What Happened To 64 Bit Computing! I Know These Knew Powerbooks Are Faster Than The Last, But I Thought Some Kind Of 64 Bit Processing Was The Future. Isn't That Where Windows Vista And Other Software Heading????
Wait for intel Core Duo "Merom" in January 2007. It will be 64-bit.

Wow. They did get rid of FireWire 800. And they didn't even replace it with anything better?

Yah they did. The EC slot is going to easily handle FireWire 800. You'll just have to bring your own. Kinda sucks but there it is.

Didn't know a Power Mac G5 is now a display :)

Only one problem with this announcement...

Everyone like me who owns a PowerPC based Powerbook or iMac G5 should have sold them off before today...

Your computers are all worth about $5 now.

No FW800 doesn't matter on a 15". You can get an express card with 2FW800 and one FW400 port on it no worries :)

How bizzare - the drive can't do dual layer burning??? I wonder why...

Have exactly the same configuration. I guess, they could not get the DL-drives to work in the Intel chipset in such a short time.

is there a webcast available already?

It'll be linked from here... http://www.apple.com/intel/

Also, check out the intel commercial... really cool! plus it has Moby music... I'm liking mac more and more.

SO - here's the question. How does the new iMac 2Ghz compare to the PowerMac 2Ghz now? (sorry - technically a double post in the buying tips forum but there's like 20x the number of people viewing this one!)

wee!

To a Mac fiend, yeah -- probably -- but there's not much sign of this impacting eBay -- at least not as of like five minutes ago.

Sell those PPCs! I'll be snapping those ****ers up. At least the dirt cheap old ones. All I want right now is a Sawtooth.

The one thing I can't find on the site is battery life for the new MacBook. Anyone seen this (estimate of course)?

iBook

Anyone have a clue when we'l see a new intel iBook? I was ready to sell my G4 with a huge hope for me ordering an intel replacement tonight :(

That's right I forgot about the express card! Nice!!!

umm...how come nobody has asked about battery life? I didn't see any numbers? This can make or break this thing.

They did say 2 processors, but I guess they didn't understand properly. Check the store out btw. They've bumped the price of the iMac and MacBook Pro for us brits! :(
Just checked and it's only an extra £30 for the new 17" iMac too. On the UK Apple store it quotes prices starting at £929 and £1429 in seperate images, but I can only assume this was a simple copy and paste job that was forgotten about and it should read £929 too.

£30 for 2x speed is nothing and I believe a better graphics card too. Also, the MacBook Pro also has ATI x1600 graphics, so it has PCI Express. Another great reason to order one, along with a .mac account and iWork '06. Better start changing my already wet undergarments.

Probably not until summer.

Don't bother selling your stuff right now, though -- seriously -- they're not shipping until February. Which means "practically March."

How about dual booting with windows? Hopefully you can pop the disc in and install it on another partition and hold the option get when restarting to choose an OS... :)

Not really. Anyone who is still on a G3, G4 may be looking at an upgrade. It could be debated though the G4 Powerbook's have been worth $5 for a while. :p :D ;)

Read one of my previous posts.

Tid bit non-plussed at the lack of 17", 12", FW800 and DL DVD burning...faster with better graphics, but dropping some nice features.

Exactly what I mean...anyone want a 15" 1Ghz Al Powerbook? Guessing no one would pay me more then $250 for it now and it is still a great laptop...just like new...oh well...progress I guess comes with a high cost to the consumer.

I really doubt it will be that simple. :)
