I like the way how the design kinda resembles the first Powerbook G4 (aka tiBook)

Regarding the price... C'mon, this was something we could have expected from the beginning. All totally new products released by Apple carry a high price tag, like the iPhone and appletv (which "surprise surprise!" got its price-cut today). Within a year the Macbook air will probably have its price-cut as well...

How is it exactly that the UK ever gets screwed? Where does Apple, Inc. exist?

In the UK, or the US?

They are lucky to get anything. Where are all the revolutionary European products that we DEMAND equality on over here? None.

You should be grateful.. Europeans and the rest of the World are subsidising your "lower" priced Apple goods.

Just had a thought...that Superdrive add-on..is the Macbook Air the only hardware that can use it?

yes

That will never be understood by web geeks.

When a new computer comes out, its not faster and better in every aspect imaginable, then its worthless.

Never mind the increase in usability, portability. Those are foreign words to uber geeks.

yea lets keep the same 13.3 screen size and make it so much easier to use right haha

all it is is a reduction of a thin laptop already to be just a bit thinner. and then slap a premium for it and have it be crippled in comparisipn just for the sake of being thin

sounds stupid to me. they should have made a 10.1 screen to be considered ulttraportable.

this isnt ultraportable lol. maybe ultrabreakable though

They took a standard 13.3" Macbook, made it a little thinner, and slapped a new name on it. LOL That's not an ultra-portable, that's taking the behemoth Macbook and modernizing it a bit to make it a little thinner.

An underpowered thinner Macbook that's not an ultra-portable, not small enough, not light enough, and really fits no market category except a thinner "standard" laptop. They should really get rid of Steve. He's bringing NOTHING to the table lately but crap.
Agreed this is way overpriced and way underpowered. It's just a novelty piece, to be the guy that has the thinnest underpowered laptop, that you have to buy every accesorry for it. By the time you get a cd drive and a remote (yea you have to buy one) you pretty much bought a MBP anyway.

They should really get rid of Steve. He's bringing NOTHING to the table lately but crap.

i hope you're kidding, either that or you live under a rock

Apple TV $229 for 40 or $329 for 160 .... I may be making a purchase. No use for the 40 but only $100 more for the $160, I just may have to break down.
And perhaps the Time Capsule just because I want to.
Sadly no 16Gb iPhone, now I have to decide if I'm going to finally break down and by the 8Gb.

Why would you do that? Why NOW? If you wanted an iPhone, 4 months ago was the time to buy. Now you are that much closer to the 3G, 32 gb model that will make u feel like crap for buying so late.

As an early adopter who enjoyed his $100 credit as well, I will have maximized my iPhone usage by the time the 3G model rolls around.

Now is not the time to buy an iPhone.

Wireless this, wireless that....they make it so much better - cheers Apple....but i do think that the UK cost is too steep. I'll prob purchase a pro version when released.......really happy about :apple:TV, i took a gamble on that 7 months ago and all has fallen into place....BRILL

The burning question

...that I've come to Macrumors to find the answer to: How much will Apple pay for the macbookair.com domain?

You should be grateful.. Europeans and the rest of the World are subsidising your "lower" priced Apple goods.

Actually I do business with Italy so I'm not grateful for anything.....the dollar suffers horribly against the euro, so no I have NOTHING to be grateful for in the UK.

Its the same screen size that is killing me. If it were a 10" and smaller, I could see it working better, but with the same size as a MB, doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

Then again, when I see it in person, that could be another thing. I own a MB and feel it is really portable. Is this one going to be much smaller, I understand its thinner, but with the same screensize the footprint is nearly the same.

Also the base HD is 4200 rpm.

AppleTV is still £199, or nearly $400. $229 + VAT should be under £140. £149 and they might sell some, even with the usual markup.

$1799 + VAT is £1078, so £1199 isn't the worst Apple markup I've seen.

The Air is nice, and Apple is clearly saying "You need a decent screen and keyboard, regardless of the device, let's make it slim slim slim" for their take on ultraportables. They have a point - thinness is far more useful than stumpiness, but I wonder about the compromises. However in terms of price it's quite competitive for its weight, features and looks.

I'm guessing once they get all the gadget people to buy the preconfigured units, they will start making it cheaper with different parts.
$1799 was a good deal. But upgrading to 200mhz faster processor and a 64ssd killed it to over $3k.

Well that REALLY makes my day.....why the hell could'nt they at least make the drive compatible with the rest of the computer line instead of this stupid elitist ********e? As much as I love Macs, I'm
getting really tired of the fact that I have to practically sell my house just to buy one. And not another word about how "economical" Mac Mini is...
