Does anyone know if this is an mfi issue? Or if any of the other supplies were equipped with it?
You might have great sense of smell. It's as if someone at Apple was thinking "how can we make more money from an established existing standard like Qi wireless..."

I agree this product isn’t the second coming of Christ or anything, but it’s certainly getting a lot more hate than I think is necessary. I mean, I’m a big fan of qi charging because fiddling around with the cable is just that tiny little bit of effort I didn’t realise bothered me until I stopped having to do it. But more importantly, I am sick of the much bigger inconvenience that qi brings - not being able to use my phone when it’s on 1% and needs to charge. Unless I hold the qi charger to the phone in a very awkward and uncomfortable fashion.

so MagSafe addresses both of those by effortlessly connecting to the phone but also allowing me to use it while charging.

and the biggest issue of all and the main reason I ended up with qi on my X is that I use my phone as my main streaming device to my TV via lighting to hdmi because the wireless streaming sucks. But you can’t run that while charging the phone (same with using wired earphones) while it’s charging. So for me QI is a must and MagSafe is a better option still.

BUT. Why on earth would they choose THIS update to stop including power adapters?!? Money and only money. No environmental savings will be had because everyone does hava a brick it’s true, but everyone’s brick is old USB 1.0 and 5watts and everyone needs to buy a new one now.. and they obviously knew that.

Anyone feels like this is a rip off?
Absolutely, I mean it’s not a blatant lie, but the general understanding is that if you have a USB-C brick or port it should work up to the max wattage of the lowest wattage component in the power line. In other words, so long as the USB-C port/brick you plug the MagSafe charger into is greater than 15 watts, it should charge at that wattage.

That it doesn’t just blows my mind. Like seriously, a 60+ watt MacBook Pro charger only charges up to 10 watts??

And if Apple knows that the 20 watt charger is required to obtain rated speeds, then they sure as heck should have included the 20 watt brick, even if it meant raising the price to say $50 for charger and brick in one package.

I am a pretty generous Apple fan, and even I find this a most cringy sales tactic.

  • Apple removed the charger from the box
  • Apple claims this was all for environmental reasons
  • Apple did not drop the price to match the cost savings to Apple
  • Apple introduces MagSafe wireless charging
  • Apple ensures MagSafe only works full speed if you run out and buy its new, specific charger
  • Apple is a lying liar.

Apple is a ***** liar.

Well unless you have an iPhone 12 it’s not going to perform anything like a standard Qi charger and given the cable is 3ft long, I’m not sure how well you will be able to use it?

You have to admit this is a little funny. This idea of "wireless charging" still involves manually attaching a cable to the phone, accepting a lower rate of charge (and one that is certainly not better for the environment), and then physically detaching the cable from the phone. I fail to see how the mechanics are all that different from simply plugging in the Lightning cable, other than utilizing magnets instead of friction, and employing another proprietary system necessitating additional purchases only now when the cable wears and fails you need to buy another $39 cord (with the inductive charger attached). LOLz.

Th environment thanks you Apple.

Most companies aren’t doing enough for the environment. And our consumerism must have a new device every year behavior is a big cause of that. While Apple does better than most, it’s us that really needs to change. I include me in that - as an iUPer.

Apple put special controller so only their charger can put 15W, mind boggling, the more powerful 60W/100W MacBook chargers aren't allowed !!

So we know reason for actual charging removal, right? Curious what apologist will wholeheartedly says defended Apple.
And the worst thing is many people defending apple’s decision on this. This decision is based on greed. Not including charger, limiting even a macbook pro’s charger to charge slow using iPhone’s magsafe. No wonder we are called sheeples by many android boys.

If they are thinking about environment and customer protection, they should include the 20 watt charger this year and skip the charger next year. The old iphone owners 11, xs and below only have 5 watt charger. The newer 11 pro guys only have 18 watt charger. And now it needs the new 20 watt charger to maximize the charging capability. That doesn’t make any sense.

they should’ve included the 20 watt charger to the iphone 11 pro guys last year if they care about environment. To me, this is a business strategy based on pure greed.

Tim Cook is doing something right... Apple is making billions upon billions. You don’t get that with less.
The old and tired cliché of 'laughing all the way to the bank' is so overdone. Tim is great at raising the value of Apple stock at the expense of screwing the customer. In the earlier days of Apple, you would pay a lot, but you would receive a lot in return.

While I do enjoy my Apple devices I’ve never been a fan of koolaid. Grapefruit juice (with no added sugar) please :). Yes I drink it proudly. Lol

I won’t be using MagSafe to charge my iPhone 12 Pro Max when I get it anyway.I rarely need fast charging as I always charge overnight whilst I sleep. So I shall carry on charging my normal way with a standard Qi wireless charger at 7.5w.
I also charge my phone overnight, I am not even going to bother with wireless charging. The little 5w USB adapter will be sufficient. (Spurs!!)

Then why do you continue to support them with your currency? Simply choose another brand so that hurt will go away. Easy.

If another brand like samsung makes smartphones with iOS with their current tech which are high refresh rate screen, reverse charging, big battery etc, I would gladly move to another brand. The problem is I much prefer iOS and its ecosystem, it’s hard to just move to another brand.

I understand 3rd party chargers charging slow but for Apple's own Macbook chargers to not deliver 15W? That's just ridiculous and a huge slap to the face to its customers. If the fancy schmancy PD technology puts it to 10W anyways, I'm just gonna use my extra Macbook Air charger to connect to MagSafe. I really wanted to believe its whole carbon footprint environment claim, but Apple can f*** themselves here.

I’ve never seen this much controversy towards an Apple product since.... iPhone 5c maybe

but then they kinda stuffed this product up in general, it has potential but there needs to be far more improvement for something like this to truly replace lightning IMO, thank god the lightning port is still there

Is it true the iPhone battery will be damaged if charged with the 61W USB-C Power Adapter every day?

We are only on page 9. I remember people laughing about the iPad and the watch. People love to criticize Apple and tell Tim Cook how terrible he is doing. :)

I think it makes them feel better or something.

The iPhone will only draw what it needs from the power adapter regardless of wattage supplied. While slow charging does extend the life of the battery, in a 2-3 year range it shouldn’t have a huge effect.

Not really. The first GEN iPod touch came out in September 2007 for $299. In January 2008, they released a software update that cost $19.99. In July 2008, they released another software update that cost $9.95. In June 2009, they released another $9.95 update. So even though the iPod was initially only $299, it costed an extra $39 to keep the thing up-to-date.
