Do you guys think the little dash on the bottom of the circle in this mount will really act like a magnet as it is supposed to?

Been using the ESR Halolock Dash mount with my 12PM. It lacks that little line under the circular magnet. It's really shaky and that annoys me a great deal.

If you're talking about the positioning / orientation magnet on the cheap, generic units on Amazon and AliExpress, you won't know unless you get one and peel the rubber / silicon over it or just put another magnet or piece of metal against it.

As for Belkin and other premium brands, I'm sure there's a magnet in there.

I canceled my order. I seriously doubt that thing has a real positioning magnet.

I wish Belkin made a dash version of their vent mount.

The ESR shakes a great deal. Why they didn’t include the position magnet, I don’t know.

I know of no other proper magnet dash solutions on the market now that incorporates MagSafe. It’s really frustrating. Guess I’ll just wait for a legit company to offer one.

Only one I've seen with "proper" magsafe and a positioning magnet is the Turing mount which uses (supplied by user) the actual Apple Magsafe charger:

It has an AMPS mounting pattern on the back so you can mount it however you like.

Don’t want something that requires an actual MagSafe charger. I have a car charger and usb-c cable for fast charging. Just need a proper dash MagSafe mount.

I might get the iOttie Easy One Touch 5 to hold me over.

I thought the Belkin has a standard 17mm ball or ball socket? If it does, that opens up a whole world of dash mounts it'll work with...

I could be wrong. I thought it didn’t?

TBH if I like the iOttie I think I’m all set. Not sure what the advantage of any MagSafe dash mount would be other than not having to press something to release the iPhone to remove it, which doesn’t strike me as super cumbersome.

I bought this one. the front magnet works perfect for my iP12 pro with apple leather case. snug and doesn't move while driving. the bad is the puck doesn't stick to the current magnet in the back. when I remove my phone, the puck stays on the back. this company makes another type that I may try but just saw they increased the price overnight.

I prefer this type being I don't need wireless charging due to carplay. I also don't want a vent clip. I like the minimal look.

I got charging animation!
I tried on brick charger (Anker Nano 18w) with Samsung S20 usb-c cable, it worked
I tried on usb-c computer/laptop, it did not show the animation

So i am looking a for a cig lighter charger, does anyone know if a 24w cig lighter would be powerful enough?
I assume i need PD usb-c port aswell?

Thanks

I think I'm going to settle on the iOttie Easy Touch 5. The feet are bizarrely too close together and can't be adjusted width-wise for some reason. But other than that, it appears to be an excellent dash mount choice. I do wish however it had a longer telescopic arm but I can't seem to find anything on the market that is longer.

The ESR Halolock is really nice but the lack of a position magnet on the bottom really hurts it IMO. My setup is to have the telescopic arm fully extended and in this position the unit constantly shakes as I'm driving with my 12PM and MagSafe case. Super distracting and annoying.

Little feedback here:
I started with one of first unofficial Magsafe car mount sold on Aliexpress/Ebay (be aware, some brands would sell this generic product as premium price, its barely around 20 bucks)

First Magsafe car mount

  • Rectangular credit card shape design (about same width as iPhone 12 Mini), back and side in aluminium, on the bottom side, there is a blue LED for charging
  • Crap vent mount, its shaky, unstable vent fixation, its constantly bent at the back
  • Strongest magnets there, it tried to shake support+iPhone on my bed, no matter of much power i would use, it holds like a glue
  • Despite of crappy vent mount, it holds my phone pretty well (note even with some bumpds, it doesnt move)
  • You can remove the entire ball mount and tweak it as Magsafe charger, thats what i ve done

Second Magsafe car mount

  • Same shape (rectangular, credit card...) but thicker. Full of plastic
  • Great vent mount with adjustable hook through a sort of wheel, longer mount fixation, so its little more extended, the support+iPhone will not touch air vents/dashboard
  • The support itself has weaker magnets than previous model, i dont know why, i tried to shake both of them, this one fell off after several hard shaking (if i shook normally, it wont)
  • It holds also pretty well

To sum up, first model has stronger magnets and looks little more premium (because of alumium) but also crappier vent mount
Second model is more balanced, weaker magnets but its still strong enough with decent vent mount
I recommend to not buy car holder with first vent mount system, its really crap

This one looks similar to my first model BUT i dont think so its identical, read comments/feedback, its poorly made
(first model only comes in silver/white, this one comes with many other color such as black, orange etc...)

Maybe should i use first model and put some 3M tape on it or using suction mount

Finally got my ESR magnetic mount and I am pleased with it. Holds my 12 Pro Max easily with no rotation. Pro Max has apple clear case on it.

Where did you get it from? I notice these are on AliExpress, but I assumed they were fake due to how cheap they are compared to Amazon and their official website.

I used a discount code provided by lyceumHQ so got it for $25.99. Stable and charges phone.

Anyone tried if Belkin Pro magsafe works in an Audi 2020- ? The vents placement make it tight🤔?
