I’m an Apple fanboy at the worst of times. I buy all the stuff they release and love using it. I just got the iPhone 12 pro. Wife has an X. We have iPads and IPods and MacBooks and and more **** than we probably need. And it’s honestly a joy owning all of it.
but when Apple does this, it’s quite disheartening and takes away from the brand. Saving the environment talk is looking stupid as hell right now.

Dont forget supply a cable in the box none with an older iphone charger can use. Apple does nothing without thinking it through... it shows all about the mindset of apple.. cheats.
Atleast iphone owners can not say they did not get usb c type this year.

While i agree with your frustrating if you want 15w fast charging going forward then you will need this so if they do remove the port i do worry that unless one has MagSafe with 20w power brick people are going to charging their phones too slowly certainly for when somebody needs a fast charge.

I can always re-buy the puck if/when they sort things out. I honestly didn't care so much about fast charging. I wanted it for bedside overnight charging. I liked the idea of it holding itself perfectly centered on the charge puck as I used to notice my iPhone X get hot sometimes on the qi charger and thought maybe it was due to not being in perfect alignment. I'll see how things go on the 12 with my old qi charger.

Seeing that the new pucks aren't really backwards compatible and require only Apple charging bricks even when others have enough Watts just isn't a good start to this new product. Gonna sit out for now and take a wait and see attitude.

Apple didn't remove the charger to save the environment, instead they removed it to line their shareholders pockets with even more money!

The iPhone costs $29 more than previous year model (discounted by the carrier by $29....so you are paying more if you buy it outright from Apple lol). One should really be buying the iPhone every 3 years now...other 2 years, buy Apple Stock with that money.

This year iPhone has gone up $29+$19 for charging block + $19 if you really want the EarPods (they were FREE before)....so Apple quietly increased cost by $67USD.....

Even this ‘15 watts’ isn’t what it seems. Looking at the earlier review on MR from the WSJ, it looks like only about 10 watts is reaching the battery. So the MagSafe takes twice as long to charge as directly plugging into the cable and wastes a third of the energy (higher costs to your wallet and the planet). And that’s in this best scenario offered by the 20w charger.

Aren’t all wireless chargers wasting 30-40% of their energy? Vs wired that is.

To be honest wireless charging is a scam. We all need to admit it and move on. Its just not as useful as people though it would be.
That's one of the dumbest comments I have seen on this forum. How is wireless charging dumb? Or even worse how is it a scam? I have a $12 cheapo desktop wireless charger from Amazon that I use on my nightstand to charge my iPhones. I've been using the same charger since the iPhone X made its debut. Its stupid easy to use. I put my phone on the stand as I'm going to sleep. I wake up at 4:00am and the phones are always fully charged.

So tell me how is that stupid or even worse, how is that a scam?????

Maybe the phone was hot. In the review above the reviewer says it lowers the power when it senses the phone getting hot. BRILLIANT!

The small depressing feeling that I'm probably buying an iPhone the year before they go portless is evaporating with each new article about the wireless charging dumpster fire. The years-old cables and chargers I use at home and at work are just fine. It's the saving grace around Apple sticking to Lightning.

Apple seems to have ironically trashed the environment this time around, not save it. All the extra packaging, paperwork, and materials used for the MagSafe pucks... and almost no one has the right charger that Apple claims most of us already have. Add in all the returns of the MagSafe pucks, and it’s even more of an environmental punch in the gut.

That supposed VP of environmental blabla, giving us her speech from on top of the roof of the Apple Campus, was full of crap.

I have a drawer full of cables and chargers. Time I start looking for someone that could use them!

There are so many wrong assumptions with this statement. LOL.

Many of us have the right chargers. Most won’t be returning this. And yes, just existing is bad for the environment.

The packaging is paper. It’s recyclable.

Apple might be slightly better with the unique MagSafe design, I also edited my post
My wife and I had an order for mail delivery - estimated November 10 delivery. Cancelled that. Found I could order for in store pickup this Wednesday.

After years of using 5w Anker chargers, I'm looking forward to this. :)

MagSafe charger is more of a gimmick. Total rip off from Apple to not include a charger...the earphones I understand, majority wants bluetooth, but the charger everyone needs one! Anker products are awesome they surpass Apple quality IMHO.
