When I made the switch to mac many years ago (first generation intel iMac) I also got a subscription to Macworld since it apperently was 'THE' mac magazine ... well, I never renewed the subscription since by the time the magazine is in the Mailbox all the 'news' in there are old news that nobody cares about anymore since it was already discussed for weeks on various internet sites ...

Fast moving high-tech and slow paper subscription just doesn't work anymore these days.

This is why I dropped all my mags (mostly Mac or audio) around 1998.

Heh, and I thought I was the only one who actually used this service. Ah, nostalgia.

Nice! I remember when it was going to shut down I wanted to be logged on to see what would happen when they pulled the plug. I waited up on the last day but fell sleep sometime after midnight and when I woke up the application had already exited to the login screen. I'm not sure what I expected to see but I was sure I had missed something lol

I've seen these kinds of posts THOUSANDS of times, yet not ONCE have I seen a list of requested features from the posters complaining about the iOS focus about a list of features they want from OSX, that aren't being provided.

The issue is not specifically about features wished for that are not being provided, it's about features that currently exist which could be in danger of being taken away. Apple is all about controlling the experience, and while I appreciate their focus on design and quality control, I don't want OS X to end up being the closed ecosystem that iOS is. That's it in a freaking nutshell.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance, so we're going to keep complaining and holding Apple's feet to the fire, to make sure they don't go over that line.

If you don't like it, too damn bad. We are as much a part of the Apple community as you are, so you don't get to tell us to shut up.

I've been going to MW Expo for more than 15 years.

I've seen the good times and the lean times (before Jobs became iCEO again; though Power Computing's "Fight Back for the Mac!" campaign with the camo and the Hummers was memorable), but I probably will skip the trip this year.

IDG has finally acknowledged that it's more of an iOS show, but that trend started years ago.

There's nothing wrong with that, since it clearly makes up the bulk of Apple's business now, but as far as the show goes, Apple's absence (as well as many other large vendors), changes the value equation of attending.

In my experience, to get a good look at everything on the floor could occupy days in the past; now, it can be done in a few hours.

There are only so many iDevice cases, speakers, and chargers one can look at before they all blend into one.

Times have changed.

All this "i" stuff is beginning to irritate me. Can't marketing guy comes up with anything original anymore?

Why is it that Sony never gets made fun of for making broadcast TV cameras and Playstations?

Do you have a problem with that too? Why?

There's always a curmudgeonly clown act sounding off in the corner. They're the ones still reading The Luddite Post and protesting the effect of those confounded steam railways on our canal network!

MacWorld should be held in Vegas

It would make so much more sense to have it in Vegas at the same time as CES. It truly would be the perfect place to have both at the same time.

Two shows for the same location.

OK it's terrible. Name is convoluted, confused, extraneous and passé. iFanevent - a lesson in how to patronise the audience, undermine the credability of your own event and sound outdated and out of touch with the sophistication and maturity of Apple and third party manufacturers offerings. The logo has 4 different degrees of letterspace tracking, condensed/capitalised/standard/light type weights. Horrific hierarchy and no visual impact. Was this the Designers first time in a DTP app by any chance? Like a kid in a sweet shop.

I was going to say that! So, totally agree.

Having learned graphic design on a drawing board, I spent 30 years in the game, and coined the term: 'Corporate Image Construction' in 1986, I can confidently say the design is retarded, divisive and confusing. I would never dream of presenting anything that bad to a client.

On my least creative days, I came up with logos that worked. On my most sleep deprived days, fueled by a bottle of decent red, or after a session at the local American diner, I won awards and made a respectable impact.

I predict this show is all but dead in its present format.

N.i. Not interested. I stopped going to Macworld years ago. (as did many vendors)

I'm sick of hearing about IOS, iPhones and iPads. Hows about some Mac Pros. Some of us want to do more then play Angry Birds
