Thanks to spiralstairs. I downloaded the Wired app in the App Store, and immediately showed inside my Newsstand. So it does work, just that we didn't understand exactly how... (I'm still a little confused on what to expect it to do; I'll just wait until tomorrow)

I don't get the appeal with this. Isn't the whole idea behind publishing on the internet via the web that you don't have to wait for monthly magazine publications (which have months of lead time anyway)?

Another good feature that is not supported on my iPod Touch 2G. Well iOS 5 looks a lot better with cool features though.

I so hate having to wait still another day for iOS 5, the suspense is killing me.:)

Your lucky. I have the iPod Touch 2G and I can't get any good features that the iOs 5 has.

Here's what Wired looks like after launching it:

And the multitasking tray (note the single issue):

It's nonsensical that Newsstand, a folder, is present in the tray. Ugh.
I totally disagree. Anytime you want to find a magazine you look for the Newsstand, you don't want three, five, ten magazines sitting in your multitasking tray. You want a magazine, you know where to go.

It's working on my iPad but I've got say I'm a bit surprised that you have to have BOTH the magazine app installed and newsstand. I was of the impression that having newsstand meant I could delete the 20 or so magazine apps I have installed.

Edit: My bad. As each magazine app releases its update for newsstand, it uninstalls the app itself and works exclusively within the newsstand app from then on. Beautiful!

In his picture both Wired and Newsstand are in the tray.

Apple really needs to give us the option to delete or turn off this thing. I will never buy a magazine, so this app will just be in my way.

So just move it out of your way. I have a folder of apps titled "Seldom Used" and it's on the last page of my apps.

re: turning it on now

My store button just started working on my iphone so they might be turning it on now.

Are you currently subscribed to any of these magazines? I'm just wondering because I am not currently subscribed to any of the magazines that are currently out, and I've been anxious for Newsstand to start being useful (even if it is another means of procrastination). There wasn't even any sample code for Newsstand :(

It's inconsistent with Apple's own implementation of folders, that's my problem. Not to mention both Wired AND Newsstand are in my tray together...

I don't why, but I am very interested in Newsstand. I just like the idea of digital magazines arriving automatically on the Home Screen. *shrug*
