someday yes they will. Not any time soon. And that’s the way technology evolves. And in the mean time you can get one of these and stop complaining.

I’m not complaining as nothing has happened as of yet. I’m all for this happening some day but hopefully Apple and the car manufacturers work together on it as far as the timing goes.

Ports are so outdated /s. Apple has the courage to remove all the ports, the charging port and the sim card slot.

They will then introduce an international network so they have monopoly over the sim so the whole product is owned by Apple and you're just renting it.

So taking our phone off the charger should require 2 hands? That sucks because I usually grab my phone with one hand off the wireless charger every morning when I wake up. 2 hands required feels like pulling a cable off the phone's port which removes the convenience of a wireless charger in the first place.

Would actually not really mind that if its cheaper than buying a device.. most people currently already buy their devices on some sort of monthly payment scheme and at the end of the day you end up with a device which you either hand down/keep as backup/trade in/throw away. This way, you rent your device on a yearly basis.. as new devices come in you can decide to switch to the newer device and apple can rent out your older device at a lower rate and probably keep the devices in circulation for 3 or 4 generations. Constant stream of income for apple.. cheaper for consumers.. less waste.

Unless they had a way for the magnets to disengage like the ones on the Surface Book.. that would be cool

That looks like a molten SCART plug. Is going from tiny Lightining and USB-C plugs to this really progress though? Furthermore, what happens to third party phone cases and, in case they are even allowed to utilize this tech as well, will it increase costs of a case substantially?

I have a great idea: you connect a cable to the phone via a small hole in the phone and that cable is connected to the wall which delivers electricity over the cable at rates much faster than this supposed wireless charging. It’s an incredible invention let me tell you. I call it a “plug”.
Why don’t we connect the other end of the cord to a box with a hand crank. We could call this invention a “generator”. Or we could just live in the 21st century and have innovation 🤷‍♂️😂

First of all, to anyone saying that this is wireless charging, it’s not. Apple is not calling it that, and you know it. You’re just trying to be obnoxious. also, obviously it’s not like the original MagSafe. Apple has re-purposed names before, (iBook the laptop vs iBooks the Ebooks store anyone?)
And, Apple will be removing the port. I don’t know if it will be in 2021, that’s what all the leaks say, but to me that does seem slightly too soon.
However, next year‘s iPhones do seem kind of boring. I mean, it’s going to be extremely hard to build much hype when the only real things that are going to be changing are a 120 Hz screen and an A15 chip, so doing something bold like removing the charging port might be smart to create some type of story. I mean, they basically did that with the iPhone 7. The iPhone 7 was a relatively small upgrade, but it got tons and tons of media attention, mainly for the removal of the headphone jack. I remember seeing actual late night news reports about the removal of the headphone jack.
So, imagine the absolute fury when people realize that the charger port is removed. All publicity is good publicity, and this would create tons of it.
As I said, realistically it seems too soon, but Apple has done a lot of things I thought seemed way too soon at the time. I mean, the 2015 MacBook only having one USB seaport seemed way too early, but they did it anyway. and a lot of rumors are pointing that way.

Thieves can easily steal the mobile with the powerful magnet 😁 can’t understand certain decisions of Apple, removing cute & useful MagSafe adapters in Mac while coming up with phone sized magnetic chargers for mobiles😇

2020 October event: Introducing the revolutonary wireless charger. Just starting from $399, available early 2021.
2021 Spring, Kuo Minchi says: the release date will be postponed.
2021 Summer, Jon Prosser says: the release date is still under discussion.
2021 August, Bloomberg briefs: some technical issue remains, which may delay the mass production.
2021 Fall, some reliable source: Apple might delay this product without any precise dealine.
2021 November, Kuo Minchi announces, mass production has been started.
.........
2021 December: after deep concern we have to cancel this product. We are perfectionist. we will not bring the unperfect product to the market.

Apple will probably make an adapter of their own. Charge 19 bucks for it, and boom. Problem solved.
That’s how they solve the single port on the 12 inch MacBook problem five years ago, and people said that was too soon.
That’s how they solve the headphone jack problem in 2016, and people said that was too soon.
Trust me, a Portless iPhone is coming sooner than you would think. Apple has been slowly building towards it. In fact, they already have three “kind of” portless products already, the Apple Watch, the HomePod, and the Apple TV 4K.
The Apple Watch doesn’t have any external ports. It has one port inside for maintenance purposes, that only Apple technicians can access.
The HomePod only has a power cord. That’s why there’s been problems in the past with homepods bricking, and people having to have the entire thing replaced.
As for the Apple TV, the fourth GEN Apple TV HD had a USBCport for maintenance purposes. You could use it to reinstall the operating system, or something like that.
The 4K has a USBC port, but you can only access it by opening the thing up.
Also, another hint that a portless iPhone could be coming sooner than you think?
That would completely eliminate any need to connect your iPhone to your computer. Also, in iOS 12 they added the feature to connect two iPhones together to restore one from the other, completely eliminating the need for any iTunes back ups. Plus now they have iCloud.
So yeah, apples been making the path, you just haven’t been following it. The portless iPhone is on its way.

This is one case of innovating for the hell of changing something and I hate how this is called wireless in general. So now you „clip“ your phone to a charger instead of just plugging it in besides being also slower and more inconvenient.

try charging it in a bag, not sure how strong those magnets r but it would potentially fall off and it’s also so much slower and not as Great to use the phone while charging.

Come again?
Apple has been using magnets in iPads since 2011, and I’ve never heard it causing an increase in magnet related thievery .
Also, with things like face ID, touch ID, activation lock, and the U1 chip and Find My, stealing an iPhone is becoming harder and harder and harder every single year.
You can come take it out of my hands, but it’s not gonna do you much use

The guy coming up with the idea of putting coils and magnets inside the phone instead of bigger batteries for a fancy wireless charging should be vigorously beaten with a baker's shovel.
actually, this does have several benefits.
Removing the lightning port would make the waterproofing of an iPhone much, much easier, And much more effective.
Having no ribbons or big holes in the phone free up room for more hardware.
It’s a lot harder to hack an iPhone that you can’t plug-in and swipe data off of. Remember things like gray key, and all those things that the government was trying to use to get into peoples iPhones? All of them required it to be hooked via lightning port. Well, that’s not very effective if there is no lightning port.

I have cheap 3-in-1 version [iPhone-AW-APP] wireless charger, I think I'll get Satechi Trio Wireless Charging Pad.

So much bets on the table even before the announcement. Totallee has already selling their iPhone 12 cases for the past few days, and now this charger from MPOW. With this trend, I won't be surprised if Vivo or Xiomi announces their phones as iPhones well before Apple's announcement (they are already copying Apple's design cues, that's a different story)
