I really feel screwed over. I don't have a computer. I'm using my Mom's and have been since last week knowing that I would be able to purchase a new Mac today. Now I have no idea what to do. I would get a Mac Pro in its current form IF it had the Display Port on it. As it is today you can't go to an Apple Store and get a Mac plus a 23" or 24" display. You are forced to buy a MacBook if you want to use the new 24". What a letdown. I'm seriously considering going Hackintosh just because I'm so sick of Apple not keeping their product lines updated regularly. If they won't let me keep a Mac long term and just update parts as I need to, the least they can do is keep their products updated so I can upgrade yearly.

Or, here's an idea: Buy a Mac Pro and get a cheaper DVI Dell monitor.

Why on earth you'd want spend extra to get the Apple monitor INSTEAD of getting the computer you want is kind of strange.

a) DVI will be around for a long time.
b) The video card in the Mac Pro can be upgraded. Eventually there should be one with display port.
c) It's not hard to find a monitor just as good or better than Apple's monitors. (and they'll be cheaper too.)
d) The current Mac Pro will last you for years as it is. (Assuming no repeats of the outdated video card debacle.)

I wonder if Apple intentionally made this keynote lame on purpose so people would be less upset about them bailing on MW completely?

At first I didn't like the Black Bezel.

But now it looks classy... The silver bezel looks dull.

I would like to see the Matte side by side with the Glossy one..to see differences in screen

OK here's what I thought.

Since we no longer have the powerpcs to kid ouselves that we are ahead in tec, but we went intel inside and our 1.5 years update cycle are behind even mom and pop windoze pcs in tawain in terms of processors, we can MAKE BELIEVE apple brothers and sisters that intel offers us products that might LOOK underwhelming and be at least half a month old by others standards BUT ACTUALLY we are getting a SPECIAL deal since they are from an ultra secret MADE FOR MAC batch that is BETTER EVEN IF ITS SLOWER IN CPUS FSB EVERYTHING, cause it's A MAC!!! HUH? Like that SPECIAL macbook air cheap we got exclusively from INTEL last year, and which then EXCLUSIVELY everyone else had it shortly afterwords, which was so SPECIAL that IT COULDN'T PLAY A YOUTUBE VIDEO! And darling apple after touting how we had the greatest processor for un ultraportable issued then an UPDATE to downgrade its cores just so we could watch a youtube video!!!!!!

Isn't all that smashing!!!!!!:D:confused::eek::p:D

oh this land of make believe!!!!

Heh, I guess they really did not like doing macworld I am hoping there will be a desktop event this week or next

So they are killing the Mini? That is effectively what they are doing by not updating it. My GF was holding off on getting a Mac because I told her the Mini was probably going to be updated. The existing Mini is horribly overpriced. 1.83 GHz, 1 GB, 80 GB hard drive for $600? You have to be kidding me, that's offensive.

So I guess it's plan B. Hackintosh, anyone? A few months ago I built myself a quad core 4 GB PC for less than the price of a new Mini, and it runs OSX just fine...

Well, you could always switch to PC. Funny that by not updating the Mac Mini, it might make people like me "switch" the other way. I have never owned a PC, but have owned 8 different Macs. Now that I need a cheap but decent computer for my kids, there isn't a Mac which meets my needs.

An upgrade version for iWork/iLife would be really nice. I bought my MacBook on mid november with iWork 08. Mainly, it just looks like they've added some new animations, themes and some very small features. That would never justify 79 EUR for me.

The box set with iLife, iWork and Leopard is nice, but I don't need another Leopard. :( Any chance they maintain this product when they release Snow Leopard?

Looks to me like Apple will announce new products at special events/via Apple.com the day they are ready to ship. Makes sense when you look at the hardware line-up awaiting a refresh:

Mac Mini
iMac
Mac Pro
Cinema Displays

Macworld ending with such a damp squib seems apt.

I don't get it. He starts off by saying the keynote is "all about the mac". I was expecting a mac pro or a mac mini update at least.

Why does apple let it's hardware get so stale before an update? At least give the mac pro a semi-to-date video card option. Ugh.

I think Apple is just saving some goodies for OUTSIDE of MW... Just my opinion.

SECONDLY, all the idiots out there pining for the iPhone nano, flaunting their "trusted sources" and "exclusive insider information", now have a foot securely planted in their mouths. Maybe this will teach all the gullible... well, less-than-knowledgeable types to take everything they hear with a grain of salt.

Just my $0.02.

Because after today, Apple will never release another product, ever, right? By your logic, a 32GB iPhone will never exist, because it was not announced today. There will never be another new iMac, Mac Pro, or Mac Mini either, right?

Maybe you should think for twenty seconds before you post... ::)

I am impressed by the face recognition in iPhoto. Automagic metadata for family photograph organization is a killer app. I am however quite disappointed that 10.5 is a prerequisite as I have no plans to update the eMac (I am still not ready to give up Classic).

Me too. I love that is works with FaceBook too, so if you can't tag photos yourself, you just upload them and other people can do it for you, then it syncs back to your computer.

I am left with one question:

What music is priced at $.69 ? Is it everything with DRM that is over 6 years old?

Since none of it will have DRM by the end of Q1, I'm assuming that all songs more than 6 years old will be $.69, regardless of DRM or not.

I just checked a handful and they were all more expensive than the download versions. Sure, sometimes you can get the CD the same or cheaper, but that's not always the case.

You're right. I guess it comes down to what your buying. I tend to stay away from the mainstream (not that it's bad or anything).

Nobody's forcing you to stay. Have fun on the Dell forums.

He even had pictures of the lineup behind him. WTF? PHIL?!?

Or maybe you should read my post and realize that I was telling people to carefully consider their sources... it would be one thing if I said "If Apple doesn't say it then it's not true", but that's not the case. You would know that if you would have taken those twenty seconds and heeded your own advice.

I must say that this was probably the worst keynote in quite some time. There was relatively no hype going in and that's a good thing because the announcements were duds. I personally don't care about iWork and although some of the stuff in iLife is cool and improved, I still got very little from it. I was hoping for something more than a non removable extended life battery in the 17" MBP being the lone "new" thing.

Not to mention the people who have been considering switching from the PC to the Mac just waiting for Apple to update their products.

Well Apple can officially kiss my a$$, I've been waiting to see if they would release a 24" DVI-compatible monitor, but with no updates to the Cinema Display line, I'm going to look elsewhere for a new monitor.

Apple could have had my $900, but I'll gladly spend it elsewhere
