Magazine apps are starting to be updated to appear in the Newsstand feature of iOS 5. In this screenshot, sent to us by reader Shawn, we can see Wired, GQ, and Popular Science apps ready for reading. At the moment, only developers with the iOS 5 developer beta can see Newsstand.

All three apps were updated today with support for Newsstand built-in. Other magazine apps, including Golf Digest and Glamour, were updated today for Newsstand support, ready for iOS 5's general release tomorrow.

Here's what Wired looks like after launching it:

And the multitasking tray (note the single issue):

It's nonsensical that Newsstand, a folder, is present in the tray. Ugh.

Popular Photography has been updated as well.

I've had over 20 updates just this morning - tomorrow is going to be hectic.

Why isn't the store button working in the App? Is there not a magazine that I can view on iPhone to test it out?

I have the GM and nothing shows on my Newsstand; also the Store button at the top-right is disabled. And a note in the middle of a shelf says:
"You can download magazines and newspapers in the App Store"

Did anyone noticed how weird it opens, just like a folder instead of full screen?

Because it is a folder. That's also why you can't put it in a folder.

Apple really needs to give us the option to delete or turn off this thing. I will never buy a magazine, so this app will just be in my way.

Adding Mags to the Newstand

Ok, what you need to do at this point is add the magazines from inside the app store. You can do a search for "Magazines" to refine the results a bit. There are quite a few now such as QG, Car and Driver, Golf Digest, Outside, Wired, Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Nat Geo for kids. The easiest way to find them is to look for the thin magazine style icons in the results.

Try this

Agreed. I hate the fact I can't get rid of it on iPhone. Totally pointless since magazines are iPad-oriented.

Try this...
Click "Settings" then "General" then "Restrictions" then enter your passcode, then under "Allow" simply click the desired App "Off"

My store button just started working on my iphone so they might be turning it on now.

Lol

Ah, LOL! Coincidently, these are the three magazines I have for my iPad (WIRED and GQ are free when you have a print subscription; an awesome deal). Good taste, good taste, lol.
