I bought a new iMac on Black Friday that's due for delivery later today. In retrospect, I probably should have waited, but I think I'll be happy with a 2.66 Core 2 Duo using the Penrynn chipset for quite some time.

I am still holding off on the iPhone 3G, though, in the hopes that a 32 GB version is released soon. I will be first in line for a 32 GB version as soon as it's made available.

My friend's dad is in the business, and he confirmed that the 32GB is being introduced in january in black and white, and the 8GB being dropped, as well as price drops to the 16GB going to 199 and the 32GB starting up at 299, i didnt ask but u suspect the 16GB models have black and white still,
And my friend's cousin's dad's second cousin twice removed is Steve Jobs. ;)

Kidding, of course, but I do hope this "insider" is correct.

The most likely thing we'll see at Macworld SF 2009 will be:

1) A demonstration of MacOS X 10.6 ("Snow Leopard")
2) The next-generation Apple TV box.
3) The next-generation Mac Pro tower machines.

I'm hoping against hope that Apple sees it fit to offer:

1) 32 GB iPhone.
2) 32 GB iPod nano (4G)

The 32 GB version of the 4G iPod nano may not be as far-fetched as people think. This especially in light of the Creative ZEN 32 GB, ZEN X-Fi 32 GB and Sandisk SANSA View 32 GB models now available. With the new higher-density flash memory about to reach the market, 4G nano with a 32 GB single chip flash memory chip is feasible.

But if you noticed, the 4G were originally supposed to keep the 4 and 8 gig configs but at last minute they added the 16 gig, so the possibility of it is slim to none, also to the fact that ipod nano memory upgrades have never happened, only one time did a white version come out and a low end 1 GB

Nah, I think iPhone and iPods are gonna stay unchanged until next summer. I believe Apple is planning the next huge change to iPhone. They hit their goal with for 2009 deadline, they're gonna make a new one in 2009.

Funny how, mini is cheapest mac yet it doesn's sell. Apple is gonna do something about that.

iMac changes just internally.

I think this event is gonna be strictly on Mac products, no music or tv. Apple likes to have a theme. )

What is the typical time period that you can buy an iphone in and still be able to upgrade/return it after?

I've been thinking of getting an iphone for a bit, but wouldn't want to miss out on a 32gig one. Is there a 30 day trial period or the like in which I can return the phone and buy a new one if it comes out (i.e. if the iphone is introduced jan 9th, can I buy an iphone dec 9th and still be somewhat assured that I'd be able to return the 16gig one and get the 32gig one)?

Thanks

Apple will bemuse and dumbfound analysts by releasing the iCrystal line of laptops, mere months after the heralded unibody line. The new laptops will each be chiseled from a solid block of Swarovski crystal.

The laptops will be incredibly thin and fragile, and Steve will wow the crowd by demonstrating a how a single high-pitched scream can shatter the casing into thousands of razor-sharp iShards.

The laptops will also be substantially slower than the current unibody lineup, and will have 0 ports of any type whatsoever, nor will they have a power supply, as any contact with the precious crystal could cause severe irreparable damage. They will instead be powered solely by the harmonic resonating of universal love and "good vibes". Bad vibes and mean people will cause the laptops to crash.

No. What? No. Fish or cut bait, buddy.

Why is it every time an event is around the corner some guy who thinks he is a writer for mad TV writes up some awesomely un-funny bogus prediction?

Personally, I don't really care about the capacity of the iPhone as much as I'd like to see an aluminum back, although 32Gs would be nice. I'm trying to convince my mom to get a Mini, so an update on that would be pretty nice. It's amazing how hard it is to convince people; I've been on a mac for nearly 10 years, my uncle a little more, I got two of my siblings to switch and they are thrilled, my mom's sister loves her MBP, but still my mom is skeptical.

CDMA ≠ GSM

It's not about "liking" each other. It's not about Verizon turning them down. Apple isn't going to expend energy making a phone that works on an entirely different technology.

Why not? Apple already did change radios, when they added 3G (which is based on W-CDMA).

Apple wanted to be on Verizon to begin with. With a CDMA version they could go after the 2/3 of the US market that they're missing now.

Of course, right when I want to buy a Touch, they start talking about the 64gb upgrade I've been waiting for. I don't know how the iMacs could get any more minimal or thinner, but I guess a redesign wouldn't be bad. Honestly, though, I think they should do something with the Mac Pro. And a 17" Powerb...I mean Macbook Pro would be nice. Still have trouble saying that word...

Too much effort for a small market. The global GSM and 3G market vastly exceeds the numbers they could serve by making a CDMA phone.

I agree with you, and not to say that Apple will do this, but money is money and Apple will go after the money. Regardless of the worldwide GSM market, the US CDMA market is going to entice Apple a lot more IMO.

Basically, Apple would sell more phones NOW by putting the iPhone on the Verizon or Sprint network (mainly VZW), rather than launching it in a new country. If I were Apple, knowing that my phone is now a glorified Razr with social networking apps, I'd release the phone on another network.

But that'd be too much like right.

Maybe an iPod Stick?

Been there done that.... remember the 1st generation shuffle?

Not enough to justify the costs. China and Russia are where the next big market push will be.

Apple still have an exclusivity contract with AT&T in the US so that rules out any form of CDMA iPhone for the time being.

It's just too small a market to worry about.

Keep in mind the previous design lasted from 2004 to 2007.
The new iMac really isn't different from the G5 iMac in terms of design. All that really changed was the chassis materials and the internals. Therefore, the design from 2004 is still going strong.

Since when does the iPod Touch 2nd Gen have a Bluetooth radio?

It has been known for a long time that the 2G Touch has a Broadcom BCM4325 chip inside.
This chip, acording to the Broadcom website, can handle WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and FM receiving, simultaneously.
The Bluetooth capabilities of the chip are said to be blocked by the OS and are only used for Nike+ but it can, theoretically, be "unlocked" and used for other things.

whooo been waiting for 32gb to get one
but is there absolutely no bluetooth support?
might have to wait a bit longer then :(

I would agree but remember, Apple designed the nano's internals so it only supported a single flash memory chip, hence the smaller flash memory sizes. The Creative ZEN/ZEN X-Fi and Sandisk SANSA View models could reach 32 GB because these non-Apple players could accommodate two flash memory chips on the players' circuit board.

But now that Toshiba is ready to ship the 32 GB single-chip flash memory module (and likewise Samsung doing the same), and since Apple can easily get very large volume discount pricing even on these latest flash memory chips, Apple no longer has the technical limit of 16 GB on the 4G nano. Even if it's priced at US$249, a 32 GB version of the 4G nano will sell, if only because it would allow users to rip CD's at higher encoding rates for MP3 or AAC (or even go to Apple Lossless encoding) and still put a good number of albums into the player.

I have a 3G nano (8 GB) and I have to rip my CD collection at 192 kbps VBR AAC so I could fit enough CD's into my player plus accommodate the number of podcasts I download through iTunes 8.0.2. If Apple offered a 4G nano with 32 GB of storage, I'd buy one in no time flat so I could bump up the encoding rate to 256 kbps VBR and still accommodate a lot more music into my player. :)

I'm getting fed up of boring little incremental changes in s/w and h/w...

If Apple want to stay ahead of MS who are trying to steal 'innovator' mindshare title then this Macworld they'd better reveal something seriously fooking WOW!!

It's been 2 years since we had any true WOW...time for some more I think...

Come on Apple - $25Billion in the bank - splash some cash on R&D and announce something ludicrously sci-fi and futuristically mind blowing...

This kind of thing would put me off buying an ATV for Xmas since I'd be seriously pissed if they released a Gen 2 a couple of weeks after i'd just bought one...

Hi,

32GB on a phone?

That's more storage than my 4 year old iBook. How much storage space is enough .... for a phone?

Enough space to store the entire internet should do it I reckon... :p

Hopefully when I return from my month-long holiday after MW'09 there'll be a good reason to spend the hard-cash I've saved for an iPhone and Macbook Pro that's just doing silly things such as earning interest in a back account...
