers they have or gained since the rebound of Apple.

I'm shocked McDonald's is still around. When I was young, I ate there a lot, but haven't eaten there in 20+ years. I would be interested to see how many customers they have or gained since the rebound of food.

iWorld sounds like a name for an Apple themed theme park.

There used to be an "eWorld." It was Apple's attempt at an online community in the early 1990's. It never really took hold, though, because they couldn't coax enough Apple hardware and software developers to have a presence there.

Sorry. I just noticed that someone beat me to this! Doh!

I agree. It sure seems like someone's first time in a graphics program....

The words 'MacWorld' and 'IWorld' were made to be the same size, and then all the 3 lines were made to be left-and-right justified. No concern was given to text weights/sizes/visual impact except for the left-and-right justification. Seems very amaterurish to me.

It really begs for a simple logo. Aren't all Apple's designs minimalist, where a simple logo/icon/design shows you what something is - no text needed? This seems to be the EXACT OPPOSITE.

It makes sense Apple is much more than just the Mac these days. Events should include the whole ecosystem.

Why is it that Sony never gets made fun of for making broadcast TV cameras and Playstations?
Because Sony is setup very different from Apple? Sony operates almost like a collection of separate businesses so, for example, you'll never see resources pulled from Sony Professional (which makes pro quality video & cinema cameras) and diverted to Sony Computer Entertainment (which makes the PS3).

Do you have a problem with that too? Why?

Because Sony MAKES high end TV (and cinematography etc. etc.) cameras and Playstations. However, Apple USED TO MAKE high end equipment and software for creatives and scientists. Now Apple makes high end iToys in black and white for consumers and some random pro hardware that needs an update really badly. Lets not forget all the pro software or server hardware that Apple ditched or gave iTreatment. Unfortunately Apple can only do one thing at a time. Truly the Zoolander of computer manufacturers. Just wait for Apple's new "Blue Steel" even if it looks exactly like the one before...

People aren't consuming McDonalds competitors on the internet, but many people are consuming online media vs traditional and many magazines and media outlets have gone under. So what I said is much more relevant than your obnoxious sarcasm and dumb analogy.

Ah another reason why I seldom visit MacRumors. The tools live hear in droves.

Apple used to have an internet service called "eWorld".

It was much like the early days of AOL but the navigation screen was an illustration of a little city. To read mail you would click on the post office building, to get sports you would click on the sports arena and so on. There were various skins so you could make the city look like a martian colony or some underwater place. I was sad to see it go as it was my first introduction to the internet. Most of the former users were converted to AOL.

Heh, and I thought I was the only one who actually used this service. Ah, nostalgia.

Are they not doing free exhibit admission again for early registration like every other year? I live in SF so I typically go but only if I can get a free registration. BTW ever since apple pulled out it has gotten worse and worse every year, honestly last year was horrible as they only had one room and most of the companies sucked and hardly gave out free stuff. Noway I would pay for it now.

So far I haven't seen any free exhibit hall passes offered anywhere. Right now it lists $25 for that.

It's still somewhat useful to go, but without Apple the name isn't really the problem.

I'll probably see if one of my vendors will be giving us anything.

Ha.. I see your point. Thought my original question would have been interesting fact wise, but we're not interested in that here. I miss the days when MacRumors used to get their own rumors and not repurpose everyone else's. I mainly come back for the Buyers Guide, which is the most valuable thing on this site for me.

 What the hell is this?
Whoever is in charge of their PR should be fired.

Way to alienate your audience!
IFANEVENT? What are we, flaming fanboys?

Really, you have a point. The world of Mac computing is deteriorating into a world of inexpensive iToys and Apple-provided content. That's probably not a bad world, just not one for serious computer users and those who don't slobber while mumbling the latest product buzzwords like "iCloud", "Siri" and "Retina Display".
