White hides scratches best.White ring = magnets in the case...
I remember when the black iPhone 5 chipped around the edges, I returned mine for white and I thought at the time, how did that get through the quality meetings?
Sort of expected this but I can’t imagine how bad this will look in a few months

I don't think the issue is related to the length of time the charger sticks to the back of the phone, but the actual number of times the charger makes contact with the phone.Charged my 12 Pro with blue silicon case overnight. No marking at all from the MagSafe charger. Will see how it goes after a few more.
More than likely, the back of the phone will get scratched or have possible burn impression.no case = no problem?
i wonder if there will be any issues if the phone is magsafed without a case...
That’s a useful observation and could be absolutely right. If it’s the ring in between the case that is causing the problem then that could be fixable by Apple if they revise the design of the casesSo many posts assuming the marks are caused by the aluminum ring, with no further questioning.
That's how a rumor starts.
Well, I decided to check a bit on this. Put my iPhone 12 on the MagSafe chager and looked at them from the side, with a source of light behind the two (in my case, my computer monitor).
It is CLEARLY visible that the case DO NOT TOUCH the aluminum ring. It site on the silicone white ring on the middle of the charger, but between the aluminum ring and the case there is a clear gal through wich the ligh from my monitor clearly passes.
So, maybe those marks are due to the ring inside the case, between the silicone on the outside and the felt lining on the inside?
One thin for me is clear: it is not caused by the metal ring as it never touches the case.
Agreed! I haven't tried mines yet... but if I read that this is a issue, then I will return... On the bright side, at least we can fast charging with the cable tho...After reading about all the issues with the MagSafe charger, I just cancelled my order and will wait for Apple's engineers going back to the drawing board and creating a v2.0. I guess it's back to charging with a cable for now, maybe some third-party will release a better MagSafe charger clone in the near future (or are there patent issues and only Apple will produce MagSafe chargers?).
It does amaze me we see little things like this that you’d think would be picked up upon in basic testing. I remember when the black iPhone 5 chipped around the edges, I returned mine for white and I thought at the time, how did that get through the quality meetings?
Well to be fair, many people visit this site but may not feel like going to the bother of registering and posting until they have a problem. Why do I feel this was posted just to hurt sales of the new MagSafe chargers... this user has only just joined macrumors and immediately posts this photo, which could have been caused by pressing the MagSafe into the back of the case and twisting it... has anyone else had this issue with pics?
Combination of heat and magnet I wouldn’t be surprised. I wouldn’t call that normal after 30 minutes but, I am just a forum member. There are outlines of the magnets on the back of the silicone case. I’ve used the MagSafe charger once for maybe 30mins. Is this normal?

If that’s what happens after just 30 minutes, I wonder what it would be like after a month of daily use. I would imagine that if there was significant discolouration on the case after a few weeks then you would have a good reason to send it back to Apple for replacementThere are outlines of the magnets on the back of the silicone case.
