I agree, with the previous few events we've seen leaked images of products beforehand, so far not with this one.

Possibly because there aren't any new products? Or if they are purely updates, there aren't any external changes?

If it's only going to be about software as some people are speculating, that is going to be one boring hour and a half keynote.

Phil: ..and see here, we changed the cursor to be a slightly different shade of black. Isn't it amazing?
Crowd: Zzz.

I'm really hanging out for a new LED backlit 20" ACD, even though it's prolly not gonna happen for a while, would be sweet if they release new Minis and Pros.

iWork X, iLife X

iLife '04, '05 and '06 came out in '04, '05, and '06.

But I think Apple learned something from magazine dating, and iLife '08 came out in '07.

We'll see revisions to iLife and iWork tomorrow, but they will be iLife X and iWork X.

If we don't, they missed an opportunity.

Marvellous! I bet there would still be people whooping every bit.

Dear Apple Community,

For the first time in a decade, I'm getting to spend the holiday season with my family, rather than intensely preparing for a Macworld keynote.

Unfortunately, my decision to have Phil deliver the Macworld keynote set off another flurry of rumors about my health, with some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed.

I've decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax and enjoy the show tomorrow.

As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008. The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors. A few weeks ago, I decided that getting to the root cause of this and reversing it needed to become my #1 priority.

Fortunately, after further testing, my doctors think they have found the cause -- a hormone imbalance that has been "robbing" me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis.

The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I've already begun treatment. But, just like I didn't lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this Spring to regain it. I will continue as Apple's CEO during my recovery.

I have given more than my all to Apple for the past 11 years now. I will be the first one to step up and tell our Board of Directors if I can no longer continue to fulfill my duties as Apple's CEO. I hope the Apple community will support me in my recovery and know that I will always put what is best for Apple first.

So now I've said more than I wanted to say, and all that I am going to say, about this.

Steve

Perhaps I'm being gullible - did he actually release that? It's not on Apple's site or anything :S

I have only one wish: a media server solution. One iTunes/iPhoto/iWhatever library for all our household laptops to use.

Great to here that Steve should be on the mend, though this certainly nixes any chance of him appearing tomorrow i feel, although maybe by video.

I agree, one library for everything (including AppleTVs of course). That said, I don't necessarily think this needs to be a hardware solution, just built the software and include it in an update or 10.6...

My guesses

I reckon the following updates for MW09:

  1. iPhone Nano release on PAYG/Simfree? for most of the primary iphone adopting markets
  2. Mac Mini update including latest Nvidia Graphics options
  3. 17" MBPro design and innards update to include latest Nvidia Graphics options; battery still removable
  4. Mac Pro Update to latest Nvidia graphics and maybe some new display port options
  5. iMac update to latest Nvidia graphics and maybe some new display port options
  6. OSX productivity suites update (iLife, iWork, iPhoto)

Other than the iPhone nano, the reason all these updates would come through would be to harness the OpenCL capabilities of Snow Leopard, which will either be launched today or soon after...

I will be knocked over with a feather if the iPhone Nano Mini Shuffle actually appears in the product line up at this time. That's a product I suspected on the way for 2010 or beyond as the iPod line crumples up into iPhones.

The mini is exciting, if they upgrade it nicely to be a cheap version of the tower Just give us dual monitors and an SATA. And better processors, at LAST.

New Towers?

I've been waiting on the new towers, although the MacMini's sound tastey.

Maybe I can grid a handful of those babies as my tower :)

Hoping for a quad-quad with the new 30" LCD for my birthday :D

I REALLY wish for a media-server. And not just a NAS that houses a bunch of files.

Consider my situation: We have a MBP, with accounts for me and my wife. We both have our own iTunes-accounts. How could we use our content in AppleTV (for example), while simultaneously allowing each of us to sync our libraries to our iPods? There is no simple solution for this.

The idea of streaming the content does not appeal to me because I would like to access that content independently of the laptop. So I would need some kind of media-server that runs 24x7 that could stream the content, while allowing us to sync that content to iPods and so each of us could add content to our libraries.

There is no solution for this. Surely Apple is aware of tis problem?

They are inexcusable for not having come up with it already, they are supposed to be at the forefront of innovation and yet WHERE are they when it comes to: HOME MEDIA SERVERS, EBOOK READERS, HANDHELD TOUCH DEVICES (the f. tablet) (I know most of you will think I am bonkers but I am gonna share with you that last night I dreamt of the modbook (axiotrnon) with the new aluminum chassis as great device to carry and use bookwise while surfing the net and doing all sort of things then (in my dream) I zoomed in a saw a name "mac something" and though omg they DID release it after all...now laugh away at my demented dreams).

How are they supposed to be pushing a client for your tv
:)apple:tv) when they don't have a server, you know apple, client/server tec and all? Huh? Ok, your computer can act as server but if you have to open your computer to serve the file (and since most people use laptops) you might as well just stick the cable directly from said laptop to your tv, why have the :apple:tv middleman. Some people over at :apple: are bozos. Had they already released a media server they would have boosted the sales of apple tv tremendously. Because as it is like I said if you have to have your pc open just to use the :apple:tv (ok you can tranfer it before hand at the :apple:tv hd but even so you have to turn it on) then you might as well connect it directly.

All that said I am sure they aren't gonna be realeasing a media (and for that matter a file server) any time soon. Too bad for them because I am going to get my raid, four bay nas very soon and they are gonna lose my sweet $, I am gonna have it sync everything between my machines, have it always on, and access it any time I want to remotely via the web. So long :apple: suckers....

I disagree on the Blu-Ray thing, granted its not a blu-ray thing to show media in 1080p but everyone who I show decent quality HD 1080p on a normal sized TV in most homes are amazed by the difference. If blu-ray is to survive it needs to drop in price on the media and players to replace DVDs.

While I agree with you on the proper Blu Ray presentation--you yourself admit that the circumstances are specific--'decent quality' i.e. movies with spectacular enough content (not per se action sfx but grand scenes), expert digital encoding and proper TV/ player set-up (not all resolutions and/or cables/ TV's are equal--we all know).

I guess my point is just--I've seen alot of Blu Ray set-ups and when it's good..it's great--but mostly it's just 'okay' and for the money, average TV sets of most families and the relative usefulness and comfort of standard cable definition and more efficient DVD--it's really not likely that Blu Ray will take off in the time that more convenient and financially (for families) viable download quality and distribution increase in demand and opportunity--Blu Ray won't be around 5 years for now -- certainly not as a major platform of choice for content.
