I’ve noticed that. If the phone goes into the case to fast, the phone doesn’t respond but, if two corners go in first, pause then the next two then it does trigger. It certainly feels like it needs perfecting a bit more!

I went to the Apple Store and got a new Kumquat Silicone case and this one works perfectly. I think mine was defective or the MagSafe charger killed it. I say this because the navy hasn't been used with the MagSafe charger and the kumquat was working fine until yesterday. Also returned the MagSafe charger at the Apple Store. I don't see its convenience and my ANKER Qi chargers works just fine.

Something to consider when swapping cases as well that are MagSafe compatible even if you’re not using the MagSafe charger.
I didn’t really thought of that... the magnetic picking up metal particles. I have my MBA and a piece of staple got stuck in the MagSafe plug on the laptop, and I couldn’t not take it out with a tweezers or anything because the magnetic is pulling it in so strong, so he makes a good point about the magnetic on the phone.

makes me think this is the reason apple leather cases haven't been released yet.
I’ve been using the MagSafe puck and 20W adapter for overnight charging of my iPhone X in its Product Red leather case for 3 days for a total of 21 hours so far and no evidence of any discoloration.

Not the same thing as it doesn’t have magnets and it’s only providing 3W of draw, but it does get rather warm so thought I’d put that out there.

Using MagSafe daily since 10/23: no marks on black 12P Apple silicone case.

Same here. Product Red with no marks and used with MagSafe from the 23rd.

I don’t think the charger is leaving the marks rather than some cases magnets are slightly raised which means they wear, pickup marks when placed on any surface etc. Like pencil rubbing on texture surfaces. Better QC is needed to stop them from entering the sales chain.

I’d imagine if every case did this we would be buried under threads about it given most people buy cases for their phones... i.e. millions of people.

Edit. Just to say the MagSafe charger makes contact with the phone only with the soft silicon white centre (solid round circle) and not the metal ring. Therefore, if it was the charger making the mark, it would be a round solid circle mark and not the round outline and small straight line shapes like we see on the clear case.

I have been using a kumquat silicone case the last few days with the MagSafe charger overnight and so far I have no ring marks.

Just did my first overnight charge with my MagSafe charger and the case is already showing a ring. Has been totally clean since launch day, but I haven’t used the MagSafe much till now.

So if you don't have a MagSafe case the charger still works like any wireless charger? And charges at 15W with the 20w brick?

Is that the silicone case or a leather one?

Just charged on MagSafe for the fist time with the ringke Onyx case on my phone and it’s left a mark as well.

My guess is it’s the heat is causing it to discolour. My Nokia wireless charger hasn‘t left any mark all week.

God this thing really is a disaster, hopefully it goes the way of 3D Touch before long
