Charged my 12 Pro with blue silicon case overnight. No marking at all from the MagSafe charger. Will see how it goes after a few more.
I don't think the issue is related to the length of time the charger sticks to the back of the phone, but the actual number of times the charger makes contact with the phone.

We may have a better idea after a few weeks/months of attaching the MagSafe charger to the iPhone 12...

So many posts assuming the marks are caused by the aluminum ring, with no further questioning.
That's how a rumor starts.
Well, I decided to check a bit on this. Put my iPhone 12 on the MagSafe chager and looked at them from the side, with a source of light behind the two (in my case, my computer monitor).
It is CLEARLY visible that the case DO NOT TOUCH the aluminum ring. It site on the silicone white ring on the middle of the charger, but between the aluminum ring and the case there is a clear gal through wich the ligh from my monitor clearly passes.
So, maybe those marks are due to the ring inside the case, between the silicone on the outside and the felt lining on the inside?
One thin for me is clear: it is not caused by the metal ring as it never touches the case.

After reading about all the issues with the MagSafe charger, I just cancelled my order and will wait for Apple's engineers going back to the drawing board and creating a v2.0. I guess it's back to charging with a cable for now, maybe some third-party will release a better MagSafe charger clone in the near future (or are there patent issues and only Apple will produce MagSafe chargers?).

That’s a useful observation and could be absolutely right. If it’s the ring in between the case that is causing the problem then that could be fixable by Apple if they revise the design of the cases

Agreed! I haven't tried mines yet... but if I read that this is a issue, then I will return... On the bright side, at least we can fast charging with the cable tho...

I thought the whole idea of cases were to protect the phone from being scratched or my case, to protect the edge when dropped. I'm also guessing there will be many cases out there for half the cost or less than $49. On past phones and cases, I seen grit scratch the sides of cases.

For the first time ever, I bought an Apple case for my new 10 and it did a good job protecting the phone but it was a real chore removing the phone from it because it was tighter than tight which was a problem traveling out of the country and playing SIM card roulette.

No marks on my Product Red case. But as I posted elsewhere I ended up LOSING charge on it. Almost 40%. I wonder if I have a defective MagSafe charger.

Why do I feel this was posted just to hurt sales of the new MagSafe chargers... this user has only just joined macrumors and immediately posts this photo, which could have been caused by pressing the MagSafe into the back of the case and twisting it... has anyone else had this issue with pics?

Well to be fair, many people visit this site but may not feel like going to the bother of registering and posting until they have a problem.

It’s possible they do have a real problem. I once bought a purple silicone case for my iPhone X. I had to give up that phone due to having issues with the screen hurting my eyes with pwm flicker.

So I had the phone itself only a month (around Christmas so I had an extended trial time with it). I got the case for Christmas and had it on my phone for only one day and it somehow got nasty looking streaks and stains on it. I don’t know how. I didn’t get it wet or spill anything. I could not clean those off. I had to guess it was from hand lotion I was using that winter. But none of my other silicone cases for my older phones had that problem. It was just this one case. And I haven’t run across that problem ever again, not even with a purple case I bought for the iPhone 8 Plus I got to replace the iPhone X.

There’s always an outlier and when there’s a new product, it isn’t unreasonable that someone encountering a problem might wonder if they are having a one time issue or if it’s part of a larger problem. They can’t know until they ask around.

The rest of us just need to stay calm and see what kind of feedback rolls in.

I certainly don’t want anyone freaking out about the MagSafe just because I had a problem with it the first night. I will try it again when my phone is finished indexing and all that other heat producing, power consuming new phone stuff. But I do think I’ve heard enough to know it’s not going to be the fastest most efficient way to charge my new iPhone.

There are outlines of the magnets on the back of the silicone case. I’ve used the MagSafe charger once for maybe 30mins. Is this normal?

If that’s what happens after just 30 minutes, I wonder what it would be like after a month of daily use. I would imagine that if there was significant discolouration on the case after a few weeks then you would have a good reason to send it back to Apple for replacement

That’s not good at all... I was really psyched about the MagSafe Duo but at this point I am thinking of giving it a miss... seems there are too many issues with that form of charging for it to be worth it at the moment.

I have got a MagSafe Silicon case but for £49 for it to look like that after 30 mins just isn’t worth the risk... did you see those marks before using the MagSafe or did it just appear afterwards?
