No... actually I want an honest response on how redundant this item is. There's no need for it, it's just money out the window, it's not going to make the trackpad more functional.
So there's two sides to this:

1. Apple failed during the design of the trackpad
or
2. People are actually that stupid that they can see a point in this.

You've got to be putting us on.

You really think that this has no purpose?

How about for a home theater PC, where the single trackpad/keyboard unit is EXTREMELY handy while sitting on the couch?

Or, similarly, anyone that wants to use a computer without a desk directly in front of them. Sitting back in a chair, for example.

It's a brilliant design, and something I'll be buying as soon as it's available in UK shops.

For the other poster asking about people using the trackpad - I have one for each of my machines. So much easier than a mouse. Don't need to worry about what surface I'm mousing on, don't need to worry about desk space (or a desk at all). And the multi-touch gestures are brilliant.

Below, not to the side...

I still want the same keyboard/trackpad arrangement as I have on my MBA. Then when I use my iMac I don't need to switch modes from how I work on my laptop. That configuration would also sit nicely on my lap when I get an AppleTV. Please Apple (or anyone...?), make an integrated keyboard/magic-trackpad in a vertical, integrated unit.

How about snapping this on as well???

I thought that this was a great item to have for those that needed the extended features AND a BT keyboard!

Exactly! It's a shame the color on that keypad doesn't quite match the BT keyboard...

I thought that initially, but I was surprised how effective my iPhone or my son's iTouch worked for driving Netflix on the aTV (including text entry from the iPhone keyboard). Much smaller and more convenient...

Apple TV doesn't support keyboards/mouses/trackpads

You mean something like this?

I really like the Magic TrackPad ... helps greatly to eliminate the RSI pains I get in my hands from too much mouse gripping (and yes, I do use carefully selected mice designs to minimize this).

I was hoping that Apple would introduce a wireless keyboard/trackpad all-in-one someday, but this looks to be pretty close. I find the TrackPad great when sitting on the couch or recliner (although the Magic Mouse works pretty well on the arm of the couch or on my leg) and using my MacMini HTPC with the large screen TV. Having a one-piece keyboard/trackpad will be great for this.

Looks like a nice product....!

This is exactly what I've been hoping for -- something that turns the keyboard and MT into a single unit that I can center more correctly on my desk without fear of them becoming misaligned.

Ordered!

That's what you get when Apple makes metal and this company uses painted plastic! :D

But seriously, could you imagine the beast of an input device this would be with a Keyboard + BT Number Pad + Magic Pad?????

So tell me again why Apple refuses to make this or at least the BT Extended Keyboard like we USED to have?

Even though I use a Magic Trackpad both at home and at work... I won't be buying one of these.

For me... it's nice to be ale to position the trackpad slightly differently than the keyboard (ie angle it a bit.... etc.). I don't ever move them from room to room like in the video... so don't have a need.

Looks like a good product though... if you need it.

Magic Wand

I have the LMP Bluetooth 10-key in mgipe's post, and it's truly brill.

What you don't see is that it also duplicates the Apple keyboard Power button that it covers. It pushes a rod that pushes the Apple button.

I should add that you don't even notice that it's plastic. Not an issue.

I have been wishing for something like this recently. What I would really like, is a wired version, with a USB "arm" that plugs into the USB port on the side of the wired keyboard. I don't need wireless, and this thing seems to go through batteries pretty fast.

Having the tackpad anchored to the keyboard would prevent those occasions where the trackpad slides forward, and the keyboard slides under it, preventing clicks.

I assume it doesn't work with the extended keyboard? :(

Oh well, maybe they'll be reading this comment.

The standard keyboard isn't deep as the magic tackpad, and it doesn't have the battery tube, so it would have to be a much different device.

I don't understand how you can use a magic trackpad in your lap, as shown in the video.

I have a magic track pad. There is a large white plastic square on the bottom, which actuates the "click". I can't click, if I set the trackpad on my leg. I've tried several positions.

Perhaps there is a "tap to click" function on the magic trackpad. I certainly would have turned that off.

Yes. Preferences->Trackpad->"Tap to Click"

You have this off? Why would you do that? I would hate to have to physically click the thing all the time to click.

Hopefully everyone here with a magic trackpad is also using three-finger drag.... right!?!?! If you're not... you are TRULY missing out!

Preferences->Trackpad->Three Fingers->Dragging

Just do it already!

It's nice but, $130 just for a glorified keyboard holder? You still have to buy the keyboard and trackpad for $140.

$270?? :eek::eek:

$129 just for a piece of metal? Phew!!!

Oh, I'm neither advertising nor endorsing it! It's way too overpriced in my opinion. I was just bringing to light that the product does exist.

If I ever get my dream Mac mini HTPC setup (it's not that hard to win the lottery, right?) then the Magic Wand will be on the top of my list of accessories.

There is a reason that this feature can be disabled. Not everybody likes it. I have always turned it off immediately on any laptop with a trackpad. I think it is great that you can use "tap to click" and I can use the physical click that I prefer.
